Besting Bush?
According to Heisman expert Kari Chisholm at StiffArmTrophy.com, Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith will be ``the single biggest winner ever; besting Reggie Bush's 91.8% of the total vote in 2005. Our final numbers show Troy Smith picking up 2603 points - that's 94.0% of the 2772 possible.''

I think that says a lot more about the lack of Heisman-caliber talent in this year's field as opposed to the ability of Troy Smith. Bush racked up that percentage against Vince Young and Matt Leinart (two very worthy candidates). That, to me, is a much more impressive feat.

Simply a down year in college football. Never more evident than in the Heisman race. Ony significant factor is that Troy Smith was the one finalist that didn't have a chance to get beaten by SC. The other two were destroyed by SC.

Smith still received one less vote than Bush did among the total of all votes cast.

Please...Reggie competed against Matt that year (and a couple of no-names: Vince Young and Brady Quinn). Reggie would have slaughtered Troy Smith.

Doesn't matter. Bush will probably lose his Heisman anyways.

the fact that reggie bush blew out vince young is even funnier looking back after what happened in the rose bowl...when the two best teams went head to head it was painfully obvious (to SC fans) who the better college football player was...reggie's big game was at home against fresno state...vince had the greatest performance on the grandest stage with everything on the line...reggie should give the trophy back not because he and his parents are cheats and liars who spit in the face of the rules that everybody has to follow (whether those rules are right or wrong is not relevant) but because he just wasn't the best player in the country last year...the proof was laid out in front of all...not with a ballot filled out by media types but on the field...

Apparently, O.J. still holds the record for largest margin of victory, for whatever that's worth.

Just goes to show us how a handful of media sources control the influence of selection process these days. I didn't see one ESPN story on Colt Brennan this season. Troy Smith isn't even the best player on his team, quarterback in the country, let alone player in the country. His supporting cast got hin the trophy. And character should have something to do with being able to receive such an honor. Not much has been made of the scandals in which he's been involved other than the media saying he's had "challenges" and "he has made the most of second-chances." Rediculous that HE would be the top percentage vote-getter of all time. I'd take just about any of the previous winners over him except maybe Gino Toretto or Eric Crouch.
