Strike Up The Band

For the first time in years, the Notre Dame band, or at least 75 members, will make the trip to the USC game.
``Actually I tried to get them all to go,’’ Irish coach Charlie Weis said. ``At late notice, we couldn't get that many spots in the stadium. I think I was very appreciative of both the band, Father Poorman, everyone involved in getting at least the pep band to go. USC did work with us, come up with 75 spots where we could go.’’
We wonder if Notre Dame band director Ken Dye, a USC graduate, will be allowed to direct the Trojan band during the national anthem, a courtesy he extends every two years to Spirit of Troy director Art Bartner.

Thank goodness...this was the missing piece to this game...the 'real' ND band.

Having the Notre Dame High School (Sherman Oaks, CA) band for a few years was a band-aid.

Next step: Bring the whole damn thing in '08!

I do not know why USC couldn't accomodate the Irish band and find enough seating for the entire band. The band could easily be placed on the concrete slabs of the peristyle right below the Heisman jerseys and directly behind Trojan Nation.

Wasn't Father Poorman the morning man at KROQ 106.7 in LA for years? I believe he also co-hosted the LOVELINE readio show with Dr. Drew Pinsky for years. The guy has disappeared but I had no idea he joined the Priesthood.

With only 92,000 seats in the stadium, seems as though it would be very difficult to come up with 75 extra seats, even with long notice. Remember when 50,000 was a lot of people in the Coliseum to watch out team? How times have changed. Didn't I hear Cardinal and Gold was sold out?

I am sure the ND baby band would enjoy sitting between #3, #11 and #5 in the Peristyle end. Then they can experience the aura of the players that single handedly humiliated their heroes in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and #10 and #8 up close and personal in 2006.
