Carroll On The BCS
Here's Pete Carroll's take on being No. 2 in the BCS today. It's more than he usually says.
``I generally don't take a lot of stock in it. I know it's time to start the interest in the BCS standings and all and so they have to kick off sometime and this is it. I don't see anything controversial or anything that's going on. Just the opening round.
``It does position us in a place where if you hold on you have a big opportunity at the end of the year. But it's a long haul and we're just at the halfway point now.
``I know that we've played a very difficult schedule relative to other teams. I don't know how that stacks up with, particularly, Ohio State and Michigan...I don't even know how they rate the schedule right now, but so I'm sure that enters into this thinking in particular the scientific part, the computer part of it.''

If you would have told me USC would be in this position in 1999, 6-0 and #2 in the BCS, I would have laughed in disbelief. Then I would have said, is Lou Holtz still coaching the Gamecocks?
Pete, it's simple. If SC runs the table they play for the championship. Running the table might be less simple!
He'll never get the chance to "hold on"...a term he wouldn't have even used in either of the past 4 seasons unless he finds a replacement for Kiffin and for Booty.....and blows out that soft 34 basic D.

Not the time to panic. Come on spoiled SC fans, give Pete a chance to work his miricles again. If we were to lose a game, would the sun come up the next day? Some institutions would die just to be in any bowl game. Things are good at Troy.
I don't know if SC can run the table, but these three things I do know: 1) Tommy Tuberville is a crybaby who ought to concentrate of finding an offense, 2) Lou Holtz is a senile Domer with teeth that don't fit, and 3) any Trojan fan who boos SC ought to be removed from the Coliseum. Paul Hackett was not so long ago.
Is there a chance that both Sarkiffian and Holt are holding something back for the Final 4 games of the season? This had led to some very close calls, but is PC & Co. waiting to unleash hell for the penultimate games down the stretch?
Just a thought...
If USC played texas right now, they would get destroyed. So much for the rankings...
I agree 100% with GillyKing.
Let's replace Kiffin and Booty mid-season and see how that works out. Things can't possibly get much worse than 6-0 and 32 in the BCS - can they?.
It's common knowledge that when you change your QB and offensive coaches mid season on an undefeated team things only get better from there. I say we bring back Matt Leinart or trade Booty for that backup QB on Louisville's team.
We all know Sanchez is likely much better than Booty but Pete is probably benching him to teach him a lesson - we don't play no redshirt freshmen here... I can't wait for us to lose so that Sanchez can learn for good.
Haha well put Mike....that Lou Holtz is a retard. Does anyone outside of south bend like him?
Tyler.."don't play redshirt freshman"? How about E. Moody or Taylor Mays ?
I agree about Turner. Is he that scared of getting hurt or something?
Anyway, I think there are great posts on here and most people have realized that this team is not too good. And they have to get rid of the 3-4 and go back to the 4-3, open up the offense, work on JDB's throwing, etc. All we can do is hope PC does that and it works.
Hey Andy, Texas already played the game where THEY got destroyed. . . No defeated team should ever jump us, especially with our SOS.
Naysayers read carefully... LAST YEAR'S TEAM IS GONE... USC has a new inexperienced (untested in battle) team on the field. #2 in the BCS should be an unexpected surprise. Enjoy it and look for some future luck. The Trojans will need it. I hope their holding something special in reserve for their run at the PAC 10 and National Championships. From here on, its really one game at a time.
Patrick, I'm not so sure you're really all that great at picking up the subtleties of humor. Consider Tyler's statement for a minute. Then go "Ohhhh..." The end.
Mike: Don't forget Ted!
