Replay Fallout
Pacific-10 Conference instant replay official Gordon Riese has requested and been granted a leave of absence for the remainder of the football season, the Pac-10 announced today. Riese had been suspended for one game by the conference following a controversial play in last week's Oregon-Oklahoma game. As the Pac-10 replay officials work in crews, replay assistant Roger Judd also will not work any more games this season.
"Gordon Riese had a distinguished 28-year career as a Pac-10 official and, with the exception of Saturday, had done a fine job as a replay official," said Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. "He is an individual with impeccable officiating credentials and unquestioned integrity. We look forward to his return next season."

Apparently, he wasn't shown all the angles we were on ABC. He had one, bad angle to look at.
Nice to see the fine folks in Oklahoma are doing everything they can to reinforce their redneck image.
The University Prez. writes a letter of protest about a call in a football game? Maybe he ought to spend more time working on improving the second-rate status of his school.
And some really intelligent fans are making death threats to a replay official? Get a life people. It was a bad call but it's not life or death.
Go do something productive like fixing up your moonshine still or getting your Camero off blocks.
it's easy to see why PC dislikes replay....in the rose bowl some how the machines don't work when there's a clear downing of the ball by the QB; or the refs can't identify a catch, a fumble by an ofensive player and a recovery by the defense. now we're lead to believe that the replay official only gets one bad angle to look at....HELLO "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE"??????????????? if you're going to have replay, the officials need to be able to look at all the angles that are available from all the appropriate cameras in the stadium, otherwise it's a waste of time/money and obviously compromises the integrity of the game...period
Why isn’t everybody in the media not pointing out that Okalahoma and the Big 12 for that matter has gotten into 2 BCS title games that they didn’t deserve to be in (2003, 2004) and Texas got in the Rose Bowl instead if Cal in (2004) and Nebraska got in the BCS title game instead if Oregon in (2001) and Norte Dame got in the Fiesta Bowl last year instead of Oregon!!!!!!! And it was the wrong decision in each case. Oh the horror of getting snubbed once and the crying they are doing in even worse. The Pac 10 has been screwed by the BCS four times and oh my GOD a replay official that did not have the proper equipment made a bad call and all of a sudden OU is crying like the little Bitches that are!!!! Get over it!!!! ALL OF YOU CRYING ARE LOSERS as you have proven in your title games and you are making in even more provident now by the handling of getting on the wrong end of a bad call.

I agree with you guys on this...OK went too far. I liked the ESPN article on Forde on the things the OU pres probably should worry more about, such as makign sure his players don't have no-show jobs.
I'm a Trojan living in Oregon and in my 40+ years of fandom I've never seen anything this inane. Had Oklahoma forfeited any win in their history that was gained vis a vis an error by the refs, then they would certainly have the moral high ground (only team to do so: Dartmouth, 1940). They have graciously accepted official mistakes in their favor, they can accept one that is not. Davey is exactly right. He needs to worry more about his academic rating (112th at best) and not his football ranking.
If he had only 1 feed and if the feed was bad and was inconclusive, then why was he suspended?
The most disingenuous thing about Oklahoma's complaints is that they didn't seem to have a problem with a Big XII crew officiating the Sooners' home game against Washington this year. For Oklahoma to suggest that it is considering dropping the 2008 rematch in Washington unless the Pac-10 changes its rule is ridiculous since that would mean both UW-OU matchups would have had Big XII officials.
what about the crew that did the rose bowl this yr.???????????????????????
Davey,
2 Funny, but in their neck of the woods its not life or death,..................... its WORSE!
Stoops has said all along that he supports replay -- even though it cost his team the game-winning touchdown last year at Texas Tech and led to the game-winning touchdown last week at Oregon.
If he supports that, then, well, hey, sorry, but you didn't see Charlie Weis whining about the SC-ND ending.
MD....what's to whine about.....???????????/

They have graciously accepted official mistakes in their favor....Oklahoma vs Tech Tech in basketball 2002 or 2003...Bob Knight was all over this....see MSN
First: No body is crying about anything. The media keeps the story active OU has moved on.
Second: THe ABC camera lead responded in an interview that he did not know what Gordon Riese was talking about with faulty cameras and only having one feed. He was fed "8" replay angles to get the call correct and chose not to make it correct.
Third: I am not really sure anybody called in a death threat. I feel that was made up. THAT is not Oklahoma's way.
Fourth: I have to accept the bad call from last week and if you want to call OU the sacraficial lamb for exposing the problem, but I just want the replay upper management people to FIX the problem.
The hypocrisy is comical in this thread. ANY team or school that this would have happened to would have reacted similarly. Meanwhile the PAC-10 is doing spin control and hiding behind the poor old ref with high blood pressure who is afraid for his health. If you believe that this guy simply didn't see what everyone else saw you are children. He has a history of calling game sin favor of the PAC-10. When the game is on the line he has never made a call that didn't go the PAC-10's way. If there was no wrong doing then why punish the officials?
