You nailed Michigan and ND last week. You have been doing very well, very impressive. I just wish you thought more of SC.

Matt said:

Scott, what's the matter with you? Florida State is still WAY better than USC, right?

Well, things are becoming clearer and your rankings definitely reflect that. However, to have Texas A&M on the poll at all is truly surprising, given they barely beat Army and beat two even lesser teams in the Citadel and one of those infamous Louisiana schools not called LSU or Tulane.
SC's play Sat night did not warrant a ranking any higher, though.

-The Wolf School of Balloting-

Lesson one: Ignore logic.
-ND gets destroyed at home yet still ranked ahead of Oregon who beats ranked team.

Lesson two: Be stubborn. Don't stray too far from your preseason poll, which was based on meaningless speculation.
-Florida State and Miami are not Top 25 teams, obvious after week one, glaring at this point.

Lesson three: the SEC is the best.
-Tenn. & LSU (no TD scored) lose and barely slide. Do losses mean anything.

Lesson four: If USC beats you, must not be top 25.
-Neb. no longer top 25 after losing to SC on the road.

Lesson five:
-Post ridiculous poll without no explination or accountability

Keep up the good work Scott. See you again next week...

What happened to Florida St? I thought they were the #5 team in the country.

LSU can't score a TD and they are still #7?

Miami is 1-2 and they are #18?

USC at #6 is just a joke. The only team(s) that deserve to be ranked higher are OSU and possibly Auburn. West Virginia would be a 10-14 point dog to SC on a neutral field.

Neal said:

Scott Please stop embarrasing yourself..Until West Virginia plays anyone and no I don't mean East Carolona next week you can't put them as #1. Auburn's defense looked good but 7 points against a good team is better than USC? Iowa who barely beat Syracuse and Iowa State is #8. Miami with 2 losses is still in top 20. I could go on and on. Did I forget everyone in the country has USC 2 or 3 this week and you don't even have thenm in top 5. I could say more but do I have to?

what are the Mountaineers doing at the top of this list? Louisville is going to kill this team as long as Brohm is healthy

Rankings don't mean a thing this early on in the year. The higher USC is ranked this early in the season, the more pressure it puts on the team to keep it up. We're breaking in so many guys, let's just take it slow... like we've been doing.

As USC fans, we have been spoiled with college football's greatest offense the last two years. Against Nebraska USC sputtered at times, but comfortably and put away a Nebraska team with an exceptional front seven. I thought last night's win was an excellent showing.

The Trojans will get even better as the year goes on (hopefully without any further season ending injuries). With our schedule, we should run the table and improve game by game. Hopefully we'll have another crystal football and a Heisman for JDB.

FIGHT ON!!!

IN PETE WE TRUST!!!

This is a recording: Scott, please explain your strange choices on your poll. A USC beat writer ranking them probably lower than anyone else in the country? Miami still ranked?

Why not discuss it in your blog? WHY NOT?

I'm beginning to think that you are not serious in your rankings, you just do it to get a rise out of us, which, if true, is pretty $%@*ty.

Scott, dude, are you TRYING to create controversy? Leave that to T.J.Slimers and Tom Leykis....

'Splain yer picks, man!

TommyBoy54 said:

The only thing worse than your rankings is the way USC treats its student section as second class citizens and that's not saying much.

USC JACK said:

Scott you've lost all credibility with your ballots

these are so off base...its no wonder why Sports writers no longer have a say in the top 25

you guys are morons

Matt said:

Scott, i am actually ok with SC at 6 seeing how we played saturday night. BUT, FSU at #16!?!?!?! beating a terrible miami team, barely squeezing by Troy and losing to an average clemson does not warrant at #16 ranking. and Miami at #18. Scott, they are gonna lose at least 2-3 more games this year. are you personally trying to save coker's job?

and ND only drops 4 spots after getting their ASS handed to them, at home no less?

you're a good writer scott, maybe use those skills to explain these picks!

Joe said:

Getting better. I don't mind that you're not sold on USC, but why is Iowa in your top 10? I saw them play Iowa State. They're not a top 16 program.

yohanes said:

Your ranking is quite ridiculous... Oregon should be higher than Notredame, simply because they are 3-0, and ND just lost a game at home.

Sc should defintely be top 3. But I guess you have your logic. Just can't see it.

JOE said:

Can someone out there please tell me why everyone love notre dame? I just dont see it.
Average QB, RB, and a very slow defense....

MD said:

Why did Miami fall so far?!

Once they had moved from 12th in the preseason to 10th on the strength of their five-yards-of-offense-in-the-second-half loss to Florida State and a big win over Florida A&M, I thought for sure a beating at Lousiville would get them into the Top 5.

Shkot Wulp said:

Scott, if you want some credibility, you gotta explain the readers your rationale.

At this point:
8. Iowa (too high IMO)
12. Louisville (too low IMO)
13. Notre Dame (too high IMO)
16. Florida State (too high IMO)
18. Miami (too high IMO)
23. Texas A&M (too high IMO)

all need some kind of justification.

Oddest thing in the polls, including Scott's, is 1-2 Miami, beat bad by a banged up Louisville team, getting more votes than 3-0 Pucla. Go figure; but if west coast writers don't believe in the Pac 10 how can we expect the east coast to give us any respect? Fortunately, national writers are giving this very talented SC team more credit. This ballot looks like someone who wants to be right (guessing how they will actually end up given strength of schedule) more than voting how he feels. BTW, SC strength of schedule is ranked higher, I think, than almost every other top 25 team.

WVU grad here. Nice rankings. I would be very interested to hear what reasoning was used for your top 10.

Scott,

Great job in the polls. I think you right on, and at the end of the season, people will be praising you. WVU fan here, and we may not have the toughest schedule, but we are a great team. Once our defense comes around, watch out! I feel we will be in the championship game and be victorious, making you look like a genious!! Thanks Scott

Dan Hamrick said:

Yes, Louisville is going to "kill" WVU just as they did a year ago (sarcasm), when WVU did the destruction. WVU has more player back from a year ago than Louisville or virtually anyone else.

Jeffery said:

I would like to know why your ranking are like this. I could argue some points, but you don't explain why you have these teams rank this way.

Take West Virgina, did you watch their game on thursday night. They have a lot to improve on and are not close to OSU, USC, UM, Auburn.

DRF said:

You believe Texas A&M is better Nebraska? better than Cal? better than about twenty other teams that would kill TAMU?

Simply irrational.

And who seriously thinks W.Va. is better than OSU, Auburn, SC, Florida?

W.Va. has an easier schedule than any of those shools - is that what you're ranking? Ease of schedule? (maybe that also explains TAMU)

yohanes said:

dude... if west coast writers do not respect west coast teams, then I can't blame the east coast writers saying Pac-10 is weak.
