Scrimmage Views

An NFL scout attended recent scrimmages at USC and UCLA and found some similarities, particularly in the secondary.
``They’re very similar, I didn’t see much difference,’’ the scout said. ``UCLA held their own.’’
But the scout admitted being impressed with the speed of USC’s front seven.
``That’s where they were impressive,’’ the scout said. ``They’re extremely fast, especially with (Rey) Maualuga and (Brian) Cushing.’’

VEGAS baby!

Just got back from vacation in Syn City. As of yesterday the odds are USC by 8 over Arkie. Odds that the Hogs' Coach Nutt will go bi-polar are 1-1. The Hogs' star RB McFadden is still recovering from that vicious attack on his injured big toe so he's not playing. His pinky finger is said to be okay though. This game looks so fun I might have to fly out there just to eat, drink and be merry with Troy.

ESPN's analysts predict SC will go 12-0. Then again they think that Texas will beat Ohio St with a freshman QB so what the hell do they know.

Don't ever under-estimate our man Pete. To put The Mauler and The Crusher at DE is genius.

I attended the scrimmage sun..night.and if the defense can remain healthy.they should dominate and carry the team.by causing t.o's and securing good field position..my only concern is the first team offense had their hands full with the second team.not sure if thats a bad or good thing?

I suggest that there is one difference between the SC and ucla secondaries: SC won't have to try to cover Jarret, Smith, Turner, Hazelton, Patterson, etc.

well that nfl scout must be the same scout the texans use. UCLA secondary is some much similiar that they had to move running backs to the secondary because of lack of depth and speed while S.C moved a five star safety to running back because of the depth we have in the secondary. Scott please tell me that ur making this up, if not what's the best way for me to become a scout?

I think thats the difference with USC and most other teams, team speed, teams just can't practice for the amount of team speed that USC has had the past four years and I think it might be a fair assumption that the same team speed story will hold true this season.

Yeah, I, too, look forward to young, inexperienced coverted tailbacks covering Jarrett, Smith, McCoy, Hazelton and the rest of the fellas. ... That is a crazy-good matchup for the Good Guys.

Saying that the USC secondary is "similar" to UCLA with two future NFL players, Taylor Mays and Antwine Perez is like saying the UCLA Cheerleaders/Dancing Girls are "similar" to the USC Song Girls.

Yea, and speed kills.....(the other guys).

Fight On!

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
