I really think that the how much did USC FB bring in also needs to be stated as well

So it spent $1.42M per win while UW spent about $7.5M per win.. did they have two wins???

Huskies 2nd? That's money NOT well spent then...

This leads to the next question.

How much does Oregon State spend on its football team that beat USC?

And their return on investment was???

Money well spent.

Michael R. said:

That investment brought in a lot more money that supports all the other athletic departments.

Okay, so? What was USC's profit margin in comparison to other PAC-10 schools? That's the more relevant statistic. You've got to spend money to make money.

It looks like Willingham is moving and shaking his program and has it poised to make something out of his investment next season.

...And our football income was???

tonycal said:

With six sellouts last year it cost approximately $32 per ticket to cover the $17.2 millon. And I am sure the rest of the money is going into the other sport programs and possibly developing new division 1 programs such as softball, field hockey, and ice hockey.

What did UCLA spend? $99.00?

Let's hear it for Title 9!

Dear Mike Garrett:

2 Questions:

1. Where does an 800 pound Gorilla sleep?
AnyWHERE he wants.

2. How much should you pay Pete Carroll?
WHATEVER he wants. Period. And definitely more than Charlie Weis.

Think about more than just ticket costs...my gosh! I'm sure we get a cut of concessions, the bookstore sells merchandise out the wazoo around the stadium, there's the television and radio contracts, the licensing fees for use of USC logos alone is due in large part to the success of the football program. The income that could be attributed to the football program is likely 3-4 times our investment.

Thanks, Pete!!!

What is greater the sale of Bush and Leinhart jerseys or 17.2 Million?

SummerN said:

The football team's costs last year came to $17.2 million and the team generated $28 million. However, the athletic department's budget came out to $65 million.

So the football team is hardly bankrolling all the other sports or paying the bills of all the athletic department's staff.

JJH4USC,

Perhaps when you think about all of the licensing agreements USC has allowing companies to market merchandise with USC registered trademarks on them we can talk...it's definitely in the multi-million dollar arena.

Think big picture

I would guess that P10 football allocations from the Bowl Games are close to 3M right there, knock out the expenses for the bowl games which are reimbursed and you get even more
