Funny.
Dennis cannot even crack the 7th string running back position.
Players ahead of Patch:
Chauncey,Stafon,Moody,Gable,Bradford,Broderick Green,Marc Tyler, Desmond Reed, and probably Michael Coleman.
To my count, that is 9 players ahead of him. If Chauncey goes to the NFL, all those studs have 2 good knees...whereas Dennis has only 1.
He's damaged goods....kinda like Reed.

"help my draft status"
he meant "help the team" ..right?

"help my draft status"
PC shouldn't allow him to have the sixth year just based on that..

Should a kid have a right to a sixth year if he won't play? Dennis is going to be 6th string at best. He has been in Pete's doghouse for a while with numerous encounters with the law. I don't think that he will even play next year if he is granted a year. He should take a medical redshirt, graduate, train and try out for the scouts next spring.

Dennis is a great guy, a quality human being. I lived near him freshman year and have a lot of respect for him. Unfortunately, after the fumble at the Cal game in 2003, he basically fell off the map. I've never understood, given his experience (and that of Desmond Reed), why Carroll didn't want to give him another chance. They're obviously struggling in the backfield and could seriously use some RBs with experience.
Add to that the accusations against him a couple years ago and two serious injuries...it's a real sad story, because he was a great guy.
Of course, when he beat Loyola High for the CIF championship in 2001, I was cursing his name, but that's old history.

Both his knees are a mess....I hate to be brutally honest but what is going to do in the NFL? Play special teams?
Both those points are good. B.Green is now down to a "soft verbal" and I am assuming he will de-commit somewhere along the line. He was always shaky, anyway. But HD will still be behind all those other RB's. And with an attitude of "I am here to push up my draft stock" I don't know how much PC will play him anyway...

I think Hershel Dennis is confused like Cruiser in Stripes.
Cruiser: "I thought I'd better join before I got drafted"
Sergeant Hulka: "Son, there aint no draft no more"
Cruiser: "There was one"

Isn't that something PC actively cultivates in recruiting, that a player's draft potential will be maximized by attending SC? Kinda silly to criticize it (that player's care more about their draft status than the team) when you're playing that card. But maybe that explains why TEAMS with a lot less talent can sometimes stay on the field with SC.

Goodbye, Hershel - we will always remember you for that OT fumble at Cal in 2003. Good luck in the CFL.

Patrick,
A "soft verbal" only applies to a committed recruit that intends to take other trips anyways. That is a categorical matter, not a description of Green's interest in USC. We are solid with Mr. Green.

Roger,
One guy is not represenative of the entire team.

Patrick,
When did Green become a soft verbal? I read almost everything related to USC recruiting and have yet to see that in print. I've seen it stated on numerous boards by people who don't know what they are talking about though. Where did you read/hear that?

I don't know I saw someone on here post that he was now a "soft verbal" on scout.com....maybe I have a bad source :))

I have also read articles on scout.com that Green is going to be hard to keep as a Trojan commit...I think he will stick with us though. :)

I think we should give some respect to HD. Everyone playing at SC is trying to improve his stock in the draft, or else they won't come to SC. Anyway, if HD shows that he is good and making plays, who cares if he is trying to make a better draft, he needs to win for the Trojans to make him a better pick anyway!

Also, it is on scout.com

Green is not a "soft" verbal. Rivals classifies any commit that plans on taking other trips automatically as a soft verbal, but that is a procedural thing on their part. He is taking the trips to appease his mom, who wants him to make sure he wants to go to SC. He is still a solid commitment.

I noticed Green changed from commit to "soft verbal" about a week ago on WeAreSC. I haven't head any rumors as to why, but he did take a trip to G. Tech last weekend.
And Drew, you are truely my hero for finding a way to insert a Stripes reference.
