Strange Bedfellows
There were a couple UCLA fans sharing a flight to San Francisco with about 12 USC fans (mostly sorority girls) on Friday with the Trojans and Bruins playing in the Bay Area today. When the UCLA fans found out they were not sitting next to the sorority girls, one of them said, ``Thank God, I didn't want to sit next to Laguna Beach.''

How classy.

I don't get it.

They probably preferred sitting next to San Francisco.
By the way Scott, good job on your glorious Mountaineers! Number one all the way!

When the USC fans were originally assigned to sit by the UCLA fans they asked to move.
Posted by: ron jeremy | November 4, 2006 08:22 AM
Huh?
That's the best news you have the before the game?
And they didn't want to sit next to some sorority girls? Wow, that Seinfeld line is certainly applicable here, not that there's anything wrong with it...

Just goes to show what the sexual preference is at UCLA!

What a couple of morons, got the chance to party with some sorority girls and they pass up!
Just goes to show what sexual preference is taught at UCLA.

so what are they saying? the public school kids are jealous of the rich kids? nothing new.
Posted by: Dan | November 4, 2006 10:25 AM
I think the sorority girls could have made the same comment about most UCLA "male" fans.

Scott, are you serious with this post? What does this have to do with anything?
Posted by: scguy | November 4, 2006 12:05 PM
HAHA. More evidence that most ucla fans are gay.
Posted by: charles | November 4, 2006 01:10 PM
Whatever, elitist WestSiders.
Try getting some black and latino students to school next year, like USC.

Most of your rich kids got denied from UCLA..that's why it's the Univ. of Second Choice.
Posted by: ReelBruin | November 4, 2006 03:26 PM
Actually people go to ucla instead of usc because they can't afford the tuition. ie you're poor and you stink of middle class.
Posted by: dan | November 4, 2006 08:02 PM
Perchance our intrepid reporter sat next to the sorority girls? You know, as an "investigative journalist."
Posted by: SeaTrojan | November 4, 2006 09:33 PM
Actually Bruin man, we have some sad news for you.
Last year USC's freshman incoming class had a higher GPA and higher SAT scores than the incoming UCLA class.
While we have just pants you in football the past 7/8 years we are now kicking your ass academically. This past year UCLA was ranked 25th in the PRinceton review while USC was ranked 26th. After another year of Steven Sample's leadership we will be past you there as well.
Lastly USC's APR score for its football team graded out at 945(with early entries) which was ahead of UCLA's as well.
Just bad news all around for UCLA. George Lucas donates 171 million for a film school at USC while I am sure UCLA got a donation from Domino's since that is where they will be getting most of their delivery drivers.

ReelBruin...I know you are not reading this...or should not be...because God only knows that I would NEVER read the UCLA blog...BUT US News and World Report ranked USC as the #19 academic school in the country...right ahead of UCLA #20...so who got denied???

The average income of a family sending it's kids to USC is about even with that of a family sending it's kids to UCLA. USC has a good blend of high, middle and low income student while UCLA hovers around the middle class. These facts do not make either school better than the other.
Because USC is a private institution and it's Alumni donate such a generous amout of money, 'SC has the ability to give out a very large number of scholarships to specific groups as opposed to most of the other Pac-10 schools.
I'm not knocking any of the other schools for that; public schools have certain state regulations to which they must adhere and Stanford doesn't have the Alumni resources that we do.
Of course there are students at 'SC that are the basis for the shallow U. of Spoiled Children stereotype but there is a very large amount of students that do not.
Both work hard to be accepted and to graduate; both should be insulted by people insinuating that either they have not earned their place or don't even exist.
As is obvious by some of the posts above, this arguement brings out the worst in individuals supporting both schools.
I don't know the reasons behind starting this thread but I honestly hope that none of us continue it in a hurtful way.

Dan - Ain't nobody poor over here. Trust me, you work for me, not the other way around.
I went to UCLA because people like you, who actually think that saying "you're poor and stink of middle class" makes you cool, go to USC. You are a tragedy of a human being. I'm certain most of your fellow USC fans find that type of comment embarassing.
The reality is, when people ask me about USC, I tell them it is an excellent academic institution thanks to Pres. Sample (in the 90s it was not). I compliment everything about your university except your sports teams, and fans like you who have no class.

"Stanford doesn't have the Alumni resources that we do"--are you kidding? Stanford's endowment is the fifth biggest in the country, over $10 billion, which happens to be about 4 times USC's. USC is nowhere near Stanford in academic reputation or cash.

Who gives a crap what FUCLA fans think

I knew it was a phoney story when you said a few UCLA fans....too many Scott. Next time start the story. Ran into the one odd UCLA fan......
As Will F would say.....Dear Baby Jesus, please Karl Dullard around for a few more seasons.

To Michael R. , I do agree with what you've stated, as I am sure many others also do. The income of one's family is trivial, when it comes to class and dignity of one's upbringing, and God knows it is nourished in ALL classes. Education is the source to economic freedom, and one thing for sure, is that USC's doors are opened to all who choose to enter them, no matter what RACE or gender one belongs to...Fight On SC, dignity and grace always!!!

This is my first time to visit your blog site and probably my last if the blogs posted Nov 04 are typical.
I like to think that the input from you and many responders is not indicative of the intellect of most UCLA and USC students and gratuates. Get out of the gutter and stimulate themes worth discussing.
