High Stress Job

One reason Pac-10 replay official Gordon Riese took a leave of absence following last week's Oklahoma-Oregon controversy was because he received death threats from Sooners fans.

Mr. Riese should feel pretty safe though if any of the Sooner fans are as accurate with shotguns as Paul Thompson is with footballs.

I guess there's not much to do in Sooner land between harvest and planting seasons.

Typical OU fan response. This program has long been a textbook example of all that is wrong with college sports. From the shootings, rapes and drugs in the Bud Wilkinson dorm to the recent scandals - disgraceful.

Yeah, Gordon lives in Portland, as do I. Talk about insane; Oklahoma fans posted his phone number on their forum boards and Sooners called and threatened him. He quit because of the stress which has affected his health. I hope most Oklahoma fans are appalled by that behavior. It's a football game ... when did we lose all perspective?

By the way, Oklahoma has benefitted, as every team has at one time, from calls that went their way and gave them games. Since Oklahoma never offered to forfeit any of those I really don't think they have any moral high ground upon which to stand vs the Ducks. Bob Stoops, and his brother for that matter, whine far too much (and what is with the officials allowing them onto the field to complain about calls?)

What's worse is the reaction of the OU President, David Boren. I mean, doesn't he have better things to do, like, um, academics ... oh yeah, I forgot. I guess he doesn't have anything better to do.

It's called a football "game". While its important, it's still just a "game". A death threat over a "game". Some people's values are just screwed up.

Does anybody know how much these guys get paid? Just wondering ...
