Ignoring The Critics
USC coach Pete Carroll dismissed critics of quarterback John David Booty on Sunday night.
``Anyone who criticizes (Booty) was not paying attention to the game,’’ he said. ``We still threw the football well. He played as he played all year long. His numbers were fine. But the continuity wasn’t there.’’
Carroll attributed that problem to UCLA’s pass rush.
``They just took a lot of chances consistently and we were not picking them up,’’ he said. ``We made a lot of mistakes in picking stuff up, at fullback and tight end.''

Any mention of the lackluster game plan? When did Pete Carroll speak and to who?

The new turf gave him problems the entire game, he seemed to have lots of trouble setting his feet.

Nice. Throw Fred Davis, Dale Thompson and Thomas Williams under the bus.

Pete is 100% correct!! This loss wasn't Booty's fault - all the Booty haters should be redirecting to the coaches box! The O-Line deserves the blame on the field if you want/need to blame players.

Some draw plays, bubble screens, and even a few fades probably could have helped us make the bruins pay for all their blitzing. I think the O.C.'s have a big hand in the offensive struggles. The play calling didn't seem to address the fact they would getting pressure consistently.. We couldn't seem to admit that our offensive game plan wasn't working, and change things up..

All fine and dandy Pete.
Just make sure you open up competition for the QB starter next spring.

Statistically JD had a good game. But I'm not happy that his best two games have been defeats.
I recall Leinart's worst game was a ND-USC match up that's considered a classic.
The difference is that Matt did everything possible to win. Booty does 3 an out and shows no passion.

Could be worse. We could be Chicago Bears fans and have our starting quaterback finish a game with a 1.3 QB rating.

I think some of you need to watch the tape of the last 2 games, Thomas Williams I think is a great player and a good linebacker, but he is not a fullback, the safety where they tackled our running back in the end zone was because Thomas flat out did not block the guy who tackled the running back I think it CW. This week he missed some critical blocks on runs and I mean he flat out whiffed on one big play. We need to get a Fullback healthy for the Michigan game no doubt in my opinion. And let Thomas shine on special teams and defense where he's more comfortable.

As good as Carroll's record is, there is always room for improvement. I can see many on the team should take reponsibility for yesterday's debacle- the offensive line/coach, offensive coordinator, qb coach, even Carroll himself. But let's not leave out the qb. Booty does not appear to respond well to fluid , unexpected circumstances. Sanchez may just need a little seasoning.Hopefully he'll get his shot next year.

A two word suggestion for Lane Kiffin: Shotgun Formation!!!
USC's comeback attempt in both losses were ended by a batted ball at the line of scrimmage. He gets balls knocked down all the time. I can't remember one batted ball for Leinart in three years...it happens to Booty 3-4 times a game. Arggghhh!
I know the shotgun isn't a part of the west coast/chow offense...but the coaches need to adjust. That added space from the line of scrimmage would be a big help to Booty and the offense as a whole

Interested in a rationale take on this: It seems to me (this is NOT a flame, it's honest question) that Pete is to blame at least in that clearly it was ego battle than ran Chow out of town. Chow was a frickin genius. So those of you that hate Kiffin, why do you not ascribe any blame to Pete for losing Chow? Just curious.

Reelbruin,
These guys are homers. They think as long as PC is head coach, everything is OK. It's true all the blame goes to Lame Kiffin, however, I do blame Carroll.
Loyalty is a bitch. Isn't the debt repaid yet? Since Monte was his mentor, PC will not let go of Lame.
Pete's ego had us lose Chow. I can't wait to see Carroll's face when Michigan brings all-out blitzes and Booty just falls to the ground. Or shall I say slip?
CHOKE ON! WE SUCK!
