A Few Facts

| | Comments (4) |

Oregon State's 33 points is the most the Beavers scored against USC since 1914 in the teams' first meeting.
John David Booty's 406 yards passing was the fifth-best performance in school history, just ahead of Matt Leinart’s 400 yards last year against Notre Dame. USC is 3-3 in games where the quarterbacks throw for more than 400 yards.
Steve Smith finished with 258 yards receiving, just two yards shy of the USC record of 260 set by R. Jay Soward against UCLA in 1996. Soward’s mark came in a double-overtime game.

Steve Smith was very impressive. But many passes were thrown to Smith when he had two or three defenders around him. You can do that against Oregon State. But do it against Cal, Oregon, and ND and the passes will be intercepted. The tight end was a major weapon for three years under Matt Leinart. But the tight end seems to have only a minor role in the current passing offense. That's too bad.

Too bad Booty couldn't do any of this during the first three quarters when the Beavs were trying to play defense

To quote a certain famous man:

"Whoopty doo Basil what does it all mean?"

It means they can pass the long ball, which they should of been doing all season. It means they can score alot of points, which they should of been doing all season. Instead they have waited until they were in panic mode to try it. Not good coaching.

But mainly it means they are a poor team and their luck finally ran out, and they had to start heaving the ball downfield so JDB and SS got alot of yards. Not much to be proud of, either.

Agreed, Trojan Horse. No player of any substance would be proud of personal stats when their team loses the contest. Worst yet, we looked like chumps the entire game. Why didn't we put in Sanchez and get him some snaps and see what he looks like when we were down by 23? PC is being a nice guy to Booty because he has known all along this is not a Nat'l Championship caliber team and is just rewarding Booty for being patient and creating justification to give Sanchez the nod next year. Booty will get his bowl game, albeit a lower-level one.

Fight On!

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
