Surgery For Ellis
Nose guard Sedrick Ellis will undergo knee surgery today and be sidelined several weeks. Fili Moala will replace Ellis in the starting lineup.
The ironic thing is Ellis hurt his knee during a walk-through portion of Monday's practice. It's also fortunate that Moala worked at nose guard during the bye week.

Crap! I wanted to see USC with their best players on the field when the Huskers roll them over!
I don't want to hear any excuses from Southern Cal.!
HECK YEAH THIS WILL BE A SHOWDOWN AND USC FANS AREN'T THINKING SO. NEITHER DID MICHIGAN, AND ALL THE MEDIA IN THE ALAMO BOWL. YOU WILL COME BACK WITH, AT LEAST WE PLAYED FOR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. ALL I GOTTA SAY IS IF NOT THIS YEAR I WILL BET MY HOUSE NEXT YEAR.
relax my CornHusker buddy. USC doesn't have any great players which is why the great Cedric Everson is so important. The best Cb prospect in years is visiting USC this weekend. Go Huskers! Go Joe McDonnell! Go King Dorrell! Go Bruins! Go Harold in North Hollywood! Go Art V! YA!
It is comments like that, that make my Husker red blood boil. As a real college football fan, I sincerly hope that the injury to Mr. Ellis is not severe and that the whole country gets to watch a great football game this Saturday. Go Big Red!
Sedric will be missed.. Looks like Nebraska will put up two touchdowns instead of one.. USC 40 - Nebraska 14
I remember hearing the same thing from Arkansas fans before we whooped them. Let the play on the field speak for itself. Fight on!
It's a shame the cornholders found this blog.
a
I agree. I would like no hurt SC players so we can beat them at their best.
However, keep in mind that we have lost our best cornerback, back up cornerback, and a linebacker to acl tears.
So any excuses would absurd anyway.
I love what I am hearing about the number of Husker fans making the trip to L.A. I am trying hard not to say this, but I think all the signs for a "W" are going towards USC. However, this Nebraska team has a lot of heart, and we all know what that can do to a bunch of 18-21 yr olds. I think that Nebraska will keep this game close into the fouth, but the depth that SC has will out weigh the NU bench. My heart is telling me that NU will win something on the lines of 27-24, but my mind is saying SC wins 35-13. Anyways it should be a fun game to watch and GO BIG RED!!!!
easy all you 'husker fans!!! I am one of you, but let's not be stirring the hornets nest!!! Let the boys line up on Saturday evening and go at it. Best team wins, either way NU moves on. Remember, not so long ago we were where USC is now...we can get there again. Be classy, Big Red!!!
Heck Yeah? Nice comment...why would anyone celebrate the injury of another player? That is the the definition of envy - it goes beyond jealous. Jealous is wanting what someone else has. Envy is destroying what someone else has so no one can have it. It's the very route of evil...rot in hell.
Fight On Sedrick!
To the first couple of commenters: I don't know who brain-washed you into thinking your CORNhuskers actually have a chance....maybe it's something they put in your corn. Even if it is close in the first half, USC will make their halftime adjustments then come back out and lay it on you guys the second half. I don't think our offense will hold back this time around. No worries here! FIGHT ON!!! (PS - Go haze yourselves for those ridiculous comments.)
All I know is that I had warm, host-like feelings toward Nebraska blowing into town. Now, as LOUD season ticket holder, I'm going to be yelling my ass off and encouraging SC to blow the doors off of Big Red. And yes, this type of smack talk against SC teams began in earnest the week before the 2003 Orange Bowl. Iowa was going to destroy Carson Palmer, etc. That tactic doesn't work against Carroll's Trojans.
On to Sedrick. I wish him the best on a quick recovery. In the mean time, Chris & Fili will fill in nicely. Good thing this is the "soft" part of our schedule. and yes, that means YOU husker fan.
Every team has injuries, it's part of the college football game. Also part of the game is building depth, that measures whether or not a team is good or great. We don't have much depth at the CB spot while USC might not have depth on the DL. The game will be fought and won on the field. With class I will clap for the victor the same way we do at Memorial Stadium, home of the HuskerNation!
