It's Getting Ugly Out There
A season-ticket holder sends along this observation from the Arizona State game.
``The crowd around us is getting really unruly and directing expletives at the team (USC). Last week, the LAPD guy who stands in front of (the team) was telling people in the crowd to tone it down. The crowd really turned on him and I don't think I've ever seen him back down the way he did.''

what team? I am confused...at ASU? Or USC?
Hey that's fine by me I am tired of people from Notre Dame and Tennessee saying USC has poor fans and the Colisseum is not so tough like playing in Auburn...
Long time season ticket holder,..Really enjoy the noise and Trojan Spirit!,...Ugly out there?.. I'm an ole-timer,.. I MISS THE STUDENT CHEER>>>> KILL!<>> KILL!<> KILL!... or how about,.. WE ARE SC!... YES!...Bring back the Card Stunts!... Love the enthusiasm of the crowd now!,.. not like the toll..., smi.. or the 2nd coming of Mr. Robin... days!,.. WE FINISH STRONG!,. sans of course against Tx..
Expletives do NOT belong in the stands,.. My kids might hear...SPIRIT YES!,.. TRASH TALK,.YES!,.. RUDE, CRUDE AND INDECENT,...Ever been on the UCLA side,.. let's not be like THEM!...FIGHT ON!
Wolf's talking about USC.
Which is shameful, but not surprising, considering how a number of the comments here read like Lee Corso on mescaline.
I think Scott was referring to OUR fans ripping OUR team.
Fight On!
I wonder if they're season tix folks or not - I'd be surprised if they are, esp. if they are part of any of the big alumni donor groups. But bandwagon fans I can understand - they want 50 points per game or 'we suck'. Stupid.
Now the cop - why on earth would he back down?? If they pop off to him, he needs to get his buddies and escort their asses out. They'll keep their mouths shut next time....
I do not think that I can remember a 6-0 team more maligned than this team. USC is rebuilding an offense and has a brand new secondary. Growth pains are expected, but they have not lost a game -- something they could not say at this point in 2003.
It is simply incomprehensible to me that fans would say any expletives to a program that was in the last two BCS championship games and have played for the national championship for the last three years. Even if this is an off-year, is it really that big of a deal?
Everybody is prematurely panicking. USC is going into a bye week during which they can work on several weak areas and hopefully tend to some injuries. We all hope that they come out strong and better. But people just need to let this young team develop, even if that means they stumble at times in the season and even (God forbid) if that means they actually lose a game.
One cop telling an entire section to tone it done is a moron anyway, a smart cop would know better than to try and tone down an entire section
I don't believe for one minute that an SC season ticket holder is yelling expletives at the SC team. A little booing maybe, but expletives, no. This just sounds made up.
tell that BS to someone else. USC screwed us Sun Devils visitng for the game like crap - Sec 1 and Sec 2? our band literally was closer to downtown LA than the field and you couldnt hear anything from their corner behind the bleachers.
and seriously, we were told 10 different stories about parking the days before the game. suddenly all the rules on tailgating were changed "the day before" and no one was allowed to tailgate in the only place to park, the structures.
absolute BS - personally I think every Sun Devil will remember this and park all you SC fans on the mountain when you come visiting. Frank Kush was in the stands and he was literally 10 rows from the top in that corner, in front of the field that was 50 yards away from the end zones.
I have nothing but positives to say for the true SC fans, mostly class people. some even invited us Sun Devils to join their tailgate areas knowing that we were being pushed by the SC police away from being allowed to tailgate.
Except for the 4 Raiders fans who sat in our section. to SC's $$$$-focused athletics dept, why are you selling tickets to Raiders fans in front of the visitors section? Seriously, no class at all in the SC administration.
I and alot of Sun Devils are seriously pissed at how we were treated in our seating and parking priorities. SC ADMINISTRATON HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CLASS AT ALL.
It's getting ugly in here.
Freud called this the Herd instinct. The crowd reacts to the emotional irrational and each participant justifies another joining in. Just another way of explaining the emotions of lynch mobs.
It is a sign of times from Detroit NBA game to Miami's recent football game. Sad that it now includes USC fans. The same people who hugged each other for last 4 years. Returning to less than superpower was a given. No dynasty continues for every year.
