Surprise Call
A USC player spoke to a starter on Oregon State's defense immediately after the game ended Saturday and the first thing the Beaver player said was, ``We thought you guys were going to run the ball again.''

About Inside USC
Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC
graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for
the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet
message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this
moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in
antagonizing the "Internet geeks."

This comment can be taken as.....Trojans had them guessing and fooled or OSU was afraid they were going to be run over again, giving up the two points.....
At this point in the game OSU couldn't stop the run.....
Did the OSU player say thank you?
which means that it was a good call to pass rather than run, simply because they were expecting it and ready for it.
the specific play that was called, however, is up to debate. maybe a pass action would've been better.
If that was the case, then Kiffin had the right idea. OSU had 9 guys in the box. That is the time to throw...when they expect a run! The execution was crap, and that PARTICULAR play call may have been suspect. If OSUs defensive end would have rushed up field, we may have been in overtime. He did not, and the game was over. To say Sam Baker should have taken the guys legs out is not right either. If you set up expecting the man to come at you hard, and he doesn't, readjusting in the time it takes for JDB to take a 3 step drop is not realistic. Should we have rolled Booty out? Maybe. The problem is, the only time I can remember JDB on a rollout is that play action going one way, JDB goes the other, and usually hits the tight end at about the line of scrimmage. Do we HAVE another rool out play to run? It might be nice to see...
FIGHT ON and beat Stanfurd!
If this refers to the the 2pt conversion it is a plus for Kiffin, ie. he had OSU fooled looking for a run when he called a pass
They all thought the Trojans would run.
That sounds like a pretty good reason to throw.
How do you do?
This statement supports NOT running (Booty said he changed the pass play to run on the fisrt two-point conversion because the run was open but not on the second try).
I personally would have liked Craig Fertig's view and paper with John Robinson on successful 2-point conversions: put the ball on the left hash; 3 wide receivers to the right and roll out Booty to the right to either pass or run the ball in.
In any event, Kiffin called a pass play that was correct in that Oregon State defense expecting run.
Other run-pass play would be to fake the dive over center with Washington and then have a naked bootleg with Booty rolling out to either pass or run.
Student body right, (Smith's side) with an option to throw might have been nice. We'll never know, will we? DJ can only catch balls no where near him. The ones directly at him are not clean catches.
uhhhhh. Newsworthy?
Which is exactly why they didn't.
In reference to John Robinson and two-point conversions, the last one I remember of any consequence he called was when the ND streak was broke; it was a run with Delon Washington.
That being said, passing was a good idea by Kiff on the second 2pt conv attempt but I think a better play could have been called.
No...that would have been too logical
