It's Not Easy Being Dominant

USC coach Pete Carroll said the Trojans could fall apart just easily as Miami or any other recent college dynasty, despite winning 48 of 50 games.
``Heck yeah, we could,’’ Carroll said. ``It’s a finely tuned instrument. It’s not just the players or coaches. It’s both.’’

What's this? Is Carroll making excuses for the future? Jimmy Clausen era begins soon at ND and ND will take control of this rivalry beecause USC will not be able to match up offensively without Norm Chow when the talent level is the same..

Scott - only you would bring that up old negative garbage... what was it, a slow negative news day?

Tyler said:

I'm sorry but when exactly is the Jimmy Clausen era supposed to start? Certainly not next year when he would be a first year starter and USC would be returning all of their defense, their starting QB and their entire backfield. Or maybe you mean the year after that when Jimmy would be a soph but USC starter would be redshirt junior Mark Sanchez. Doesn't look good for you guys anytime soon.
Charlie Weis is the most overrated head coach in CFB history considering he is yet to win any meaningful game. Tee last time I saw a coach get this much press off of losing to USC it was Tedford. At least he beat USC 3 years ago in triple OT. Charlie doesn't even have that going for him.
The last time I checked Charlie doesn't coach defense and Jimmy Clausen doesn't play safety. Defense will always be ND's problem.

uh oh....another post from a "dumber" errr.."domer" who thinks Jimmy Claussen is going to change a crappy team into the 1977 Pittsburgh Steelers. hahaha...loser. Listen up NDFB, your team sucked last year, your team sucks this year, it REALLY sucked the years before that, too. Jimmy Claussen is not going to change anything.

BTW nice game against Michigan and Michigan St. last year. And Stanford last year, and Ohio st. and...the list goes on and on.

This is why anything about "Notre Dame" makes me want to vomit into a toilet. Nothing but classless arrogance, and then wondering why everyone hates them. :o))

I know a guy here in Michigan who also thinks John Candy...err Charlie Weis is a good coach and says the same crap the "NDFB" said. "Oh wait until he gets his own recruits in" "wait a few years" "give him a few years" blah blah..

What is he on the 10 year plan? See this crap is funny, you can't argue with "he just needs more time" everyone needs more time to make a better team. So the dumbers from Shit bend can just babbling this garbage for the next 10 years and continue to tell us how ND is "going to be great" and then re tell more retarded stores about George Gipp and the 1939 Irish team.

He has his own recruits in now! Who do you think recruited Sam Young? Darren Walls? Charlie Weis. He has been in there for almost 2 years now. What else does he need? Dang, Notre Dame fans sure got a bag of excuses. :))

Wishful thinking, Notre Dame Football (NDFB). Try winning a bowl game every now and then before running your wishful thinking smack. Jimmy Clausen won't have Mark Tyler bailing him out next year. He'll be going in the other direction - running downhill.

John Wocken said:

ND - Carroll isn't resting on his laurels - one key reason why the beat goes on at SC. Charlie better start finding some people for the other side of the ball or Jimmy will suffer the same fate as Brady.

What's your rallying cry now - wait 'till '08? At SC we reload on the fly!

From an "Irish" fan, posted in the year 2024:

"Hey we just gotta give Weis the time to clean up the mess Willingham made. And get his own recruits in there and learn his system. OK last year we were 7-4 again, and got destroyed in our bowl game. But once we get Jimmy Claussen's son in there at QB next year we will be #1!! And we will finally beat USC after 24 years! Take control of the rivalry! Yeah Irish forever!!"

NDFB, it's called humility. It's something Charlie Weiss knows nothing about. Good look taking control of the college football world next year with a freshman QB. I'm sure he'll get a nice dose humility after he gets knocked on his ass next season.

Than almost as predicted, all the coaches left. Not just Chow. Chow stays and Clausen would have stayed.

NDFB WROTE: "Jimmy Clausen era begins soon at ND and ND will take control of this rivalry beecause USC will not be able to match up offensively without Norm Chow when the talent level is the same."

The construction of that sentence obviously reflects the outstanding education you received at Notre Dame, no doubt as an English major. It's bad enough that you can not play football, but in this case I'm afraid you can't even write about football. This year? SC 35 ND 10. After that Mssrs. Booty and Sanchez will continue our annual thumping of the Irish, well into the future.

