Against The Spread

| | Comments (19) |

USC is a dreadful 2-4 against the spread this season and the Trojans' games finished ``under'' in total points in five of six games. But that's better than Notre Dame, which is 1-5-1 against the spread.
Here's how some other teams match up:

USC 2-4
Notre Dame 1-5-1
Ohio State 7-1
Wisconsin 6-0-1
Tulsa 5-1
West Virginia 4-2
Tennessee 5-2
Texas 3-3
UNLV 1-5
Fresno State 0-7
Stanford 1-7

So what? Who cares? There's more important things to be concerned with when you follow a team than the damn spread.

Try telling that to John Redcorn.

second to fan man.....who gives a crap.

I hate all this betting stuff...I bought previews mags before the season started, Street and Smith, Athlon, etc...and 80% of the whole thing is about betting!

It was so retarded they even had a section on what the rules of football are for the lame asses who just watch to bet and don't even know how football is played!! HELLO A PREVIEW MAG IS FOR HARD CORE FANS WE KNOW THE RULES OF FOOTBALL!

Against the spread, straight up, bet on USC at home.. blah blah..anyone who bets is throwing their money down the toilet. Why don't they give the money to me, I will go upstairs, open a window, and throw it out for them. Then we can get their stupid betting crap out of here and talk about football. :)

Seems to me someone wound Fanman a little too tight today.

Don't get John Redcorn started.

thought I read something similar about last year too - how they were maybe 6-6 against the spread. But yah - unless you are a gambling when the fun stops type of deginerate - who cares

Who cares? John Redcorn does, and Scott knows this. That's why he's trying to goad the Cornman into a response, thus stimulating more blogging activity.

Why you say? Because trying make a story out of Rey Rey's off field activities didn't work. Sanchez's back is a non issue. and Stafon Johnson has no intention of transfering.

Slow news day at Howard Jones field Scott? No worries. Just make some sh*t up.

I can just see it. It's after the ASU game. You're standing on the field looking for someone to talk to (or should I say someone who will talk to you) You spot Stafon Johnson. Needing a story and a pot to stir, you spew out the following...Hey Stafon! STAFON! As a top, five star recruit who hasn't played, you must be thinking of transfering. Right?, RIGHT?

Unbelievable. No wonder why Matt and Reggie didn't....oh never mind.

USC's and ND's records against the spread say less about those schools and more about the inflated and nonsensical expectations of the average gambler. The spread for USC games has been way too high for 3 seasons now. There was a time when a 14-point spread was considered huge. During USC's streak, a 20-point spread was routine. Who cares if USC fails to live up to "expectations" if the expectations are ridiculously inflated by amateur betting money?

FZoons...When are you going to actually post something on this board that's intelligent? Or at least significant? You might just need to get a life pal.

TrojanHorse, the Nebraska game closed universally at -17, so that was the other game that covered. It opened in the -18 to -20 range, but was bet down rapidly.

Scott wolf was 0-4 today...

He has nothing interesting to say.

I should have said 1-4.. McKeever article was something worth knowing.

I am going to have to disagree with all of you...and I am suprised at how much anger there is.

Wolf brings up a good point and maybe this is the gensis of an article for him. To me, the spread shows the flaws in the national expectations of a team like SC. If you look at the other spread losers/winners...everyone thought ND was going to win the NC so they all bet big[..lose], no one believed that OSU was going to have a potent offense[people tend to think of OSU teams as low scoring..lose] and SC started out like a cannon and no one looked any deeper to see the mounting injuries fighting against the learning curve of the freshman[lose].

It shows how easy it is to bet college fottball if you are willing to bet against the emotional swings of the average fan. I love the college game becase a team like Clemson can blow out GT on Saturday and everyone annoints them the best one loss team in the country, forgetting that these 18-20 year olds were partying all weekend while their coaches were patting themselves on their backs and they forgot that VT was hungrier than ever and 12-2 on Thursday nights. It's only human and the emotion of the week. Easy to see in hindsight but not so many people see it coming and actually bet on it.

Professional gamblers make a killing off these "emotional" lines. I am willing to make a prediction that all those people that are jumping off the SC bandwagon this week[the line started at 14 and is now 10.5] are again going to lose their shirts because they forget that SC has healed up well and the frosh are now six weeks into the season and developing....email me on Monday if I am wrong, I certainly wont rub it in IF I am right. Just an "educated" guess, that's why we play the games.

John Gamblecorn are you reading this?

Redcorn's been busy day trading after losing so much on SC games because of Kiffin. WMT (Wal-Mart) has been up 10% since SC played Arkansas. And look at Google! He had to get a piece of that action.
