After this game was over..halftime...I took a few looks at ACLU's ass whuppin at the hands of Cal. The thing that I most noted was Cal's #36 Storer..a big fast smart dominating fullback who was blowing holes in the ACLU line opening up canyons for Lynch and Forsett to run though....Sure must be nice to have one of those eh?

I'm happy, the Trojans played beatifully for 4 quarters!
Even against lowly Stanford.
My comment for next weeks game against Oregon is they were not able to put up a goose egg against Stanford.
Our defense will stop Oregon now that we ditched that pitiful 3-4 elephant defense.

it was stanford buddy what did you expect

Our offense still looked out of whack in the third quarter. We only scored 2 TD's in the second half. Good game for the defense though.

great victory but am still unconvinced Booty is
the best for us at QB after watching the quick
feet and fine arm of Sanchez during mopup time
against Stanford. yes, it was against Stanford, and I realize Booty has waited his
turn, and Pete won't go back on his commitment to Booty, but I hate to have to wait this season and next until Sanchez can start. he gives us so much more scoring pizzazz and quick-strike capability.

Booty is still the guy, but when is he going to stop focusing on his primary receiver and take more looks at all of his options when passing? I know the game was in hand when Sanchez took over, but I noticed immediately that Sanchez was looking right then throwing left and vice-a-versa. Sanchez seems to have more passion at quarterback than Booty. Booty just seems ho hum going about his business.

Mark and Clemdiggity -- you are both just ignorant and blinded by who-knows-what. How do you diss a QB who going into this game was 2nd in the Pac-10 in passing efficiency, and now has 19 TD's and only 5 picks? Sc's problem is not Booty. I've said it a million times and I will say it again - it's youth. Only 6 seniors on their two-deep roster. And it's an inconsistant Jarret who shows up one game and doesn't the next. And maybe that's because of his injury. Nevertheless, quaterbacking is not this team's problem.
Geez, I come back here to check out comments after a 42-0 win and I see the most ludicrous comments by spoiled Sc children. Try being a Bruin fan in this town, guys... see how that feels this year.

Scoring pizazz? In mop up time against the second stringers on Stanford's already pitiful D? I'm not saying he's garbage but come on Booty's been doing his part. Now that they opened up the O he looks a lot more confident.
If Booty has games like this against Oregon, Cal, ND and UCLA he should be in the Heisman discussions... 19 TDs - 5 ints nothing to scoff at.
I knew Sanchez doing well would bring out the Sanchezistas. He is a fine QB and will be nails in 2 years. Remember he is still only a redshirt freshmen.

Seriously, JDB is the one guy you can NOT blame for USC's sluggishness. You can blame runningbacks that don't protect the ball and don't run hard on every play. You can blame receivers who don't run the right routs, don't fight for positioning, and who drop passes. You can blame some of the offensive line for stupid penalties. You can blame it on injuries to our entire corp of fullbacks. You can blame it on the offensive coordinator and some occasionally stupid playcalling. Just stop blaming a first year starter playing QB. He's not been perfect, but what QB is?

I particular enjoyed the 4th quarter. Its about time Sanchez and crew got some airtime. Next time hopefully, they will get in a little earlier. You can just see and feel the speed of this offensive unit and the Defense was not bad either.
Fight ON!

I'm completely shocked anyone would knock Booty.
That's all I have to say about that.

Now, Ray, don't get your panties all in a bunch - I just pointed out the obvious... Get the party started because as good as JD can be, his momentary lack of accuracy leaves you shaking your head - admit it...
And, sadly, I agree with pretty much everything posted - it is youth and inexperience and inconsistency and... we are spoiled. No doubt about it... UCLA? - heck, try being an Arizona fan and eeking out 1 or 2 wins a year...
It was nice to see the D have a decent game and come to play...

Actually, I do have a couple comments/questions:
1. It was in the most worthless minutes I've ever seen in the game but Stafon Johnson was given touches. I know Gable wasn't 100% but does this mean he's out of Pete Carroll's doghouse?
2. I noticed on WeAreSC that Broderick Green is now listed as a Soft Verbal when he was listed as a commit before. Anyone know what's going on with that one?

What can you say? Hey they beat basically a D-IAA team. They would probably beat Wofford pretty bad, too.
Probably was a bad thing cause now they will return to thinking they are USC of 2003 and expect Oregon to just lay down for them...

"a big fast smart dominating fullback who was blowing holes in the ACLU line opening up canyons for Lynch and Forsett to run though....Sure must be nice to have one of those eh?"
Yes it would be nice. Unfortunately the top two who would be blowing holes open are hurt and done for the year. Did you want Coach Carroll to grab one off the waiver wire? Give it a rest.
And to all Sanchez promoters. Do you really want to take garbage time average play and make statements that starting him will be the answer to all our problems?
Oh but he plays with so much excitement.
Carson Palmer was pretty unemotional but seemed to have a pretty good career. Lay off Booty morons!

Hey PH55,
The fullback comment is a legitimate one. USC has not been recruiting blocking fullbacks for years now. They usually recruit fullbacks who can catch out of the backfield, while blocking is secondary to their skills. That's why SC is using Thomas Williams because he is large and can hit someone to create some holes for the RB.

63 straight points. How far can we go before the string is broken?
Posted by: Larry R | November 6, 2006 04:38 PM
I agree with Eddie HOA about the lack of blocking fullbacks recruited. But It's hard to find someone just the right build even if you're looking for one. There's only one FB of note listed in next years crop and only five RB's that are the right weight. We have two of them in Marc Tyler and Broderick Green but they're too good to just be used as blockers.
It's kind of a double-edged sword. Getting the top recruits is what you need but none of them are eager to take a spot that won't get them a highlight reel or exposure as NFL material. Havili willing to do so without dragging his feet shows character.
From what I remember there was another freshman this year who refused to even consider it until he was told that's how Marcus Allen started.
Converting the faster LB's is the next logical step.
..maybe that's what they should do with Rey.
I'm kidding about the Rey thing ..mostly.