This husker fan wishes Mr. Everson the best. I hope he has a speedy recovery. Go Big Red!
TO THE HUSKER FAITHFULL ..................................HOLD THY TOUNGE........BE HUMBLE......BE GRACIOUS.......BUT MOST OF ALL ........BE CAREFULL NO TO INSERT FOOT IN MOUTH....DO I WANT THE HUSKERS TO WIN ....HELL YA....DO I THINK WE HAVE A SHOT .... YOU BET!!!.....IS IT GOING TO BE A GREAT GAME ....ONLY IF THE HUSKERS PLAY MISTAKE FREE FOOTBALL AND WE GET A FEW SC MISTAKES..... GO HUSKERS!!!
I wish Sedrick well and hope he gets back soon. I think most Husker fans wish him well. I hope we give USC a good game and I believe we have a chance to win. Inexperienced quarterbacks, defensive backs and now defensive linemen will start for the Trojans. This looks good for the Huskers on the surface but if any team can win with inexperienced (four and five star) players, it would be USC. I look forward to the match up.
Where are some good places to eat and party in LA? Any one on here from Nebraska going to the game or have any plans besides the SideTracks party? Email me if you do: behlen05@gmail.com
I agree with Kevin..... "ditto"... Just line em up and play football. Hate to see anyone get hurt and miss the game. I went to the Rose Bowl against Miami and felt confident with all the red fans there and we got whooped. Hopefully not this time, and we get another win against a power house team. USC was down for quite a few years and now they're back... just like we're trying to do.. Go Huskers.
I think USC prevails in a very close game. If that happens, Nebraska still 'wins' in the end because it will show the country that the big red machine is back!!!!!!!! However, I think we run the table in the Big 12 this year, including Texas.
GO BIG RED! USC is a GREAT team and could have won the Rose Bowl last year, were it not for the freak known only as Vince. I respect USC and am glad that we are back to playing other legendary programs! USC IS the better team, that is why they are 4th and have only lost 2 games out of their last 48. However, Nebraska is riding high, confident and will have a chance in this game. I think the 18 points the books are giving USC is absurd, but we shall see. Best of luck to both teams, come out of the game healthy and have fun!
Warning--this has been linked to on Huskerpedia.com, so those of you who don't want a lot of Huskers (Cornholders, I believe someone typoed in an attempt to insult) 'round these here parts are about to become severely annoyed.
That said, we're gracious guests and as those of you coming to Lincoln will see next year, very gracious hosts with great appreciation for storied programs such as USC. Like Nebraska, you exist at the top of the historical College Football ladder; unlike Nebraska, you've resided there recently. We're not quite back up there yet, but you'd probably be unwise to compare the team coming to visit this Saturday to Arkansas--and you probably shouldn't be too cavalier about losing some key defensive starters, our coaches know how to scheme a little bit. Best of luck to this young man and his knee surgery, and Go Big Red!
The most disappointing thing for me is that this game was scheduled back in 1997, the start of a 60-3 five year stretch for Big Red. This isn't the same Husker team, and I don't expect them to win....
Just got this office the Omaha World Herald web site www.omaha.com Pretty interesting article with some irony.....here's a few lines of the article..
As the final touches were being put on the Nebraska-USC football contract for 2006-07, the Huskers were charging toward their third national championship in four years while the Trojans were barely keeping their heads above the .500 mark.
Plenty has changed since the NU-USC contract was signed in October 1997 and released three months later.
Southern Cal is winning championships and Nebraska is scrambling to find its old place. Both programs have changed head coaches twice since the series was set - USC from John Robinson to Paul Hackett to Pete Carroll, and NU from Tom Osborne to Frank Solich to Bill Callahan.
Offensive tackle Chris Patrick said "It's a pretty cool opportunity, It's USC, you know, and there's a lot of tradition, just like we're Nebraska and there's a lot of tradition here. I'm sure it's definitely something I'll remember."
-------------------------------------------------
Here' my comment...
I'm hoping the Huskers can keep it close into the
4th quarter....and pull out a close win...