I wouldn't blame the players so much. Fans need to recognize the great staff of 2004 is gone and on this alone decline was inevitable. There are no replacements for Chow, Coach O and Davis. Even PC is gone as defensive coordinator. Also look at all that left early. The fact is every year there are more great players spread out and more good coaches.
But if I was PC I would be getting Sanchez a lot of snaps and playing time in next 2 games.
I am not the greatest PC fan. I don't like the child in him as a role model. But this is truly unfair to him and players. They are 6-0 because they have heart.
what a bunch of whining, spoiled ass fans! I hope these bandwagon complainers stop coming to the games. I'll take a win by one point every game. Newsflash whiners: This isn't last year's team. Get used to close games and new player mistakes. If you can't handle that, go cheer for UCLA.
You can sum it all under fustration. Faithful SC fans need to remember the past and how we all stood by the team win or lose. We have a great coach, and a great set of players. We may lose a game , and that is expected, but do you jump the boat, of course not. Hang in there SC fans, we know who the faithful are, it is going to be a Wild Toad Ride, fasten your seatbelts, but don't lose sight of the past of what it once was, but appreciate what we have been able to experience with the recent team players and coaches. Fight On
Just to let you all know, there were definately some explitives being exchanged between the student section (myself included) and Carpenter before any of the other gates were opened. Personally, I love the trash talking if it is to the other team, but are USC fan honestly complaining? We are THE MOST SPOILED FANS in college football right now. To the bandwagon fans: support your team or don't up, period.
6-0 and all this complaining.
Yes, there are problems, and I've even wondered if maybe we have the wrong QB in there. But the bigger picture is that a few years ago, we truly sucked. Now we've finished #4, #1, #1, & #2 in consecutive years and undefeated this year.
I'll take that in a LA Minute. Let's enjoy this continued excellence and hope Pete and the Coaches are able to coax some improvement. Luckily, we've got time before Cal.
FIGHT ON
It is a sad day when fans (student section and more) are a cross between Lord of the Flies and the Thunderdome. For God's sake this is just a game. Pete Carroll and company are a class act. All top college teams enjoy success in a cyclic scenario (see Okalahoma, Notre Dame,Tennessee). The Trojans may lose a game or two this year but will be light out next season.
Ya Paul Im not a big PC fan either, the guy is so overrated. What is he now 54-4 now since Carson Palmers senior year. There are so many coaches that have done better in that time period. Dude you must be a moron. And to Rob the moron ASU fan. Where do you want us to sit you and your fans the 50 yard line? We sat you where every other college sits the opposing fans in the corners. Not our fault the stadium is built so your kinda far away. Oh and it would be funny if you guys treated us badly next year when we go there. Cause i rem. being there last year when your fans and school were mocking SC at halftime up 21-3. Man its been all down hill from there buddy. Maybe your team can make another bowl game at the local Baseball stadium this year!
If the season ticket holders don't like the product they should leave. That way I can have their seats! I guess they don't remember the teams before PC.
Class, dignity and respect. Unfortunately, not all fans have it, including some Trojans.
I'm so sorry Sun Devil fan,
We profoundly apologize for not allowing you to sit in your preferred 40 yard line seats.
Are you retarded!!
Why would USC put it's own fans in Sections 1 and 2 and the visiting team and band in better seats? Every stadium puts the visiting fans at the endzones / corners. Why would we let your visiting band near our home-field?? Do you not get the concept of home-field advantage? You sound like your idiot QB who said after the game and I paraphrase: "That he didn't expect the referee's to call his illegal forward pass in the 4th quarter...to give the Sun Devils a chance." Right.
Take the seats that you are offered and be glad that you are allowed to sit in the stadium at all. Half of the Nebraska fans had to sit in the parking lot to watch the game.
Been a ticket holder for 25 years. Would you prefer the "good old days" of wimp ball (Tolner, Smith etal). Could get to the game 1 1/2 before and picnic, no problem parking or getting out after. Oh yes, and crappy teams (really crappy, not 6-0 s...)! Come on, we're spoiled now, admit it and appreciate the effort etc. we are putting forth. FIGHT ON!!
