Hey, This Isn't Easy
USC coach Pete Carroll offered an obvious but simple point after the game.
``It's hard to be 4-0,'' he said.
Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin pointed out that USC's gone undefeated in the regular season the other two times it started 4-0 under Carroll. And 1-1 in bowl games, for those keeping score.

FIRE LAME KIFFIN!!!
What a deplorable exhibit by our superb and superior athletes on offense against a weak Wazzou D.
Glad I didn't bet on this ballgame, nor will I ever bet on a point spread above 10 for SC this season. Lame just sucks!
Although, when the line goes up for the game with the gutty little Bruins, we know that EVERYONE has to jump with that. Dorrell can't compete with Pete, and Lame Kiffin can't compete with the HS coaches at Santa Ana Mater Dei and Oaks Christian!
Weak offensive display due to Lame! BTW, what the hell is wrong with the D-Line? Looks like last year again, and that means Troy Smith will destroy us in Glendale, AZ for the title!
First I agree that the D last night reminded me of 2005 and allowing other teams to march at will donw the field. And just like in typical 2005 fashion SC would give up in the 20's.
As for the betting ATS, I could care less about the spread and those who bet, if you bet, youre an idiot in the first place and if SC can't cover thats all your problem and doesn't make someone else an idiot. I suppose PC is an idiot for taking a knee against NU and not covering.
John Redcorn,
I know how you feel. I'm nervous about the Trojans, too. But this time I don't feel our problems were on the offensive side of the ball.
This time our defense was the major weak link. At times I felt like this was the Texas game all over again.
If we can't stop the pass, we're not going to win the Pac... especially when we play Oregon and Cal.
True, it's tough to be 4-0, but surely Coach Pete understands that's the expectation here at USC. However, I am not so sure our Trojans are quite ready for that tough 3 game stretch later on against Oregon, Notre Dame and Cal. Hopefully, we can use our next 4 games (Wash, ASU, OSU & Stanford) to build some momentum to get our young team battle tested to handle the tough 3 game stretch that will either make us or break us. Those are the games legends are made from. If our boys can come out of there unscathed at 11-0, they will have a good chance of returning to the BCS Championship game. Only thing left to do prior to that is to administer their annual crosstown spanking of UCLA.
This USC team will NOT go undefeated. No way, no how. Every aspect of this team is overrated.
Redcom's comments are laughable. USC is 4-0 and Kiffen's job is secure. There are many games to be played before anyone should start talking about Glendale. Were there some questionable calls? Sure. Was I a little concerned watching the game? Of course. But those games happen and our team will grow because of them. There are a lot more lessons to be learned from close games than those blowouts by the Trojans that everyone seems to expect.
There is a time for disobediance by USC fans. (See Paul Hackett years). Now is not the time. Show some loyalty and do us all a favor and stop talking about your betting or lack thereof. No one cares.
eftzoons, miguelito or whatever your name is... talk about overrated. fUCLA was picked 8th in the Pac Ten and they ARE overrated. 9th looks about right, with Stanford just slightly worse at 10th. fUCLA SUCKS, now go away ! This blog is for the Trojan Nation. (Wolfie's comments and AP vote not withstanding)
Kiffin cannot help us stop the pass - our young DBs have to turn their heads when the ball is in the air and make plays - or at least avoid the multiple PIs they gave up. Meanwhile, our D-line is not getting to the opposing QBs enough.
What LK and coach Ruehl can try to figure out and improve is the run-blocking. I know the RBs are young, but its not just them - I gotta believe we're just not blowing people off the line like in the past, and I'm not sure why.
And while the pass blocking seems decent, why is Booty having so many passes batted down? Is it his motion, or is it the blockers not keeping their guys out far enough or engaging their hands (legally!) to keep those throwing lanes clear? Hopefully they can figure it out soon...
It is cliche, but dominating both lines is where it all begins, and I don't feel nearly as good about these two groups as I did in the past. In '03 & '04 both lines were great for us, in '05 we had the O-line, but now we are merely 'good' on both sides - not great, yet. I say yet because I have faith in this staff that it can be corrected & improved as the season progresses.
We deserve a decent ranking going 4-0 with a non-conf schedule that is vastly superior to most teams. Its still early to see where all the best teams stand, and we're okay so far. Not great, but decent. I know PC and crew will not rest until they can honestly say its all perfect - and luckily they will never achieve that....
FIGHT ON

After watching all of the games this year I think some of this may be because Booty throws a live low ball. Doesn't seem to put a lot of touch especially on the long ball doesn't arc the ball over the top stays flat and if your not right on the money with those passes they won't connect. That's my humble opinion anyway.
My only disappointment with the game (well not my only but my main one) was us running the ball on 3rd and long at the end and not going for the 1st down. I live in SEC land and that is standard protocol here punt and live for another day. The main reason that I like Pete Carroll has been the "We are going for the win period" attitude. We seem a little more conservative this year since we failed on that 4th and 2 in the Rose Bowl. Come on Pete keep the attitude We're here to win let's get it done. Fight ON!!!
ionolsen22 I am really impressed!