To USC fans, ignore those cocky statements from some of the early posts. Probably a Texas fan blowing smoke... :>))
Like every team that plays USC, the huskers have nothing to lose. Everyone expects them to get beat down, so if they get lucky and win good for them. I am a husker fan and being realistic about the matchups it does not look good. MAYBE if we had bowman...but we don't. Grixby is going to be schooled by those receivers he was routinely beat short and deep by la tech, and he is the best we have! Next year in our house I will be more optimistic. USC31, NU21
I was at the game in 1970. A Great game which ended in a tie.
Let's see.........who was national champion that year???
USC is going Down!! They are going down bad and it wont even be close. You guess are a bunch of pretenders and bandwagon fans. Pretty soon you'll all be rooting for Miami or Notre Dame again so instead of going to the Coliseum this weekend why dont you just go play hide and go F*** yourselves instead. That crowd's going to be at 50% Husker fans!!! It's going to be Awesome!!!!
Get Well Soon Sedrick. I'm a Husker alum from Southern California, now in Idaho. I am expecting a good game Saturday night with a lot of offense for both teams. My prediction: high scoring game, with USC having advantage in kicking game. Turnovers will decide this one. This game could be like last year's USC/Fresno State game--winner will score in high 40's and its anybody's guess who that will be.
Whoa Nellie! I guess it must be time for the Nebraska game at the Coliseum because an endless stream of RVs from Buggahah Nation have begun to invade the already congested freeways of beautiful Southern California and Cornhusker fans are even popping up on the Whittier Wiz's blog!
Settle down Cornhusker fan and come back to reality. Unfortunately, you no longer have Tom Osbourne as your coach or Tommie Frazier as your quarterback. The College Football Preseason is now over, no more Louisiana Tech, no more Nicholls State, you just get USC at the Coliseum. And unlike the Cornhuskers, over the last four years USC has been busy playing in 3 straight National Championship Games, 4 straight BCS Games, has had 3 of the last 4 Heisman Trophy winners, and has gone 37-2 over the last 3 years...oh yeah and we haven't lost in the Coliseum since 2001.
If I remember correctly, didn't a 5-Loss Michigan team "almost" beat Nebraska on the last play of the game in a horribly reffed Alamo Bowl...on a play that took 41 seconds...included 7 laterals... and oh yeah the whole Nebraska team, coach included, rushed the field because they didn't realize the game was actually still going on. Note to Cornhusker fan: you should only brag about beating Michigan when they are actually good. Please see 2003 Rose Bowl where USC beat a 10-Win Michigan team for a share of the National Championship.
Also, didn't last year's Nebraska team have a chance to play in the Big 12 Title Game and represent the G-d awful Big 12 North, but lost a close 30-3 game to a Colorado team that lost 70-3 to Texas?
AND is your coach the same Bill Callahan that was fired from the Raiders because he went 4-12 and couldn’t win with Jerry Rice and Tim Brown? Maybe next year after USC beats Nebraska in Lincoln, and your AD fires Callahan you can hire Houston Nutt or Art Shell.
Hey CURT, I'll see you in Lincoln next year and you better have the dead to your house with you!
Get well Sedrick
and for all of you saying NU blows out SC, heres a stat for you
PC has lost ten games by a cumulative total of 45 points. One of those losses (ND 2001) was by 11, the rest were by a TD or less.
the last two losses covering the last three football seasons were by 3 (3OT Cal) and 3 (Texas)
So PC just doesn't get blown out. You might want to re-think all these 42-10 predictions.
I will say this injury is definitely a blow to the SC DL.
good luck to both teams... stop all the trash talk and name calling we are fans, college kids will be out there giving their hearts and souls on the field saturday.... applaud them all and go home happy to have seen a good game..... go huskers and go fans of both teams stay classy
It's matchups like this that make me wish I didn't suck at sports. That I possessed even the slightest athleticism. That I wasn't 40, but somehow 15 again rumbling behind Monroe Mustangs' 2nd string offensive line as the 3rd string halfback thrown into the wee hours of a mop-up battle, being pummeled like Rocky's dead cow.
Well, ok, I guess I'm glad to be 40 with yet another opportunity to cheer on the Huskers at my local Hell's Kitchen pub in NYC with 200+ lunatic ex-pat Nebraskans who somehow believe that our beer-primed vocal cords can be heard on the Left Coast; our shadow-boxing fists felt landing the knockout psychological blow.