First of all, I can't believe we've turned one lame season ticket holder's opinion (one of 92k+ fans)into a comparison of some of the worst fans in sports. Detroit? Miami? This is one old guy upset that some drunk kid was swearing near his kids
Secondly, anyone who thinks Booty will/should be replaced by Sanchez this year is moronic. This isn't the one-win Arizona Cardinals looking for new direction. This is a 6-0 growing team. A switch at QB means the following
1) Booty leaves SC (see ASU)
2) Players lose confidence
3) God forbid Sanchez isn't BETTER than Booty, the season goes down the drain, possibly the next 2-4 years
Right now lets just hope that Booty can spend the bye week, OSU and Stanford games growing, learning, and finding his confidence/comfort with his game and his receiving corps. We're all a little nervous but the real challenges are still 4 weeks away. We will be ready.
Memories are short. Anybody out there old enough to remember the '90s Trojans. Aside from a Rose Bowl victory over mighty Northwestern, it was a decade to forget. Now, we are the team of the 2000s, and Trojan "fans" are still complaining because we are winning "ugly." I was at Oregon last year, and the fans were still screaming encouragement when they were losing 38-13. One year at Notre Dame, the Irish were behind by 20, and that crowd willed its team to victory over SC. Think that would ever happen with a Los Angeles crowd? Occasionally-- 1974 with ND and a couple of years ago with Cal. But that is about it. Quite frankly, SC has never had a home field advantage until the recent years, and even that paled in comparison to other college venues across the country.
I have said it before on this blog, but in reality SC should be looked at as in a rebuilding mode, and are one-year away (2007) from greatness. However, the fact that they had the schedule work in their favor, won some games perhaps they should not have won, and have the toughest part of the schedule at home in November (but please don't look past Oregon State!), the team has a CHANCE at greatness this year. I for one am excited as Hell about this struggling, fighting team.
There you have it. At least one USC fans admits to participating in this trailor park ritual USC fans call game day. And she's as proud of it as she is of her "Daddy's Girl" tatoo on her as*. It's not as if there isn't a reason USC fans have some of the most dispicable reputations of fans anywhere.
Dave, SC fans don't have a 'dispicable reputation,' not even close. You want dispicable? Domers are the most deluded, obnoxious and insufferable fans imaginable. Sitting through a game at Domer Stadium is next to impossible if you're not wearing greeen. And don't get me started on that moronic leprechaun mascot!! Who could live with himself dressing in a green chimp suit and growing a pencil moustache?
Rob,
Here is a quote you made:
"our band literally was closer to downtown LA than the field"
Just to let you know, your sections (Tunnel 1 and 2) are on the south side of the stadium. The field being directly north of you. Even further north, which you might have seen depending on how high you were is downtown LA. So, no, your band was not closer to downtown LA than the field.
Speaking of the band, do those shirts come in packs of 5 at the local Walmart/Target or did some donor shell out for those. The Coliseum staff could have used them in between plays as peanut/cotton candy vendors.
I strongly object to the post by Dave Simpson ripping USC fans. Sir, you are a moron who probably can't even spell your own name!!!
No really, judging by your handle name "Dave Simspon", you really can't spell your own name!!!
Kind of takes the air out of your flame buddy!
Did anyone watch the highest rated QB in pro football on the best team last night! I bet he starts next week after 2 fumbles, four picks, and no TDs, in a come from behind win.
Another stat that seems to not get mentioned...For all USC's "struggles" this season this team has yet to fall behind by more than a FG in a single game. Unlike last year's team which had already fallen behind by double digits twice by this point in the season. At least this team isn't complacent.
Bandwagon fans should just shut up and not go to the games!
Clearly, no one on this board has been to a game in Columbus.
I am a season ticket holder and USC alumnus who sits in an upper row in section 15. That section is crawling with USC fans dropping f-bombs and s-bombs at Carroll and Booty ALL GAME LONG. Every time USC fails to convert a third down, or gives up a first down, or, God help us all in section 15, turns the ball over, we get 30-60 seconds of non-stop expletives, followed by vocal cord-straining demands for Mark Sanchez. By God, if we can't win by 4 touchdowns, some of these fans would literally rather see the Trojans lose. Seriously. There is one guy who, during the 4th quarters of the last two games that, yelled "I hope they really DO lose this game." Of course, this same idiot laughed out loud at ASU "blowing" a timeout before first down on USC's last possession.
Mike, Amen Brother, love Chicago, hate Doomer Stadium and fans.. Fight ON!
I think they should bring $5.00 beers back to the Coliseum. Beer can solve all of the worlds problems.
