Red Ripple
Fresno State lost to mighty Utah State last night and is 1-8 since losing last year's 50-42 thriller to USC. Imagine if not for Reggie Bush's 513 all-purpose yards, Fresno State's only wins in the last 10 games would be Nevada . . . and USC.
And within a 12-month period, Fresno State would have won at the Coliseum, but lost at Logan, Utah.

If they would have beat SC I have a feeling they would have won some more games after that. The loss to SC last year ruined their year.
I think if Fresno St. had won that game against USC, it is save to say their next 9 games would not have been 1-8. Momentum is a very powerful thing.
This is such a stupid post Scott. What does Fresno State this year have ANTHING to do with USC?
EVERYBODY gives their all against USC, SC gets everybody's AAA+++ game, the game of their lives and then just has nothing left the next week or in many cases the rest of the season
Exception; Arkansas, who seems to have gotten better
Theory builders; Arizona, gives a great game against SC, tanked it since, Wazzou, great game against SC, squeeks by a bad OSU team, Fresno, nuff said.. this could go on and on too
Scott, what does Fresno State losing to Utah State this year have ANYTHING to do with USC last year?
This has to be the dumbest post since the start of this blog. What's your point Scott?
And if LenDale White had followed Fred Matua's block on 4th and 2, USC would have a 40 game wining streak. Imagination time is fun!
Could you please post more interesting 'what ifs?' They're much more interesting than, what do you call those things reporters no longer report... facts?
Imagine if you said something logical. Imagine. You don't know what the result would have been if Reggie had been injured for that game. Lendale might have had a career night. You don't know. If Fresno had won that game they might have continued winning. You don't know. Emotion plays a big part in performance. If you are going to make random guesses I think you should keep it to yourself. If Reggie had not played and we lost maybe we might have still made it to the championship game with only one loss and we may have won the game against Texas. You don't know. Maybe if Reggie had not played in that game he would not have won the heisman and he would have had his career night against Texas. You don't know.
They are in rebuilding mode this year. They can't just reload but look for them to be good again once they get more experience because they got one of the best coaches in the country. Our D was really bad that day.
Actually, it's more likely that had they won at USC last november, they'd have gone more like 7-2 since. It has seemed as if that loss to USC last year defeated Pat Hill, and his team still hasn't recovered.
Imagine if...
1)Columbus never landed in the Caribbean
2)George Washington never crossed the Delaware
3)D-Day failed
4)FSU (not the Seminoles) beat USC
What do they all have in common? They are what ifs so it doesn't matter because history is history unless your car has a flex capacitor.
Imagination is wonderful! Imagine if the 2006 defense was as good as we thought it was. Or that Booty would take up where Leinart left off, without experience and healthy receivers. Or that a freshman running back would step in and match Reggie's all purpose numbers. Yes, imagine if Lendale would have followed Matua's cut block on 4th and inches. But in reality Matua missed that block. And we are still hurting. But, also in reality, Booty and USC are 5-0 and ranked 3d in the nation. Imagine!
Fresno St????????? A team that has a pretty decent coach and had a few great players who played there primarily because they couldn't get the grades to play elsewhere. They snuck up on a couple of heavyweights a few years ago that totally underestimated them and thus picked up a couple of newsworthy upsets. Bottom line, just another small school team headed nowhere. The luster is off of them and now teams prepare better for them because of that scant handful of upsets. They scared a few teams but bottom line....a nowhere program that probably wouldn't average winning more than 2 or 3 Pac 10 games per yr
Anyone who thinks these things are in any way related is mentally deficient - plain and simple. It has to be the only explanation.
Maybe instead of making ridiculous connections between unrelated incidents you do some "research" and point at the real reason they've lost so many games since. The loss of their senior QB, top 3 RBs and all world CB. At least that would make some sense.
Using your rationale Texas should be still be undefeated because they beat USC last year - and despite the fact that they lost VY. Oh and USC should probably also be 1-4.