Here's to two great programs, and one hell of a game. I hope to god we win, but despite all the crap that's bound to pour out of my mouth come Saturday (including but not limited to "Punish the Infidels") I have nothing but respect for Pete and his Trojans and wouldn't wish injury on anyone. If there's anything Nebraska has more of than corn, it's class by god.
I was quite classy after every tackle for a loss that coincided with every time I carried the ball as a Monroe Mustang I recall... guttural spasms of potty-mouth notwithstanding of course.
Go Huskers.
The money makers and prediction gurus are expecting USC to blow out the Big Red Nation by 20 or more.
USC has a notoriously weak defense, and their power-house offense is now reliant on a new QB with only one game under his belt. They are prime for an upset.
Nebraska's strength is the front seven on defense but the secondary is questionable. The offensive line is unproven against a real opponent.
Prediction: The Backshirt line will disrupt and confuse Booty. He has never faced anything like the Blackshirts. Cornhuskers will be in this game and a twenty point blow out is unrealistic. Nevertheless, USC makes great half time adjustments and sooner or later Booty will begin to complete passes into our secondary.
Final comment: NU defense will hold off USC offense until the final quarter. The NU offensive line will struggle to protect Taylor who will suffers hits reminiscent of last season and resulting in limited NU offense success throughout. It will be a tight and exciting game until the Blackshirts get tired and Booty starts to connect. The longer the Blackshirts terrorize Booty the longer we are in the game, and not a moment longer. Either way it will be tight. GO BLACKSHIRTS!
CorndogDon is an Arse - It should be a good game Nebraska 38 USC 34. Hope all the injured players on both sides heal quickly and fully. GBR
This is a great measuring stick for Nebraska's continued progress since the inexcusable losses to Missouri and Kansas last year. Optimism is high, and the team is showing signs of definite progress back toward the level we expect to see from a Nebraska team. Win or lose, I expect a hard-fought game from both teams on Saturday. Nebraska will come in with a chip on their shoulder, a good gameplan, and their sights on taking down another prominent program like they did in the Alamo Bowl. I expect nothing less than a great effort, even if the Huskers lose on Saturday. U$C definitely has the advantage on paper, but anything can happen in the game. Go 'Skers!
All true Husker fans are wishing the Trojans well...just not that well. I wish Sedrick a speedy recovery. We respect what USC has done and hope our turn is around the corner again. Husker Power.
CORNDOG DON YOU ARE TRUELY A MORON....HEY MOUTH I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE NU GAMES SINCE I WAS 5........ BE HUMBLE..... BE GRACIOUS....AND DON ....MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN.....I HOPE ITS NEBRASKA...I THINK IT WILL BE THE HUSKERS WHO PREVAIL......WE DO NOT HAVE TO BE MOUTHY OR COCKY,,, WE LET THE MIAMI'S OF THE WORLD BE THE PUTZ'S OF FOOTBALL
JJH4USC,
That's right, the preseason is over. No more playing a team that went 4-7 a year ago (Arkansas). The reality is Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart are long gone and they weren't good enough to beat the only Big XII team they faced last year anyway. Yes, 37-2 is nice. It's not 60-3 but then we wouldn't expect a USC fan to be able to remember anything before 2002 anyway. That's because you were still Miami fans then (cough...bandwagon...cough).
Yes that Michigan team had problems. One problem was that they were overrated early last season. Sort of reminds me of a certain team that played Arkansas a couple of weeks ago.
I'd point out that the Huskers actually beat Colorado 30-3, but then considering how pathetic the Buffs are, that would be like bragging about the Nicholls State game.
Yes Callahan is the same guy who didn't win with 40 year-old receivers the year after he took the Raiders to the Super Bowl. Gosh, I don't recall Carroll ever taking the Jets or Patriots to the Super Bowl (or the playoffs for that matter).
USC's on a nice run and I'm sure it has nothing to do with free housing for players like Reggie Bush. I'm sure the program is as clean as the beautiful Watts neighborhood that surrounds your campus. Oh, Barry Switzer called, he wants his recruiting methods back...
