No Touchdowns
John David Booty passed for 274 yards Saturday, but did not throw any touchdown passes. Only two other USC quarterbacks threw for more than 274 yards, with no touchdown passes but they won their games: Todd Marinovich, Oct. 28, 1989, 303 yards (a 19-0 home victory over Stanford), and Matt Leinart, Oct. 15, 2005, 301 yards (a 34-31 road victory over Notre Dame).

Comments
Marinovich and Leinart both had passion for the game, an unrelenting fire that inspired their team.
When they had awful games, they compensated with leadership.
I don't think Booty is bad, far from it, but he is not the QB we need.
Open up the competition Pete, let's get the best leader in the field.

Does anyone want Walt Harris to replace Kiffin now that the Cardinal have fired him? Replace one incestuous relationship with another? That seems the Pete Carroll way. Surprised no one has blamed the underperforming TE's on Brennan.
Maybe Norm Chow gets his job after all. Seems like he's doing a good job with VY. He ain't pretty but he wins.
And please Lisa Love, hire Dewayne Walker away from ucla (maybe he'll crash & burn as a HC).

How about those gutty little Bruins....here come's your 3 pete... 3 Losses in a row in the Rose Bowl. You think this is bad, wait until Bush-gate comes down. How depressing, enjoy the gutter......Go Big Blue, Hook Em Horns, and choke on!!

And Sanchez is the best leader because???
Underage in a bar w/ false ID, bedding girls possibly against their will due to intoxication (of either him, her, or both), OH and the team voted Booty captain (probably demonstrating his leadership skill huh).
Give the Sanchez thing a rest. He will be the QB in due time.

First, it wa a 34-31 victory at Notre Dame in 2005. Second, I personally am tired of the Booty bashing. Everyone likes to point the finger when things are not going according to their inflated expectations. Well, I am here to tell you (and I am sure Pete would agree) that our problems are NOT Booty's fault. He has been playing pretty darn well this entire year.

REGGIE BUSH and Matt Leinart bailed us out of many of those games we would and should have lost due mostly to Kiffins robotic playcalling. DeWayne Walker even said that it was "me against Booty," Not me against Kiffin, like it should have been.
Even Walker knew he was up against a very overmatched and underqualified OC in Lane Kiffin, counting on Kiffin's inibility to make adjustments and his continued track record of putting his QB in BAD SITUATIONS. We have managed to resurrect the fullback position midseason, so WHY THE SINGLE BACK OFFENSE CRAP!!! Against an ever BLITZING, WIDE BLITZING overagressive defense? NO DOUBLE TIGHTEND SETS and MAX PROTECTION PLAYS...NONE!!
Fred Davis should have been the MVP of that game with an good OC becuase Fred Davis would have been utilized like the great talent he is. I feel for him big time. Davis will be an average Tightend at best to the CF world because his OC has NO DAMN CLUE how to use him. And most of the time looks as though he doesn't want to use him. Friggin shame.
What else is a shame is you continue to support his crappy decisions simply because he holds the "office," (sounds like another office you probably still support) even though his decisions common-sense wise have proven faulty time and time again. I The DEFENSE is why we are 10-2 this year instead of 7-5. Believe that sh-t. Or don't. But you'll be the only one on this board continuing to support an OC who is starting to really be seen for the hack(ett) he is.
He's a talent killer. Like basketball coaches who are loaded with athletes on their team, but they continue to run a slow, predictable styled "hoosier" type offense that stifles their players athletic prowess, instead of a run-and-gun type imaginative, take what the defense gives you-style offense that maximizes their athletic ability, even though the other team is full of slow guys, or is playing in a way that GIVES THEM THE FAST BREAK, but he won't capitalize on it....Then, he waits until his team is losing really bad with little time left and all of a sudden starts pushing the ball up the court. That's Kiffin to the letter.
FIRE HIS ASS!!!

scott,
i remain astonished that any coach could take 4 consecutive no 1 recruiting classes, allow so many injuries to occur, and end up with a disaster like the ucla game and the coming humiliation by michigan.
where is norm chow?
keep up the great work,

I've admired his play for most of the season, but Saturday's game put me over the edge.
Booty's case of happy feet was disgraceful and he couldn't check off to a secondary receiver to save his life.
Carroll should give Sanchez 75% of the snaps during the bowl practices and at least give him a shot in the game.

Miguelito,
Why the facade? There is no "Big Blue" or "Hook Em Horns" for you. There's only "UUUUuuuu Stheee Al Ay".
Why hide behind those other great and proud teams? I know why. Because your two favorite teams are fUCLA and 115 D1 teams that aren't USC! Is it because SC wouldn't hire you as a janitor even though you screamed "Affiratave Action"? That only works at ACLU and the University of Michigan...Oh I get it now.
Never mind.

Displaced Imposter,
Will you please cease with the comments using my moniker and URL?
Anyone who reads my blog knows I wouldn't make comments like the crap you've left here. In fact, someone gave me the heads up about the bogus comment above a few minutes a go.
If you have a beef with me, at least have the class, guts and/or intelligence to make your point without hiding behind bogus comments like a coward.
Thanks.

