How about Sven Goran Eriksson? Nice try, Wolf, trying slip that one past us...

Why does everyone think this is a USC football blog. It isn't. It is a blog covering USC athletics generally. Every time there's something about basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc., there is always a comment to the effect that it doesn't belong here. If you're not interested in soccer, skip the entry.

Having said that, is this a joke? Why would Carlos Queiroz leave Manchester United to come to USC?

Munro said:

Oh my! How wonderful would that be? Iain Dowie would be THE ANSWER for University Park!

But a big no on Carlos. We need him to stay put.

Wolf must be preparing for the HUGE game (Manchester United vs. Chelsea) this week and getting a little tipsy.

Let's hope table-topping "red" trumps wishful "blue" all weekend!

GO RED DEVILS!

(Down with Celtic, as well)

Is this supposed to be funny?

I think the Pope is a candidate to lead the University Church.

Can we get Neil Warnock for pure entertainment value?

To those who are curious:

Ian Dowie was recently sacked as manager of Charlton Athletic, a Premiership side located in South London, which is having a Stanford-type year and may be relegated to a lower division.

Carlos Queiroz was sacked a couple of years ago by Real Madrid (you know, that club where David Beckham warms the bench); he is now an assistant to the evil Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, which is nervously preparing for upcoming matches against Celtic, and mighty Chelsea (Chelsea is the back-to-back champion of the English Premiership, the top professional soccer league in Europe).

Alan Pardew has not been fired recently. He manages West Ham, which lost to Chelsea last Saturday, in a London derby played at Stamford Bridge, 1-0.

And while I am here, I might as well make a few predictions for the big match next Sunday at Old
Trafford (is there a New Trafford?): Chelsea 3, Manchester United 1; Drogba to net two, and Rooney to survive the match without breaking any bones in his foot.

We get it. You're one dimensional. Now shut up while those of us that have interests outside of just football can get information on the other sports.

deric said:

Chelsea 2
UTD 0

Drogba is the class player in the Premiership this season and will prove it in this game. UTD's defense has been relatively untested, and Van Der Saar is an unexposed weak link.

Munro said:

deric,

Since you know so much, please report to us all the last time Manchester United allowed a goal in an Premiership game at the Theatre of Dreams. Warning: you'll have to dig backwards for quite a while.

Keep dreaming about that 2-0 score lad.

At least the Jose-loving, hate-spewing mikeg gave the Reds the benefit of one goal in his equally ridiculous prediction.

dbmitch,

No need to get chippy, my friend. I honestly don't know enough about the three people Scott listed to know whether or not he was joking. So, I bit. That's all. Other people here understood that. Why not you?

I do know enough to be of the opinion that Amy Rodriguez didn't come to USC so we could get bounced in the first or second round of the tournament every year. I have a friend who played women's soccer for Santa Clara, and I know how shocking their loss to us in the first round was to them. The win could have been a defining moment for our program, but in Henry Bibby fashion, it was wasted. So, I'm glad we're looking for a new coach.

If you misunderstood the humor in my posts about basketball, that's not my fault. Other USC fans get and appreciate the sarcasm.

Most of all, if you think I'm going to shut up ... that ain't gonna happen. In fact, if you don't mind I'd like to write a post on my blog about your silly comment here. I know a lot of Trojans who would get a good laugh out of it.

Of course, I won't write about you unless I have your permission. Get it? LOL.

Well Tom......

Because he's getting his arteries clogged from eating all of that deep fried in lard fish and chips and hagis and kidney pie and that crusty pudding like shit that accompanies everything from a brit kitchen.
the brew is warm, the fish is greasy and they dont' even know how the hell to describe a game. Side means team, pitch means the fu$#@%g field, nil means they couldnt score in a whore house with a thousand dollars, premiership means the American League, relegated means you suck and the most action i've seen from that Euro futbol bullshit was on a youtoob vidclip of a Brazillian jugadero taking a whiz on the field...Ho freakin Hum.. and I suppose that this Chelsea is really Drogba's nasty little sister. So...Man U!