No one from 'SC really cares about what the media says, or what teams say. We are too busy trying to get better every single day, and that is were things usually get lost in the translation from fact to fiction.
Polls, stats, rankings.. mean nothing at the moment.
Don't believe the hype, or the hype will defeat you the moment you give-in to it. What will happen Saturday? No one knows for sure, but what we do know is that WE FIGHT to the end, BELIEVE in ourselves, we COMPETE, and we FINISH.
FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER. How are you feeling these days?
Injured knee needing immediate surgery during a WALK THROUGH? Let's see 1+1=2 and this injury equals steroid use. Too bad for him. Good luck anyway.
To Sedrick hope every thing goes well and you recover and get back playing this great sport.
To fans on both sides, the talking will be done on the field and the best team will win.
BTW we beat Colorado 30-3, we weren't even suppose to be in the game with Michigan. Kinda like back in the days we couldn't play on grass or compete with the SEC champ, because we were all the Big eight had. How close was that Florida game, I think Tommie is still running.
I take no stock in odds, I believe in the heart of the players and knowledge of the coaches. It will be a good game all around, between two of most storied programs in the game.
We'll all have to wait and see who wins.
As Chris Berman say "thats why they play the game"
Go Huskers
What warped reality are the Cornhusker fans living in? Guys, your team is an 18-to-19-point UNDERDOG.
Well, at least you'll enjoy our wonderful Southern California weather for a few days, spend money in our fair city, thus helping the local economy, and even get to see what an elite football team looks like.
Fight On!
Don't doubt Vegas. We've lost twice in FORTY EIGHT games by a combined total of six points. We have too much talent, too much speed, too much strength to lose to you guys. I'm not saying Nebraska isn't any good, but you are not yet at the level you need to be to compete with us. We're 20 point favorites for a reason, and these ridiculous predictions are going to be quite laughable after Saturday's game. Just don't get your hopes up. I'm looking forward to a fun game.
Thangs must be purty slow back in that there cornfield; y'all gotta have your corny conversations out here.
Oh hell, I have nothing against Nebraska -- we both hate Oklahoma after all. But Troy has led Neb. by tons in recruiting the past five years, and there is nothing in recent (48-2!?!) history to indicate that Mr. Carroll does not know how to coach all those blue chippers, now is there? Booty is no Leinart ... well, he is stronger and has far better knowledge than Matt had was when he started with a big win over top 5 Auburn. Carroll just might know what to do with all those nationally ranked recruits which is why the betting line is so high -- the line is what people are willing to bet with their OWN money, not a prediction of the outcome, an important distinction. After all, money talks and when folks put their cash on the line, it speaks volumes. So, 18 points is what it takes to get folks who are impartial to put their hard earned money on Nebraska. That simply means most people think USC will romp. I happen to think that's off, I would take Nebraska with say 28. Good luck to all you terrific folks, bumpkins though you be. Good luck indeed.
WOW, sounds like the Nebraska folks have never been off the farm let alone, been in LA before. The Trojans will have a real warm welcome for you. Its call a deep bench, and this year, there isn't any showboating going on for another Heisman. This years team is probably going to be better than last years. Oh BTW, JDB has been backing up old what's his name for the past three years, and is actually a much better QB. Its going to be real fun time for the Trojans. Nebraska folks, you're going to enjoying watching Traveler run around after each USC TD, and the Song Girls are the best looking in the NCAA.
FIGHT ON!
I have three things to say. First, these husker fans are like cockroaches. Where the hell did they come from?
Second, cool down BIG RED. Its a long way back to Lincoln!
And finally, the trojans lost all those players to ACL tears? What I want to know is how in the world did Charlie Weis rig those playing fields?
FIGHT ON TROJANS!
Steve of Nebraska:
Racism has no place here. Yes, Watts, an African American neighorhood is where we are. And we are damn proud to be here; in fact we have a long list of sensational players from my 'hood. I realize Nebraska is very unsophisticated and extremely white, i.e. frightened of anything different. Live in the 'hood and meet the great people there before you comment on where we live, or on our neighbors. Poor does not mean dishonest, it means poor. Black poor is who you dis. Stay in Lincoln.
You Cornhuskers sure do have a lot of time on your hands (or something in them).
