An MRI confirmed Josh Pinkard tore knee ligaments and is out for the season. He will apply for a medical redshirt for this season and undergo surgery in a few weeks.
We wish Josh the best and look forward to his return in 2007. He saved us many times last year. Time for the two heralded freshman safeties to step up with Dallas Sartz.

How thick-headed and greedy is Pete Carroll?
Since he isn't the defensive coordinator anymore (yeah, right), do you think he could spend a little more time determining that it isn't a wise at all to have your star safety (who does NOT have a dependable backup) out there covering punts when you're 36 points up?
Seriously! That is ridiculous! Get some of those young guys in there! I'd rather watch Arkansas run back three punts for scores than see Pinkard flat on his back with busted knee.
Use your depth, Peter!
And use your head!

FDOG,
I agree that it's terrible the Trojans lost Pinkard. In retrospect, he shouldn't have been in the game and he will be hard to replace. But the world doesn't end because one dude gets hurt. Darnell Bing started as a freshman and was lights out.
You may think that Pete Carroll is thick-headed or greedy, but he's got one hell of a record at USC. I'd rather have Pete Carroll coach my team than any other football coach. His teams are always ready to play. The Texas game included.
IN PETE WE TRUST!!!

I'm definitely not ripping PC but I do hope that in the future we can re-evaluate who we have on those special teams when the outcome is determined
On that note, good luck Josh, and I hope you come back strong next year. I feel for you

Best wishes to Josh. And unfortunately it may have been an expensive oversight that he was still in there. Is the special teams coach getting a serious toungue-lashing, at least?
Hindsight is 20/20. But, it doesn't take away from the fact that the game was over and we still had starters in the game ... on special teams!

When one door closes another opens...Which highly tauted recruit will step up and through to start their college careers - Mays, Perez, Green? Goes to show you that there are a number of "3 star" recruits [ex. Pinkard]that are alot better than that less-than-accurate celestial classification would have you believe. Gotta give props to Carroll finding the "3 star" diamonds in the rough. Here's to Pinkard experiencing a swift and complete recovery.

Memo to Pete Carroll:
Have your best players on the field when the game is on the line (Bush, Rose Bowl) and have those same players off the field when you are blowing out the other team and the game is over (Pinkard, Arkansas).

Well, as per the "slew of 5 star recruits behind him" I wouldn't exactly call Garrett Green a 5 star recruit at safety. Antwine Perez was terrible in fall practice you can forget about him. Something is seriously wrong with him he has lost 25lbs since arriving at USC.
So......yep real bad call by PC. Absolutely no reason to have your best safety in special teams in a game like that. It's hard to blame him, because he had his ass ridden all off season about their terrible special teams. But he still should know better. What will they do now? Play a mixture of Dallas Sartz/Taylor Mays there. Shouldn't of happened.

Let me get this straight--a bunch of bloggers using 20-20 hindsight know more about who should be in the game at any given point in time than the man who is clearly one of the best 2 or 3 coaches in college football? Give me a break! We all with Josh well, and we know that injuries are part of the game. Hopefully we won't have run of injuries on D like we had last year, but it does appear that we have more depth on that side of the ball than in the recent past.
Josh my friend, you are a Champion. and you will come back stronger. never give up.

Turn off the Tubos, yes its shame that my favorite player is out for the season, however, remember last year Special Teams sucked. The KO and Punt teams were made up from players from the depth charts. Special teams sucked to the point that Bush did not have a KO return for a TD. Also, remember that #36 was not the only starter on Special Team, Ryan Powdrell was also on special teams and got dinged. You need MEN on Special Teams.

Makes me laugh to hear all these people giving PC harsh coaching tips. I don't believe a single one of these people have 55 collegiate victories under their belt, hmmm...? Oversights happen, mistakes will always be made, after all the game of football is as much a human venture as any other -- so let's just stick together as a team, and Fight On, Pete!

Let's bring back Paul Hackett and have a medicore, yet fully healthy team.
Hackett is a good example of a coach who would call the dogs off way to early, both in terms of team attitude and personnel. I don't remember the specfic games, but I do remember just feeling the team relax from my stadium seat after we built a lead only to lose momentum and let the other team back in the game. More than anything, Hackett was a good example of a coach who did not know how to win.

I can't believe those "idiot" coaches let twelve true freshmen in the game....they could have been seriously injured. And using Sanchez for mop-up duty....he could have been seriously injured. The OC's didn't need to have all those different players score in the second half, sixteen points was enough....someone could have been seriously injured, etc. I really enjoyed watching the game, but didn't realize until the next day, how dumb the USC coaching staff is.
