About The NFL
USC president Steven Sample's objection to the NFL is pretty simple. A redesigned Coliseum would seat about 68,000 with expanded seating to 80,000 for big games.
That's a net loss of 12,000 seats (even by USC's own strange attendance counts) and means quite a drop in revenue.
It's an issue that needs to be resolved although the NFL is opposed to adding more seats.

It's only a loss if USC doesn't raise ticket prices. My guess is that they probably would if the demand is so high. Or at least make it up some other way.
USC could easily make up the difference by scheduling an extra home game. If the SEC teams can schedule 8 home games a year we can schedule 7. The extra game is worth 90 thousand seats, which would make up for the 72 seats we would lose for a six game season with a renovated Coliseum. Here's how it works. Every year when we play UCLA at the Rose Bowl (which would give us 5 conference games on the raod) we should schedule all OOC games at home. When we play ND on the road we should schedule two OOC games at home. Granted this alignment for scheduling prevents us from having any OOC home and away series other than ND. The exception would be to have the 7 home games every other year. In seasons where we play ND at home, we schedule the other home/away OOC game on the road. That would give us 6 games at home and 6 games on the road with one of the road games being UCLA, which is like a home game.
This alignment would mean that whenever we play ND on the road all of our other OOC games would be at home. This is an advantage that we have not explooited and should considering what other schools are doing with their scheduling. We we still have among the toughest schedule because we would always have ND and one other quality OOC opponent that we would play home/away. The best part, though, is the extra home game every other season.
The Coliseum has raised the ante by saying maybe its time to move past the NFL. Maybe its time to start modernizing the Coliseum with extra monies from the Coliseum events. USC's lease with the Coliseum ends very soon and one of the new conditions should be that some moderization occurs.
Here's what I'm wondering. The stadium where we played VaTech in '04 is the one where the Redskins play, right?
Doesn't it seat something like 90K seats? So why does the coliseum have to be 68K seats?
Yeah, maybe the demand isn't that high, but if the LA pro team started to actually win, we'd get there.
Fight On!
Let the NFL go to Riverside
No!
I'm from Riverside and we don't want them here.
Say NO to the NFL (No Fun League).
L.A. Turn the Coliseum over to it's rightful owners. USC.
SCREW THE NFL! Let them go to the OC or San Gabriel Valley. WE DON'T NEED THE STINKIN' NFL!
My guess is that SC will become the master landlord over the Coliseum and the entire park once the lease expires next year, and will thus allow for future development of the grounds including residential projects, the demolition of the sports arena, underground parking for many many thousands of cars, ala the Petco Park environment in San Diego. And the NFL will never play a game there, but up in either Chavez Ravine or in the Cornfields near Chinatown, or hopefully Riverside!!!
And the stadium will still hold 90,000 or so!
I remember before the Rams came, USC had over 100,000 for games against Notre Dame, UCLA, Cal, and Stanford. I know beause If I got there late, I usually sat in an aisle. Then NFL came and seating had to drop slightly. Finally Al Davis and the Raiders chased the Rams to Anaheim, UCLA to Pasadsena, and almost USC out of the Coliseum. He reduced the seating and had the track taken out and when he couldn't control everything went back to Oakland and caused troubles there. Let the NFL go to Carson or Riverside. SC however would lose out on parking when other teams play.
i speak for every USC fan when i say to hell with the nfl. if the nfl comes to the coliseum, they're of course gonna make the stadium feel like a professional revenue. the stadium won't have its feel of a collegiate stadium. they'll decorate that stadium with whatever that team is n no usc decorations. when their lease is over they better buy the Coliseum and make it the school's stadium. once that's done then the school can finally renovate that stadium. the stadiums needs to be remodeled BUT not reduced in seating. if anything, keep the seating or what the heck, increase the seating like other school's have done to their school. with all this said USC basically can not be punked around like if they're a team that's only played their for a year. USC has played their for 83 years. how are they gonna let the nfl come in an act like they own this place. USC has 83 years under their belt. USC has money to buy over the coliseum and plus doners.