Folks look at what we are dealing with.. A bit of truth about the state of corn-----
Trivia: What was Nebraska's first choices of nicknames for sports?
ans. the “Bugeaters and the “Mankilling Mastodons"
Thank God the smartest person in the state picked "Cornhusker" as a final answer..
Average IQ in Nebraska? Check an ear of corn.
Next Question:
What is Nebraska's most adored mascot named?
"Lil'Red".. an 8 foot muppet that bounces on his head to "thrill" the audience..
Need I say more?
Next Question:
What is the population of Lincoln, Nebraska?
Less than 230,000 folks.
How many fans does Lincoln stadium hold?
80,000--- more than 1/3 of the cities population,
And larger than the third largest city in the state (Bellevue).
And it is always packed... Talk about a wagon train. See what happens when you have NO professional sports in your city except minor league teams.
Nebraska's greatest inventions:
Kool-Aid, the Vise-Grip, and the world's largest porch swing.
I kid you not.
When was the last time that they beat 'SC?
ans. NEVER.
Has 'SC beat Nebraska?
ans. Yes, and in Lincoln at that.
So, go easy on these guys, most of what you say will not be understood. We'll send them back to Lincoln on those little yellow school buses to make them feel at ease.
You Trojans think Booty is stronger right now than Leinart was last season? Are you smoking the crack so prevalent in the lovely USC ghetto neighborhood? Lets be honest with each other. Booty is green! Green! Green! Green! If it were not so he would have been playing instead of Leinart.
Now overall, I admit USC looks far better than NU on paper and in they eyes of the bookies. Of course, on paper you were much better than Texas too. And by the way, Michigan had the same spread on NU that USC now enjoys. The fact is that spreads and paperwork are reliable enough for gambling, but then that is why they call it gambling. But when a team is as over-ranked as USC and another is as underrated at NU the climate is ripe for an upset. Admittedly, NU may not be up to the challenge, but it is nice to hope. One thing is for sure, somebody will upset your house of cards this year—we just hope its us.
Oh, and you do realize that the Big Red Nation extends beyond Nebraska and eats more than corn? I spent 20 years in LA, I lived in Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming and it will be a cold day in Hades when LA fans support their team like the Big Red Nation. We travel well because we are everywhere. There is a reason USC stopped selling game tickets after only a couple weeks back in July—the BIG RED INVASION. Now of course we wont buy out all the seats, but your apathetic bandwagon fan base is quick to sell and it doesn’t take too many fanatic Huskers to combat the measly 9,000 tickets USC reserves for its students and the other thousands of silly bandwagon trash. We will be heard, but our crowd will be the least of Booty’s troubles when the Blackshirts reign terror on his little party. And as for your “deep bench, yes, your illegal funding did get you some top recruiting classes, and we’d love to see all those wet kiddies on the field. Somebody needs to teach them the difference between high school and a national champ caliber team. We’ll try not to send too many to the hospital, but no guarantees. Juiced up kiddies have erratic responses to bone crushing huskers.
Now all jokes and bravado aside, we wish you all the best luck. And if you win on Saturday, maybe you'll even go on to build a dynasty as famous as ours. Good luck to you--just not too much on Saturday.
Remember the Alamo (Bowl)!
Hopefully the SC and Nebraska recent Heismans will be at the game...oops, ours have games on Sunday.
Win or lose you'll back at the NC Game this year....in baseball.
I'm just looking for some hard hitting this weekend....Where's the Lawrence Phillips tailgate party?
Oopps, February, not July.
Regarding T.J. Simers (LA Times Columnist) Lambasting of Nebraska:
Hey T.J.
Last I checked, you live in a glorified suburban desert, sponge water off your Northern neighbors, commute 2 hours to get 20 miles and fill your faces with enough plastic to build a Lego Hoover Dam. The only thing more fake than your hyper-extended smiles might be your stapled half-stomachs, ShopVac’d butts and thighs, bee-stung lips and Jello-mold boobs. Pretending that your sad collection of adobe strip malls peppered with the occasional sprig or two of palm tree (did I mention desert?) qualifies for a city is pretty hilarious though. As evidenced in your vacuous column which supposedly passes for humor in your town (does it come with a laugh track too, Mr. Studio City? – it desperately needs one), you tend to be small-minded, hyper-conservative folks who garnish yourselves with self-appropriated “liberal accolades as you see fit, to guise your “OC provincialism.
