New Rule, Less Plays?
The new timing rules may have had some impact on Oklahoma’s opener with Alabama-Birmingham. The two teams combined for just 110 offensive plays, the fewest over the past 50 years for an Oklahoma game. The previous low during that span was 112 in the 1960 Oklahoma-Colorado game and the 1962 Oklaoma-Missouri game.

fewer plays........ more comericals... absolutely atrocious!!
great way to choooock the goose that lays the golden eggs.... ESPN management needs to take a course in marketing from USC...!!! WHEN THE PRODUCT IS DEBASED.....IT WILL BE REPLACED BY SOMETHING BETTER...IE. FORD/GM BY TOYOTA/HONDA....and don't think that it's not possible!!!
New Rule, Fewer Plays?
Grammatical Rule, Fewer Mistakes?
ESPN has committed many sins, but it is not responsible for the rule change that is at issue.
There may have been fewer plays, but Saturday's games still seemed pretty long. The second half of Cal-Tennessee was particularly glacial. At one point, there was 14:46 remaining in the fourth quarter for seven straight minutes.
They tried to speed up the game with the new rule changes, but with all of the interminable replay reviews, the games actually didn't seem any shorter. I could have swore the USC-Arkansas game after 3 hours was winding down the 3rd quarter. Why bother with those rules if they allow the replay booth to review just about every play?
bite my tongue....there already is a new product to replace the 3-4 hour infomerical that has become college football...hbo is advertising a 30 min recap of football games... all the plays none of the b.s.
that didn't take long to happen.......!!!
Agreed on the long and many replays, it completely negates anything they are trying to do; then factor in the commericals, seems like there are more and more commercials; overall this rule is a complete failure
The new rule should hammer home the fact that too many coaches allow their teams to waste timeouts in the 2nd half. Case in point...Pete Carroll pissed away an early 2nd half T.O. in the Rose Bowl. Perhaps the new rule will instill some common sense when it comes to calling T.O.s in the 2nd half. Teams that save their T.O.s, if they're involved in a close game, will have an advantage late in the game. I like the new rule.