The above is exactly why I love college football.

OK, that was a drunken rant...I like soccer, especially the EPL...and the WC. I respect our Wimmin's natl team, I have a total respect for a lot of Euro brew..and Dowie would rock in the NCAA..but realistically..that's certainly a huge reach.

Wolf,

Can we get Displaced Trojan displaced from your blog?

I don't know what's worse ... his consistently useless comments or that sickening link to his pathetic blog.

MEMO TO ALL: Don't click the link on his name ... stay away ... I made the mistake and paid the price ... don't do it.

Munro,

You just lost your street cred. Abedayor from Arsenal scored in the 86th minute this season (about 5 games ago in the Premiership) at the "Theatre of Dreams" to WIN 1-0. I believe this was Man U's only defeat of the season. Fabregas tore them up from midfield all game only to slot the ball into the penalty area after a cocky and careless showboat move by Ronaldo resulting in an ill-timed turnover. Thierry Henry, arguably the best player on the planet, didn't even play that game. HAH!!!

Go Gunners!!!!

deric said:

Henry saved Arsenal this past weekend - they are really struggling to stay near the top of the table.

Munro said:

Mike,

I never said United didn't allow a goal at home, I was just making the point that it has been a long time since that occured in league play and that deric's prediction of a 2-0 Chelsea win was foolish. I guess giving up your last goal at home way back in mid September apparently isn't good enough for you, but I'm sure Arsene Wenger would give his left you-know-what for those clean sheets.

Too bad your beloved Gunners can't play all their games at Old Trafford. Their play in 2006 has been lackluster, but especially at home in the new yard. Your lads can't even beat Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Everton and Newcastle at home! That's laughable! I guess your boys are having trouble playing on an accurately sized pitch.

Belated congratulations on your victory at Manchester United, too bad your team can't play well anywhere else and is 12 points behind the table topping Red Devils.

I guess you must have been referring to my "evil Sir Alex" comment, although if you manage a lot called the "Red Devils" that would seem to be definitional.

And yes I like a manager who has brought the Premiership trophy to SW6 two years running (expecially after it seemed so long a permanent Manchester possession, with the odd visit to Highbury from time to time), and whom I can understand without subtitles.

Ridiculous prediction? Well, we will see. I do remember a lot of talk after ManU's 1-0 win at OT last season about Sir Alex having found the key to beating Chelsea. Didn't hear much of that stuff after ManU's return to the Bridge (although it might have been drowned out by the Blues' trophy celebration).

Anyway, I hope it is a good game, and that we will all be watching it after celebrating a win by USC over the faux Irish.

FDOG,

I love you, too. Look for your "name" in an upcoming post on The Diplaced Trojan. You know you want to ...

LOL.

Munro,

Just want you to know that other people are up to date on the EPL. Yes it was mid Sept but 5 games was home and away, must have been only 2 or 3 at home. Arsenal 3 : Hamburg 1 tonite and Celtic 1 : Man United 0. Saha had a penalty kick in the 89th minute and failed. Walcott came on and saved the game in the last 15 minutes with speed and assists to Eboue and Baptista.

You're right, Arsenal has suffered at home but has played well. 12 pts down but 1 game in hand. Defensively, 7 goals conceded vs 6 for Man U. Once the Gunners stop trying to walk the ball into the goal, they will play better.

At least can we agree that Chelsea are a bunch of cry babies? The stunt they pulled getting Graham Poll ousted (after Terry's redcard and Cashley Cole's complaining after Tottenham debacle) from the Head Referee was only second to the circus and the Noukamp vs Barca.

Go Gunners!!!

FYI to all - game will be shown on FSC (Directv channel 613) on Sunday morning at 8:00am PST.

The 2-0 prediction is solid. I like Shevchenko for the second goal. If Ronaldo could come anywhere close to the target (even from point blank unmarked) I'd give UTD 1.

Better yet, I think we should all refer to you as "Dipsh*t Trojan" from now on.
