Conventional Wisdom Watch
Whenever a team wins the crosstown rivalry in dramatic fashion, expect follow-up stories on how it will affect recruiting. The immediate answer in one case was no effect, as offensive lineman Kristofer O’Dowd of Tucson, Ariz., selected the Trojans over UCLA, who also coveted O'Dowd.
Maybe a better test will be Long Beach Poly cornerback Donovan Warren, who visits USC this weekend and UCLA next month.

why do these guys wait until after the season to visit?
better test? ucla is still a five loss team and nobody on its current roster has played in a BCS game. Kids aren't stupid, they look at the season and the past several years. One game does not a franchise make.
I believe it will take more than one win over USC to affect recruiting.
However, the Bruins do not have very many scholarships to offer for next year since they return a good portion of the team. Most of their recruits have already given oral commits.
The SC win probably just solidified the decision to commit.
Here’s a short list per Brian Dohn:
DE Akeem Ayers (Verbum Dei), LB Steve Sloan (Archbishop Mitty HS), TE Nate Chandler (Mira Mesa), QB Chris Forcier (St. Augustine), CB Courtney Viney (Edison), RB Raymond Carter (Crenshaw), DT Brian Price (Crenshaw).
Did anyone really think the bRuins would completely turn around their program off a fluke win against SC?
Despite the humbling loss, USC is still going to a 5th straight BCS bowl, will still be a top 5 team next year, has loads of top talent, and will compete for NC's for the foreseeable future.
Fucla on the other hand gets to enjoy a single big win and go to the emerald bowl. They still have Dullard and will always be 7-5.
Yeah, that's a tough choice.
The loss to UCLA was a shocking, and very disappointing moment for a team that certainly had the potential to play in the NC game.
Hopefully, recruits will see that the Trojan program still has the biggest upside in the country, with every one, from the AD on down, dedicated to producing a winning program year after year, and the best coach in college football.
The way that the Trojans seem to balance an extremely competitive program with creating a sense of "family" is truly unique.
Scott-why better versus just another test?
Seems like most of the Poly guys of the past few years have been highly overrated. The majority of those attending SC have had problems with the law or in the classroom and for the most part, have underachieved on the field. Too much attitude and not enough work ethic.
Well I am glad to see that miserable 13-9 loss hasn’t affected the building of USC’s 4th straight No. 1 recruiting class.

It doesn't happen that fast, Scott old man..it's not like all the top recruits this year jumped up and switched to UCLA..but next year..the year after...:)
The top LA kids will all be at UCLA within 3 years
Word is that Warren is locked up for UCLA after the game this year. USC has no idea how much they hurt themselves in that game. In Recruiting, Cali and Nationwide, in prestige, BCS points, polls next year..the list goes on and on..that loss vs. UCLA was just as bad as the loss vs. Vince "I got a 6 on my wonderlic" Young.
This was the make or break year for USC, everyone wanted to see if they could keep it up after the MattReggie show is gone...and obviously they could not.

I've come to expect ignorant and clueless comments from Bruins, but your comment is one of the dumbest yet. You call beating three top ranked teams in a row (Oregon, Cal and Notre Dame), another Pac 10 championship, and a trip to the Rose Bowl in a rebuilding year "not keeping it up?"
I realize UCLA's standards of excellence (7-5, no BCS bowl, no conference championship etc) are not on the same level as USC's, but come on - how can you justify this "thought?" Thankfully, your limited point of view is confined to the Bruin nation mentality.
I'm sorry but if I were a recruit, I'd go to a team with the best chance of going to the national title game.
UCLA does not offer that chance and 13-9 is not an impressive enough victory to ween recruits from USC.
13-9 means the UCLA offense was just good enough to win.
Last year's 66-19 bruin bashing was a recruiting statement!
UCLA is getting ahead of themselves in this ongoing crosstown struggle.
