New Digs
If you did not make the trip, the new Stanford Stadium is quite a gem for the Pac-10. It's intimate and is perfectly shaped for football. It's amazing they built it in less than a year.

I cant believe they finally rushed the ball on fourth down and 1 (I guess Lane finally learned something after!)

It sounds like a small "Theatre of Dreams."

From a Bay Area Trojan, thats the best football stadium Ive ever been in, for what it is, a stadium for 50k or so. Great Job Stanford, thank you Arriaga or whatever that guys name is. We all owe you a debt of gratitude.

Best stadium in the Pac-10 . . . by far. I wish USC had a bigger version of this stadium.

Interesting they can build a facility in 9 months for $90M, that seats around 50,000. Why does the coliseum commission think it would cost $800-$1B to rebuild a new coliseum?
Posted by: TMB | November 5, 2006 01:19 PM
Because Stanford used private donors while the political wonks on the colisseum commission are looking to steal grant money and/or bond (ie tax) money.

Flew in for the game, a super stadium, amazing all the empty seats for an SC game.

I really enjoyed the inside of this stadium, nice seats, great views (SE Corner) but the concession configuration outside the stadium, at least in our corner was just pathetic.

they still won't win any games

TMB, are you sure they built the stadium for $90 Million? Thats less than our basketball arena. We better locate their contractor if this is true.

The $90 million figure is approx, that's a great deal compared to the Coliseum estimates. I suppose the modifications to the Coliseum would be more extensive?
From http://www.stanfordstadium.com/about/overview.html:
The re-building of Stanford Stadium will cost approximately $90 million. The project is being funded by the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) Investment Fund and from friends of Stanford University who are passionate about the program and understand our vision for the stadium. As a result, the new stadium will be completed without incurring any long-term debt.
