Tailback Trust

One of the goals the rest of the season is to get tailback Emmanuel Moody to trust the play and let things develop. When former tailback Reggie Bush used to be asked by coaches on the sideline why he cut or reacted a certain way on plays, he usually said, ``I don't know.''
Bush relied on instinct. Moody is similar in that respect, but Bush's unique talent allowed him to get away with it more than most tailbacks.

Uh oh 2 Patricks on here...time to get another nick. :)

Moody needs to relax and gain some experience. I think he is trying for a 50 yd TD run every play. That's admirable but not going to happen. 7 yards is OK too.

What happened to CJ Gable, by the way? Did he fall out of favor, and if so, why? He was not flashy, but he was steady and seemed to at least get positive yards without the threat of a fumble.

Personally, I respect what Chauncey Washington and his parents did to keep him in school. It's a noble thing, and a great example to others. But, I find the coaches' infatuation with Chauncey's running ability to be unwarranted. He's neither a bulldozer like LenDale, nor a jet fighter like Reggie. Moody shows the signs of a jet fighter.

This is a down year for SC, anyway. Let the freshmen play. Get them ready for next year, when the opportunity to really be in a the national championship discussion might be there.

I like Moody for a lot of reasons. I think he has many talents and will prove to be better than Reggies Bush, especially when Moody gets drafted to the NFL.

I think Moody just needs to come to the realization that many of the top recruits end up doing, as well as NFL rookies. Things are not as easy as they were last year. As soon as he is able to gauge his new level of competition he'll be fine.

Two Patricks. That explains a lot.

All great tailbacks at USC have gone through a period where they looked to go all the way on every play and thus danced about. All eventually got over it.

Manny will be OK. I think the worst thing a kid can do during the season is worry. Once they do that, they are no longer instinctive. Thus, their impact is seriously reduced. Running the ball, as Reggie Bush proved, relies heavily on instincts. Just let the darn kid play. Off-season is the time to work on fundamentals, not during the season. It's like trying to develop a jump shot overnight. That doesn't happen, but during off-season. Let the freshmen play a little playground ball. All I would tell him at this stage of the season is keep the ball wrapped up with both arms and run to daylight KID! Run like you know how...Run Forrest, Run...

If there are 2 Patricks...
Patrick #1 must be sitting at the Rose Bowl.

Fight On!

I think what they are referring to here is Moody habit of cutting back, even when he was running well earlier in the year on his long runs he would cut back allowing the defenders to catch him sometimes. A lot of times the running lane will be to the outside and he cuts back inside of his blocking and gets tackled. Once he learns to read his blocks better and loose the cutting back on all plays method he will do fine. Reggie Bush was able to cut back sometimes, but he rarely cut back on long runs he just flat out ran them, Moody doesn't have Reggie's speed.

I think that Moody is still not accustomed to the speed of the game yet. In high school he could juke n jive in the backfield all he wanted and then still find the hole or just outrun most defenders to the outside. Now he's got to learn to get into the hole before trying to extend the run.

Stafon john son is the real deal we need to see him in more action i gurantee he will have at least a 100 yards a game i played with him at dorsey he kicks ass he runs people over he is big and fast

RE: Patrick

SOMEONE DIDN"T TAKE THEIR PROZAC THAT MORNING!

Patricks #1 - #6 ???

In regards to your incessant posting, I never thought I'd say this...I MISS REDCORN AND EFTSOONS !!!

Remember; Desmond Reed was supposed to be THE MAN this year, fast, great moves, a legitimate miniature Reggie. But that Michelin Man wannabe in South Bend saw to it that Reed became just a shadow of his former self. Desmond has the heart the size of a horse's, but the cuts and elusiveness are gone...maybe forever. Nice goin' Fat Bastard.

BUUUuuueeet. Did you soil yourself ? Maybe. Wafting, Wafting...