I was born in your sad neck of the woods (Pasadena) but had the fortune of growing up in Nebraska where we keep it real. Although I’ve migrated from Nebraska to NYC and from Republican to Democrat along the way, I wouldn’t trade five minutes of my life in Nebraska for an all-expenses paid week in your irrigated sandlot of quasi-talented, self-congratulatory stick figures.
You believe your right to crap out a mean-spirited column entitles you to belittle the most gracious, humble and genuine football fans in the country. It doesn’t. How many times have Trojan fans gathered around the opposing teams exodus from the field to applaud their effort, win or lose. It happens every home game in Lincoln. I refuse to let a second-rate scribe like yourself, unsheath his common, blunted blade on my fellow people of the Corn, who have more class and integrity than you have saline, or is it silicone again… I forget.
Now, have anything to say about NYC, T.J.?
Didn’t think so.
Go Huskers!
Angry Frank
P.S. on an editorial note, your column lacks cohesiveness, rambling incoherently between an unexplained trip to Nebraska, a disjointed paragraph about your Rose Bowl experience and back to your RV before a splattering of Carroll sound bites. All this with no real insight into, or nuances fleshing out the character of the people you attempt to skewer with your dull quill. Sloppy.
I just want to say that NU fans as a whole are some of the nicest politest fans we will see at the Coliseum.....it would be nice for us Trojans to return the good manners. I can do without the Cal people ????, the Stanford fools and the Ucla knuckleheads..but the folks from the midwest and the South have always been great and sensible fans .good luck to both teams and Fight On Trojans!!! beat the Huskers !
I love the trashtalk. To the BigRed fan that said USC has a notoriously weak defense. Do your research. Aside from last year when USC lost half their starting defense to injuries (losses which by the way were still good enough to get them back to the NC game to eventually lose by only 3 pts in the final 15 seconds of the game) USC has been among the top 3 teams in turnover margin since PC came to USC. You want stats...Here's some stats:
Top 5 teams in Turnover Margin stats (by year) since 2001 (since PC came to USC):
USC: +16 +18 +20 +19 +21 : Total = +94
OU: +9 +19 +17 +4 -1 : Total = +48
West Virginia: -8 +19 +16 +3 +14 : Total = +44
Miami: +27 -1 -4 +14 +5 : Total = +41
Texas: +10 +17 +2 +5 +7 : Total = +41
That's right USC has almost twice as many turnovers as the next closest team since PC arrived on campus.
oh and Nebraska btw: -1 -3 +23 -13 -2 = +4
So when ZT throws 4 picks (much like when Arkansas had 5 fumbles) don't be surprised. Don't blame your team for not "protecting" the ball or "giving the game away". They didn't give it away we took it.
It's just what we do.
Good luck on Sat.
Hey Tyler - you sound just like me... Back in the 90's when Nebraska kicked everyone's A$$ we could say the same thing. It comes to and end my friend. Are you ready for that?
man, i cant wait for the game to start already...lot of huskers gonna be sad real soon...so much talk with nothing to back it up...wins over puppy teams mean nothing on the national championship scene...
Hey - Ray - I live in Arkansas and you set yourself up for this one. Arkansas is a puppy team as well. Good luck defending that one!
Nicholls State has played Division I-A schools 14 times, and won once (1-13),, against Arkansas State in 2001, if you want to call that a Div. I team. Oh yeah, now (1-14).
Nicholls State passed the football only 3 times against NU out of 50 plays and fumbled the ball 7 times! And the NU DB's are talking trash??
Andre Jones had one (1) assisted tackle against NS.. and he is going to stop somebody?
The other team NEBRASKA played this year is in Nicholls State same league! Another Div. II school! What a bunch of bullies!
The team size of NS was about on par with a Junior College, oh yeah,, wait... they used to BE a junior college!
What a joke.. You all should be ashamed of yourselves and coaches.
Back in the 90's! hahaha,,, is that the best that you can do? You mean like actually 1991 don't you?!