Bring in former Trojan Killer Bob Toledo... lousy head coach? Yes. Primo OC? Absolutely! Would Pete mind sharing a bit of the spotlight?

What game were some of you whiners watching?
Booty was chased around all day. I don't think he had time to get to his third read more than a couple times.
He did a good job, and with one or two exceptions threw the ball well. Some of his incompletions were clearly deliberate throws into the grass where his primary or secondary was covered....and he didn't have time to find the third option.
The defense was fine, the receivers and quarterback were fine. But the O-line just folded over and over. I can't get too disappointed at Gable, who rarely had the kind of large holes we have been used to seeing.
One advantage of sitting in the end zone high up (row 77) is you really see the blocking work or not work. It did not work. Furthermore, some of the holding and false start penalties were drive killers.
Sorry Kiffen haters, you're just looking for a reason. I don't know if Kiffen is good or bad, but we got beat at the line of scrimmage... repeatedly all afternoon.
So fine, we coulda woulda shoulda... but remember this was our rebuilding year... and we were a whisker away from the BCS title game.
As PC would say, "Suck it up!"
Let's enjoy the Rose Bowl and not be the spoiled babies that so many of us sound like. How many schools would have loved to get any BCS bowl game...
So come on Trojans, BEAT THE WOLVERINES!

Hey PH55, I said:

Where did you read put Sanchez on the field?

So Displaced Trojan,
Booty's happy feet were disgraceful? What was he supposed to do, stand up strong and get drilled? Any quarterback gets happy feet when they are getting that type of pressure.

RC4SC:
Miguelito is an idiot, we all know that, but why do you have to be a racist prick?

I wonder if all of you Booty haters were hating last week when Booty was lighting up Notre Dame and getting the ball to Dwayne Jarrett for his NFL highlight reel? Bob Davies (even if he is an ex-Notre Dame coach) said it well when he said if you give Booty time like any QB to set his feet and throw he is extremely accurate. And those of you who keep saying that Leinart was the reason we won so many games last year, he did make a lot of great plays, but Reggie Bush and Lendale pulled most of the games out example Arizona State Leinart got hit in the chin, couldn't hardly complete passes Reggie and Lendale went off and broke big runs, and Leinart may have hit Jarrett on a 4th and 9 but if Reggie hadn't broken some long runs earlier in that game, there would have been no need for 4th and 9, Booty is doing a pretty good job and for the most part has been steady, the entire team did not do well this week, the defense finally settled down but they also allowed the QB to make us look like a bunch of silly school kids out there for a while and like the previous posters already state the O-Line straight out got beat from start to finish.

Hey PH55,
Yes Booty was supposed to stand up and get drilled.
Patrick Cowan was willing to take that hit Maualuga laid on him for HIS team and to WIN THE GAME. He got up didn't he without so much as a wince? Booty was not willing to stand strong and take a hit. And if he gets hurt we got a go to guy on the bench who is much better than Booty and Cowan put together.
Booty gets rattled easily and does not know how to take a hit resulting in bad footwork and quick passes that land short.
The split second he feels the rush he hurries himself. There is no poise there.
Think back to Palmer's first game AS A FRESHMEN against Purdue in 98. Remember his first bomb? I was there. The rush was coming Palmer stood strong and threw the ball. Yeah he got nailed but the poise was evident.
Flash Forward to Leinart. How many hits did he take, stand strong and shake off to win games? Remember ASU in 03 and 05 to name a couple?
BOOTY DOES NOT HAVE IT!
Now the argument your going to use against me is Hey we are 10-2 with Booty.
OK but how many close games did we have that most definitely should have been blowouts? Given our superior talent level and Coaching (minus Kiffin of course).
UCLA was 6-5 and OSU was a 500 ball club at best when we played them. We lost to really inferior teams who were just pumped up for their games.

PH55,
Again, that first comment criticizing Booty and calling for Sanchez was not me. It's the bizarro world Displaced Trojan, aka the coward who hides behind bogus comments.

After reading all the blog entrys, I am astonished at how little Raiderfan-oops I mean Trojan Fan actually knows about football. Congrats on your Rose bowl 3PETE after Michigan rolls you.

If it is all the o-lines fault then fire Pat Ruel. The reason many of us don't like the playcallilng is because we remember the plays that Norm Chow ran, and we don't see it anymore on the field. Have you seen a shuffle pass, or a screen that works lately? These are the types of plays that keep defenses off balance, that is why UCLA used it on USC's defense. The problem is not just not calling the plays, but the team is not practicing these types of plays either. And that is the fault of the offensive coordinator. If the OC doesn't run plays over and over in practice the players will not be able to execute them in the game.
So, if there is anyone out there who regularly attends practices, can you tell me how the practices are run?

Geez. Displaced Trojan, it is interesting to hear that your comments on Booty were made by an imposter. I thought they were right on the mark. Actually, it was the first time in a while that you've made perfect sense.

JDB, that is the ?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the next draft is NOT QB rich. Just for the sake of conversation or to get PH55(1 or 2) excited:
Assuming that JDB goes PRO, does he have any chances to go before the fourth round? OK experts it's your turn to blast me! I am having fun!
