The New Math

USC knows the stakes the final four games, especially if it loses another Pac-10 game.
``If we don't win the Pac-10, the second place team goes to the Holiday Bowl,'' defensive end Lawrence Jackson said. ``I can't really think about that.''

Does it get worse than that??
oh yeah, El Paso.. shoot if we fall that far, I'd rather go to Las Vegas than El Paso

Clark Kent said:

Yes, I agree wit TrojanHorse.

Definitely would want Vegas over El Paso. If we're going to go to a second tier bowl game, all us fans might as well hope for a fun place to go.

I know there are thousands like me who would choose Las Vegas Bowl over Holiday, Sun, or whatever else there is below the Rose Bowl.

Of course they all know where they might end up, as a result of winning/losing. It is a lousy post, "The New Math".

Any athlete worth their salt will understand the ramifications of winning or losing.

A Division I athlete always wants the ultimate prize, a National Championship, reagrdless of sport or school.

I'm glad that LoJack is so aware of the ramifications of not winning the Pac 10. I wonder if he's also this aware that he has yet to even get a sack this season? Maybe, just maybe a few of those sacks might lead to USC victories down the stretch.

Obviously you guys dont know what you are talking about.
If the Big east only gets one bid (say 12-0 rutgers) then 11-1 Louisville or 10-2 West Virginia will get an invite to the Sun.
8-4 USC versus any of those teams is better than 8-4 USC versus BYU who lost to Arizona.
Heck I rather play Missouri in the Sun than BYU in the Vegas Bowl.
If we dont get the Sun I rather go play FSU or Miami in the Emerald Bowl.
Here or the potential teams we could play in the Bowl we could goto.
1 Rose = Michigan, Ohio State
2 Holiday = Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska (Hope not)
3 Sun = Texas A&M, Missouri, West Virginia, Rutgers, Louisville
4 Vegas = BYU.
5 Emerald = FSU, Miami, Clemson
6 Hawaii = Hawaii

First choice BCS Title Game
Second Rose
Third Holiday
Fourth Sun (would be 3rd for sure if they played WVU or Louisville)
Fifth Emerald

Would love to see
USC vs. OSU
USC vs. Texas A&M
USC vs. Louisville
USC vs. Miami or FSU

Who's Lawrence Jackson? Has he done something this year? It's tough to recognize him when he looks like a fat pig. His mind is at an NFL combine already

Jeff from CANADA said:

It's not right, and it's the fault of the Pac 10 that the 2nd place team from the conference goes to the Holiday Bowl... I believe that the top 3 teams from the Big 10, for example, will all play on New Year's Day.

Bill said:

Jackson should just keep his mouth shut since he hasn't done anything on the field this year but get blocked out of plays. If his attitude is common among the SC players if they don't get to a BCS game they probabaly won't even show up for the game..ie, bet the opponent in that game. These players need to stop worrying about the bowl game and worry about Oregon who is very capable of beatingthem.

It is a sad state when the Rose Bowl suddenly is a consolation prize. That is effectively what the BCS has done. I still don't understand why after all the bowl games are played, there is not one final vote to determine the two best teams in the nation, and then have JUST ONE final game. Thus, there would never be a controversial "national" champion . The university presidents are such hypocrites, adding on a 12th game this year, and yet stating on the record that they don't want the student-athletes to be over-taxed with playoff games. Please, gentlemen, spare me!
