More Pressure

USC coach Pete Carroll said he reviewed the films again and Washington State quarterback Alex Brink threw just three passes where he actually dropped back with rolling out or taking a quick, three-step drop.
That said, Carroll said he needs to increase pressure on the quarterback tomorrow, which means the Trojans won't sit back in their base defense the entire game like last week.

the lack of blitzs in the 2nd half was an obvious coaching mistake

I agree with the concern but blizting a very mobile QB like Stanback is dangerous. You blitz and miss him and he could really hurt you with a long run.

Despite the coach-speak, I believe USC will stay in their base with zone coverage more than most folks would like to see. It may be boring but that is the best way to win this game.

Now, if USC can control James and Rankin and the UW running game on first and second down (unlike WSU), you are going to get 2nd and 3rd and long and you can take some chances. You need to control the running game. Stanback can and will hurt you on some spectular individual plays. But those aren't going to beat you without a strong running game to keep the chains moving.

Well, the pass rush sucks. Just like every other aspect of this defense.

like every other aspect, these linebackers are some of the best in the country@ some are just 2 year players i agree the pass rush is a concern but having ellis back may help

Last time I checked the defense is only giving up an average of 12.25 points per game while the team is scoring an average of 31.5 points per game through the first four games of the season. Not bad for all of the changes and injuries the team has had to deal with and do not forget, JDB has only four games under his belt and he will continue to develop each week. Trojan fans, just relax, the team will continue to get stronger each week.

More pressure on the Quarterback...Well, Yeah!
