Was Pete there this time? Last year he didn't realize the fat man waddled over until he was told so. And was little tuna's son in tow, or was he as far removed from his old man as he was on the sidelines after Cushing returned the onsides kick for a TD?

This fat man sures likes to get attention. He should get on the treadmill everytime ND looses to SC :)

Charlie Weis is a classy individual and a real competitor who has the utmost respect for USC, the rivalry, etc. The fat jokes are stupid and uncalled for.

paul morantz said:

The above put down on Weis and his son is uncalled for.

TrojanHorse said:

my guess is Charlie heard there were free cheeseburgers in the SC locker room

PH55 said:

Charlie definitely has class and respects the rivalry. We give him a rough time because of his weight and he's a rival but I wish him the best (except against SC of course.)

JJH4USC said:

Did he congratulate Desmond Reed on his healthy recovery?

Drew said:

Charlie should get used to walking over in defeat, because the Irish are not going to get better any time soon.

TROJANALUM said:

Ya. And he'll have to keep going over to the victor's locker room as long as Pete is coaching USC. Keep the tradition alive Weis!

William said:

don't care really what any of you say but i think that weis class act ... brutal game for him personally and his team (both years) and he comes over to congratulate pete.

MD said:

Charlie's fat, we get it. Dude's also a class act -- you lose like they did last year, then go congratulate Leinart and the guys and tell them you hope they win it all? Got to respect that -- and just one of the reasons USC-Notre Dame outshines USC-UCLA.

I'm not so sure about how "classy" Weis really is. Before last year's game he was telling anybody who would listen that he was going to "own" Pete Carroll - and I doubt he put it quite that gently. Something tells me what he really said was something about Carroll being his beyotch, and the remark got sanitized so it would not be censored.

The comments about his weight and his children out of line, especially given his history. Weis has a developmentally disabled daughter, and he nearly died in 2002 from a botched gastric bypass. From Wikipedia:

Charlie and Maura have two children, Charles Joseph and Hannah Margaret. In 2003, Weis and his wife Maura established the Hannah & Friends Foundation, dedicated to children affected by developmental disorders and named after his daughter. In the spring of 2004, the first annual Hannah & Friends Celebrity Golf Classic was held to benefit the foundation.

Charlie Weis has filed a malpractice suit against five Massachusetts General surgeons who performed a gastric bypass operation that went awry in 2002.

Weis was in a coma for two weeks and received last rites from a priest after he suffered excessive bleeding, septic shock, adult respiratory distress syndrome and ongoing leg problems as a result of care at MGH that his lawsuit charges "fell below the accepted standards."

Weis weighed over 300 pounds and had tried Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, the Atkins Diet, the Cabbage Soup diet and many other weight-loss schemes when he finally opted for the radical stomach-stapling surgery as a last resort.

Weis said his father died at age 56 after a second heart attack and he feared he would suffer a similar fate if he didn't take drastic action to reduce his weight.

The surgeons' attorneys said the fact that Weis has kept his weight off and helped lead the Patriots to two Super Bowl wins might be taken as evidence the surgery was effective.

He was a roommate of Terry Eurick while at Notre Dame.

Charlie, born in Trenton NJ, has 1 older sister and 3 younger brothers, one of whom attended West Point.

I can agree that the fat jokes are uncalled for, but that sweatshirt did not help! It should've been vetoed by his wife, asst. coach, close friend, somebody for crying out loud....

Show some class! There is no reason for anyone to attack the MAN. Do all you want as a coach, but do not represent USC in this manner!

LarryR said:

Sorry, Charlie. Get used to it.

Let's ask Desmond Reed's drop-foot if the FAT MAN respects SC and the rivalry. Is that what you call respect, putting a player's health in jeopardy in the name of giving your team an advantage? Call a spade a spade.

Ed the Vet said:

WEIS is a top notch guy and shows respect which is lacking from some of you who post on this site. ND has been one of our top and most respected opponents for years. However many of you do not know what courtesy is.

SCSPILK said:

Remember to show class, Weis is a great coach, no need to be mean about his weight.

PCB said:

I fully expect Jabba to have ND competing with SC again within the next 3 years. Let's face it, the cupboard was pretty bare (by ND standards) when he took over and he has turned around Irish recruiting. They are getting 4 and 5 star athletes again. We need to enjoy the good times while they are happening. Then again, with Pete in control at SC, it's a lot like those years when Holtz patrolled the sidelines at ND....only in reverse.

Viva THE Rivalry!

Felipe said:

To all those defending the man saying he is a class act:

Do you think that Rockne, Leahy, Holtz and Parseghian would have ever resorted to cruel tactics to win a football game?

These professional coaches knew how to win straight up.
I believe we all should drop the fat jokes but calling the man a class act shows your ignorance.
These last two years were a lesson in humility for Charlie Weis.

Weis is a clown, and a gutless one at that.

As some cry about his personal tragedies, and bemoan personal insults, have they considered the fact that his personal tragedies were not the result of anyone's bad decisions? How about HIS decision to grow the grass long last year, which cost Desmond Reed so much? Are we allowed to disrespect Weis for that?

And what about his obviously cowardly lie in saying that the grass was NOT intentionally so long... Does he earn disprespect for that?

What about the fact he has not won a single big game at ND?

Do we judge Weis by his self-serving oral statements or by his actions and results?

Wailing about inappropriate remards to poor ole Charlie is ridiculous.

He, like is team, is vastly over-rated.

Let's see how ND does in its bowl game this year... not hard to predict that their bowl losing streak (SINCE 1995!) will continue through 2007.

As to his weight and his botched bypass.... some might say he has a deep personal issue there... he does seem to be very unhealthy, and I don't wish that on anybody, but he did look completely ridiculous on the sideline Saturday.

let's forget Ole Charlie, and focus this week on Karl Dullard (thank you TJ Simers for that one).