Only a fanatic would read into a pragmatic answer that has nothing to do with the fanatics program.

As far as matching up, PC may be talking about the future, but in the immediate future, if ND beats USC, hats off to their coaching staff and players for scheme and execution because they are not close athletically, to matching up at this point in time.

Let's see:

Pete Carroll: 57-10, 10 losses by a total of 45 points over five years.

Charlie Weis: Loses to Michigan by 26 points. At home. With the #2 ranked team in the nation.

Yeah, I'm sure Pete's making excuses for the future seeing what Weis can do at ND.

And for the record, the talent level will not be the same until Weis can haul in four consecutive top-5 recruiting classes, with the #1 class three years in a row.

Dream on, my delusional Irish friend!

GoTrojans said:

Yes, we in the Trojan nation all shiver at the thought of the Ron Powlus, errrrrr-- Jimmy Clauson era. . .

What does Carroll's statement about USC being like a finely tuned instrument have to do with Jimmy Clausen and Charlie Crewcut? Besides, the Clausen family hasn't proven anything yet (see Casey and Rick, who didn't amount to much), and Weis has the same record at this point in his domer tenure as Ty Willingham. If the domers think Clausen is they're savior, just wait for Beano Cook to predict three Heismans for the kid. It all smells like Ron Powlus to me.

hmmmm.... said:

NDFB.....Dude, are you kidding me??? Do you realize that if clausen starts next year, it will be without both jeff samardzija and rhema mcknight, their top two receivers. ND will have to go through what USC is going through right now, and USC have most of the defense back next year. As for the quote, Coach Carroll is trying to be humble about his success with the trojans and that IT COULD end at any time. What USC has gone through the past few years is astonishing and his quote shouldn't be considered an excuse for the future. As mentioned before, he is showing humility about his success and I wouldn't ask for anything more from a head coach and leader. You, my friend, are making a snap judgement way too early and not looking at the entire picture for the future. Think of what clausen will need for success: solid running game, good o-line, and top receivers. He will be good, but he'll need all of them to get to the top.

Dale said:

I wonder if Clausen would be going to Notre Dame if Mark Sanchez was not at USC.

Tyler said:

Here's a tongue-in cheek answer for you Dale: Hell No!!

There is no way Clausen wants to leave Tyler and go all the way out to BFE when he could stay here, surf on weekends and go home for some home cooking.
The only reasons he is heading to ND are:
1. ND is one of the few college teams running an NFL style offense.
2. ND offers him the oppportunity to start right away. (At USC he prob wouldn't see the field till 2009 - maybe some in mop up duty for Sanchez in 2008).

IMO, Clausen represents the one negative about Pete recruiting so well the past few seasons. Eventually, because of the depth Pete will lose out on good players that value starting time over competition.

Mike said:

Hey, NDFB, thanks for enlivening the website. But get serious: Clausen will turn things around as a true freshman with no receivers and a mediocre line? Even that self-proclaimed genius, Charley the Hut, can't make that dog hunt.

PH55 said:

Is Jimmy Clausen playing defense? (Oh he's not!) Better hope ND scores 40 a game next year. Sorry domer fans, it will be awhile.

Dale said:

My Domer friends were bragging about Weis beating out Carroll and getting Clausen. When they began to hope that Sanchez's troubles, with the law, were serious I cautioned them to be careful what they wished. Had Sanchez been gone I think Clausen would have switched to USC. Clausen is Notre Dame's most significant recruit in Southern California in the Carroll era.

Unfortunately, NDFB has managed to piss all my fellow Trojan faithful off and distract them from answering the subject at hand. How an idiot has managed to create such a diversion, is pretty clever at best. Maybe he should coach the Irish. At any rate, I think Pete is correct. Maintaining a dynasty after you have built one can be just as difficult. A slight drop off from both talent level and coaching intensity that these powerhouse programs are accustomed to can cause a slippage from elite status. Pete's got it going on right now. He is the one coach everybody wants to play for, because he makes the game seem so fun from a player perspective as well as a fan's.

Here is what I predict. Come Nov. 25th, 2006 no class, crew-cut Charlie and the rest of his Domers are going to get their asses handed to them in the worst ND loss ever by the Trojans. A month later they will lose whatever BCS game is stupid enough to choose them at 10-2. The pressure will mount up and Charlie will tuck tail to the NFL. Fight On Trojans.
