Sorry Students
Just attended the meeting at Taper Hall for students upset about the new seating policy and near-rioting that took place Saturday. About 200 vocal students showed up.
``I want to apologize to all of you, it was not a positive experience,'' said Lori White, associate vice president of student affairs.
But here's my favorite quote of the night regrading the decision to eliminate 4,000 students seats.
``Clearly, we should have consulted more widely with the students,’’ White said. ``If we knew the impact, we never would have agreed to go forward with the changes.’’
More later.

How Do You Do?
The REAL question, Lori White:WHY DIDN'T YOU HAVE SOME BETTER/PROPER/APPROPRIATE IDEA as to the impact of so cutting the student ticket pool, much less how to let students into Coliseum without needless waiting, poor to no crowd control and the like?
And what about this new Director of Ticketing, Debra Duncan, who I understand came from the LA Dodgers?
Calling up the "autonomous" USC Ticket Office the past few weeks was another ZOO: long telephone waits, tons of idiotic prompts like "If you are calling for student-parents week-end, etc..." [when alums, ticket holders, calling about EXTRA Nebraska tickets ordered but when sent out or available in Will Call?] I was placed on hold once for 57 minutes--kids answering phones were freshman--just on campus and at USC for like a week and THEY were front-line to answer WHY tickets not mailed out or at USC Will Call--as promised--4 weeks prior to game [phone message on Tues. after Labor Day said: "tickets being mailed out today and tomorrow--IF you do NOT receive your tickets by next Monday (less than a week BEFORE Sept 19th game), please call back."] HUH?
To be placed on HOLD AGAIN? What caused this delay? It is fixed for later games, like Notre Dame?
And Cardinal & Gold Parking OUT OF THE COLISEUM a nightmare. Why not open up gates on to King Blvd.? Elsewhere. Tons of cars had to snake way around to narrow street/alley going out on to Hoover or King.
Makes sense for LIMTED ACCESS into Coliseum parking, but AFTER GAME, let cars out AT MULTIPLE OPEN GATES.
Where is common sense and ADVANCED PLANNING HERE?
Who IS in charge?
I find all of this really pathetic--no e-mail contacts to USC Ticket Office, huge phone waits, $40 instead of $65 STAMPED ON Nebraska v. USC Season Tickets, no live persons or extra phone help, very late processing of extra tickets purchased (I had my Arkansas tickets via Arkansas almost a MONTH before the game, but my extra Nebraska tickets--a game "handled" by USC barely a week before the game). WHY?
Poor John Morley must be turning over in his grave--no USC football tickets after him bear the signature or name of USC ticket manager (nee' director). I guess we know why.
Finally, what embarrassing ads at the Coliseum--especially DUMBTH! Chevron car race. Huh? AND WHY CAN'T BOTTOM OF "VISION BOARD" RUN SCORES OF ALL GAMES DURING THE 'SC GAME?
Fight...er, LIMP ON, USC misMANAGEMNT on USC Student tickets and getting safely into Coliseum; on alumni getting extra tickets days, instead of weeks before USC home game AND having better traffic flow OUT OF COLISEUM PARKING LOTS after game over!
In light of the demand for tickets, students need to forego the luxury of selecting their seating companion on game day. If that is acceptable, SC student seats are submitted for grouping requests several days before kickoff. The extra revenue from a few paid tickets overcomes the schools added seat allocation costs.
Please ask SC administrators why this obvious soluition is not instituted?
CAN YOU SPELL "WHINNERS"...........??? GET A F**KING LIFE....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The ticket office should work with a top prof to let some of our best and brightest B-school folks tackle this as a class project in the operations mgmt class ASAP! It should be due this weekend, in time to implement for the next home game.
Essentially free consulting from people who also have some stake in the outcome of the study. Seriously....
Uh, steve, it's actually spelled "whiners" ;-)
you just think it's spelled "whiners" !! i spell it whinners!! sometimes i even spell it whiiiiiinnnnners. on other ocasions, i spell it whiners but not very often!! it just depends on the setting...the important fact is that we communicated, and since i know that you know, what i'm writing about, then i've accomplished something here - although some might call that into question!!(e=mc2)
Hey Steve, stop whiiiiiining, and get back to your Bruin student section, God knows there is plenty of room there for students and other whiiiners like Oklahoma fans!!!!!!!
Hey, students, you want tickets? Transfer to UCLA. No problem getting seats there. Anyone remember how tough an SC ticket was under Hackett?
Too bad students won't also stand up for their basketball seats. Since the announcement of the Galen Center, the athletic dept has said, after students can show support for a team win or lose they will get better seats.
Well more students than ever are showing up for football games, and yet the student section was moved from the 50-yard line to the endzone and reduced from 12,000 to 8,000.
Sorry students, nothing you do will ever earn better seats.
are you one of those "student" whinners LIZ ???
I support the students Stevvveeee. Whiiiine all you want, but you are getting boriiiing, typical of a whiiiiner, go back to Westwood, or Oklahoma.... no need to call a ticket scalping agency.
