`This Is Not Texas'
Even Pete Carroll thought about the Rose Bowl when he went for it on fourth-and-2 against Cal, with John David Booty throwing a 37-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith.
``I felt good about our chances,’’ Carroll said. ``This wasn’t the Rose Bowl. It’s different. It’s not Texas. We were killing these guys.’’

I was thinking the Dream for Glendale stays alive
LET THE DESEAN JACKSON SMACKTALK START!
Hey DeSean, WOW! You put on great show at the Coliseum in front of your family, friends, GOD and everybody else watching. Getting knocked out early and being a COMPLETE NONFACTOR all game.
You acted like SOUR GRAPES ever since you signed on with CAL. How does it feel to know USC made the right choice in not recruiting your sorry butt!
FIGHT ON TROJANS, ND YOU ARE NEXT!
Coach Carroll has perhaps changed a lot of coaches' philosophy regarding the use of 4-downs instead of three. To give up the use of a possibly productive 4th down is to give up 25% of one's possibilities. That is a lot.
Looking at it logically, what does a team gain by punting when at the other team's 40-yard line?-- perhaps 20-yards on average. Versus going for it, and giving one a chance to score 3-points or 6-points. Sounds like a good bet to me!
That was the play Chow would have called on the 4th & 2 against Texass last yr, which would have sealed a victory.
Good thing Carroll learned from that. We got an easy TD.
Bring on the Domers.
Reign On...
Very strange. It seems like Pete says one thing to you, Scott, and something else to other reporters. On the Locker Room show last night on KSPN, Pete told J.J. that he wanted to punt and put the game in the hands of the defense which was playing well. Pete said it was Lane and Sark who urged him to go for it and called the play.
Yes....not Texas and this time not stupid. Mack saw play comming and had his defense sell out. Huff charged scrimmage and threw himself in gap. He gauarded no on. Only call that day was to put Bush motion right and take two defenders, fake to White to take care of linebackers and Matt go left. This was his play. The one he came back for. Why take the ball out of his Heisman's hands. He was owning 4th quarter. Smith draggs the middle. Tight end curls, fullback to flat and DJ does an out or flies ala ND. No one open Matt walks the two yards.
The proof came Saturdau. Again CAl sold out on run and SS found himself with blown coverage.
Wouldn't it be nice if Kiffen had seen the light a year earlier.
Or Paul..
He made the call this way this year because he learned from his mistake last year.
I don't even call it a mistake. White was moving almost at will going into that play, but Texas just made a great play.
In this game, realizing Cal might be looking for a similar play, Kiffen made the correct anticipation based on learning from experience and called an awesome play.
I'm not sure what annoys me more. People that won't let go of past mistakes (you sound like my wife, Paul), or people that don't realize that no matter how much talent you have, nothing beats experience.
As long as we learn from past mistakes and grow as players and coaches, I've got no problem with the players (Booty, etc.) or the coaches.
