Offensive tackle Matt Spanos did not pass all his classes and is ineligible. Kicker Troy Van Blarcom is also ineligible and was dismissed from school because he did not have a 2.0 GPA after three semesters. Van Blarcom would need to reapply for admission to the university to come back, but don't hold your breath on that happening.
It should be noted that Van Blarcom said he would try to get a grade changed but few are optimistic about that scenario.
As a big time trojan fan, even I must admit this is pretty pathetic.
Ridiculous, but hopefully this frees up another scholarship.
USC needs a couple more scholarships to givfe to the 2007 class so all of the sudden USC has academic standards...LOL.
Pete Carroll has received word that some of his top juniors will return and he knows he needs more rides. Then BOOM! Amazing how nicely it all worked out.

Hasn't gotten a 2.0?? Did he even go to class?? I thought PC & staff were supposed to keep an eye on these guys.
Well if the guy can't get a 2.0 just get rid of him anyway he must be a bonehead.
No doubt this frees up another scholarship spot for another 5-star recruit.
But really, how hard is it to keep a 2.0 average and as a kicker at that? If you attend class and turn in your homework, you really shouldn't have a problem.
Troy barely got into SC. If after all this time with plenty of tutors to help you, you can't pass the grade...sayonara!
after just finishing my USC career a week ago, i am dumbfounded by how these guys can be ineligible. if you give even minimal effort, show up for a few classes and cram before tests, you should at least get C's. and i know they have to practice and lift and all that, but i worked 4 nites a week and made time for school. too bad for those guys but they gotta get a clue.

Besides the QB, offensive linemen are the smartest on the team...Spanos is obviouly not cut out for college nor the OL.
SC can object to the ridicule that ND and other academic institutions point to...but until some of this stupidity in the classroom is erased the embarrassment will continue.
I doubt SC has changed this much since I was there; You can get a 2.0 just by showing up. sheesh; how stupid are some of these guys esp. a kicker who really might need his degree later on in life; sometimes you just shake your head and say I'm glad its not me

I thought all students at SC bought their grades? Guess Troy wasn't pulling in enough $$$ from his NFL agent. Oh well, time for Pete to pick up another running back to ride the pine.
