A First For Carroll

| | Comments (8) |

Pete Carroll had never been shut out in the second half before Saturday. The last time USC failed to score in the second half was the 2000 game against Cal.
The last time USC rushed for 55 yards or less was in 2004 against Cal, when the Trojans had 41.

That '04 Cal game was also the last time USC had less than 15 first downs (12). I'm still not sure how they won that game.

Ultimately it is Pete's decision, but the majority of times we have come out in the second half 2006 with the offensive team getting the ball,..it ends up in a punt. Why bother making the choice to receive the kickoff in the 2nd half???,... Were any ADJUSTMENTS made by the offense from the 1st half to the 2nd??? Zero points in the 2nd half,... yep...gonna happen more often if Lame Lane stays. Man,.. Mr. Walker had Lame Lane's number! Lame is sooo predictable and stubborn,
changes from the 1st to the second half why??? we have better personnel why make a change??? One thing Norm did was see what the defense was doing,.and THEN figure out what our offense needed to do to succeed...
Mr. Carroll,.. please call your friend, apologize and tell him his son has got to go

Good for, Norm. Let's see how much yardage ole Norm can gain on a third and one. The reason he was able to pull off some of his calls depended upon the opposition realizing that SC could make a second and one or a third and one. You can't finesse them the entire game. If you're truly worthy of a #2 or #1 ranking you've got to be able to jam it down their throats at least once in a game.

Lane should stay, the bandwagon should get outta Dodge.

I'm still shaking my head from this game, the offense, and the play calling

I love all the Norm would have done this talk. Keep in mind that Norm had two Heisman quarterbacks and maybe the best all purpose back in collegiate history at his disposal. Lane had a 3rd string true freshman running back to work with.

Get realistic guys. We can't play for the national championship every year. If you would have told me 5 years ago that we would have 5 straight Pac 10 championships I would be stoked.

Still cant believe the arrogance of our offensive play calling. They have the best defensive ends int he country and we refused to give Baker and Williams any help in blocking them instead choosing to go with 5 wide receivers. Fred Davis was the only one who could get open and I'm sure the Bruins were fine with that.

Chauncey Washington can't get off the ball (even when he's healthy), C.J. lacks the explosiveness to break tackles for big plays, Emmanuel seems to lack the durability to be an every down back. Question is where is Stafon Johnson in all of this? This guy was the consensus number #2 running back in the country coming out of high school last year and Carroll refused to play him in the backfield for even one play this season. What was the point in recruiting him then. Can be possibly be worse then the three I mentioned above. Word is that he was demoted to the scout team because he couldn't read his blocking assignments. The same could easily be said for the others guys given what I witnessed in the loss to UCLA on Saturday. So why did Carroll recruit the Stafon in the first place. Who can ever answer that can also answer why he's stuck with such an inept offensive coordinator in Lane Kiffin. Hopefully Carroll will owe it to the SC fans in giving Stafon a shot in a gameday situation next year with the Rose Bowl being a possibility. We'd like to see what this kid is made of if anything because the running backs we have at SC are mediocre at best.

Raymond, its called "stacking". You recruit Stafon Johnson and more running backs than you need. Then, if they are not playing for you on the field, then at least they are not playing against you.
