Ground Carroll
This is not a quick-strike offense apparently.
``We never really showed our big-play ability,’’ USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``It was something we were looking for. I think we’re a little different. Balls are not getting downfield as fast as it has.’’
Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin said sometimes things were a little conservative on first down because the offense struggled.
``Sometimes a game goes that way and you want to move the ball on first down because you don't want second-and-10 or second-and-11 because you're not playing that great.''

Because youre not playing that great, now that is a vast understatement
Kiffin is to blame!!!
He is trying to indirectly blame the players. "The game is not going the way we expected."
Thats because your crappy play-calling has put us in lots of compromising circumstances.
USC's "usual sluggish start" can be attributed to you Kiffin. It happened lots of times last year (Oregon, ASU, ND, UT). These were the only ones I recall vividly.
Anyhow, the point is that even with all-world players like Bush, Leinart, White, Byrd, Kirtman, and Justice and Deuce on the O-line....Kiffin still wasn't very good.
It was the talent of these players that made certain plays work, or made something out of nothing. The current players are not at that point yet, but calling crappy plays for 1+ years now is going to cost us a game or two.
Be careful about betting this year boyz! Kiffin might make you lose a lot of cheddar. My homie lost $500 last night because of "USC's pathetic offense" (these were his words).
Who is going to get a website started to fire Lane Kiffin????
"calling crappy plays for 1+ years now is going to cost us a game or two."
It's not costing "me" or "us" or any real Trojan fans a game or two. If we lose, we lose. It's only gonna affect you, John, and your ignorant, scrub, player-wannabe homies.
and replace him with who? Here's a new rule - when you suggest we fire Kiffin ( who'll I'd admit struggles at times but is young) name a replacement that won't come in here and try to redo USC's entire O. An O which btw has the still going NCAA record for consecutive 20+ pt games. I can't think of anyone
I think to many fans are expecting the team to, immediately, be the team of last year. Impossible, without some sort of learning curve. They are still searching for the best, of the new, young players to fill the hugh void left by; let's see...2 Heisman trophy winners and a dozen other experienced greats. Yeah, it's all Kiffin's fault! Shame on him he hasn't gotten it together. After all it's been a month.
I agree that the play calling (perhaps due to Kiffin) is poor. Frankly, watching last night's game, you can see that Arizona seemed to ALWAYS know what we were going to do. Receivers were covered, and double covered. We need more creativity. A few more long balls - even if they fall incomplete, would mix it up a little bit more. Receivers need to try a little harder. Nevertheless, the continuing loss of fullbacks has to affect the running game, maybe destroying Kiffin's confidence in the ability to carry out plays. BUT, if Kiffin can't perform, he should be treated no differently than a player who fails to perform - TO THE SIDELINES.
I want to play against Kiffin on XBOX.
Right...because Xbox is pretty much identical to real life. I really like when you lose your 3 starting FBs in the first 3 games. So realistic.
I am getting sick of Pete Caroll indirectly being a critic of the offense..If he doesn't like it great use your position and have some input on the calls which could be much better.
