Now It Can Be Told

USC tailback Chauncey Washington his sprained knee was actually a tear of the medial-collateral ligament, which explains why his recovery was so slow.
Washington suffered the injury against Oregon on Nov. 11 and is still not 100 percent today although he hopes all the swelling in his knee goes down by the end of the week.
``I got an MRI and it showed an MCL tear is completely gone,’’ Washington said. `` I was supposed to be out but I kept on playing. It’s coming along.’’

It makes me think who's overseeing these injuries? Chauncey became a liability to the position by injury and we're still force feeding him the ball(a la UCLA--4th down--game over!) It's great that we're giving the ball to a person that has a blown out knee with the national title on the line! What about Brandon Hancock? He played much of training camp and maybe some earlier with a similar knee injury going undiagnosed. I'm half sure other injuries are going down the same way as we have seen an escalation of injuries on the football team that borders out of sight! There should be some kind of investigation into this growing epidemic! And don't give me "that's the nature of the game bit." Questions need to be asked. Whose diagnosing?, Where are they diagnosing? How often? How are some playing so long after the initial injury? What medication is involved? etc. Sincerely, Steve McGhghy.

The first thing they have to do is figure out why so many players keep getting hurt--H. Dennis, Hancock, Washington, J. Holland, S. Havili, M.Morgan, DJ was hurt part of the year, E. Moody is hurt, C.McFoy was hurt, C. Barrett...the list goes on and on. It was the same last year, our defense was like a MASH unit vs. Texas, Sartz was hurt, Lua, T. Thomas, Spanos was hurt too... And the year before...either they are practicing too hard or not stretching enough or something. What's the point of having the #1 recruting class every year if 50% of the players are hurt and can't play and Jody Adewale is your FB?

Although it really won't matter vs. a fired up Michigan team with a great defense that is going to hold Lame Kiffin's simple offense to about 3 points like UCLA did. This is going to be the worst loss of PC's USC career I bet UM wins by 20 points.

FIRE LAME KIFFIN NOW

Hey, I'll be the first to commend CW on his efforts to play through the pain of an injury, but a torn MCL, come on, how can CW put himself ahead of the team playing with an injury like that? Who knows what it may have cost the team by CW playing and not someone else who would at least be at 100%. How much did the coaches know about this and when?

Does anyone know why Stafon Johnson continues to be benched? The No.2 ranked HS'Back last year sits on the bench while every other back on the roster is nagged by injuries. He appears to have size and speed we need. If he has issues its McNair and PC's job to fix them - thats what coaches do. If they think they are saving him for the future by red-shirting him - Why? If he reaches his potential he will leave before senior year anyway. I can't imagine any other PAC-10 Team not playing this guy, and, if necessary, working out the kinks on the field and with the first Team in practice.

Is this another sign of USC's offensive coaching ineptitude? Surely the coaches knew that he had a bigger problem than a sprained knee, and he was still in the game, worse yet, he was GETTING THE BALL!!!

I'm a CW fan - I think, when healthy, he can be an awesome back. That said, we have quite a few good backs, so why use the injured one?? Don't hide that he's hurt - tell everyone and let him recuperate properly. Putting him in a game situation when he's not healthy doesn't help the team, and could in fact make the injury worse. I would say the same thing after a 40-10 win, not just after a 13-9 loss.

That shows how pathetic our offense is...a desperation move of starting injured players to try to get production.

Where have you gone Norm Chow?

Well, we all have no one to blame but ourselves for supporting PC. His ego was what forced Chow out, and Kiffin is his buddy.

To quote the film "full metal jacket"

"It's a big sh*t sandwich and we all gotta take a bite"

ahhh, now I see.....thats why SC's Oline was man-handled.....Chumpsy was hurt. I think you people are setting a record for making excuses as to why you lost. If you ask the players (the ones who one) they will tell you that the SC players were all hype and not that good, when asked about SC's toughness the defensive players chuckled and said SC players couldn't handle the physicallity and quit. Get ready, Michigan is going to run right through you!!!!fight on!!13-9

Uh the "the ones who one" is that the result of your top notch UCLA education. Yeah, we lost. All it took to get over it was two dumb, hot 'SC chicks. I'm sorry, but when the smoke clears, SC will continue to dominate every year, and you will cherish that 13-9 moment while we battle for another National Championship. Until then, cheers to good life! Fight on, Drink Strong!

The responses to this story are ridiculous for the most part.

Why so many injuries? Because it's a contact sport people! USC did not have an inordinate number of injuries this year, they just had a couple of positions get hit really hard. Almost every program in the nation is dealing with this at some position.

Why not play Stafon, why not Bradford ... why not move Taylor Mays over for that matter??? Because they don't know what they are doing at that position.

You had Gable as a proven runner who protected the ball, he was the best option. Kudos to Chauncey for trying to gut it out. Everyone on the team is playing hurt to some degree by the end of the season.

Look people, the O-line got owned by UCLA. That was the difference - no excuses, no personnel second guessing.

miguelito,

How many times do I have to tell you to get off the computer and get back to work!

Nothing changes, does it? What a bunch o' whiners on this blog. Most of you people are not fans; you're unfortunately people frustrated by your own lives that need to vent anger at things you have no control of -- because you have no control of your own lives, perhaps? Eh?

I would humbly suggest you stop calling yourselves Trojan fans; you dishonor the school with your babbling diatribes.

Oh, and Migelito -- you're blasting the wrong people. You keep picking on a team that's actually won something - a conference championship. You should be picking on the lame fans of that team that take that fact for granted.

Oh, and UCLA fans -- you have every right to gloat. Your team played great (well, only in defense, really). But while you may have won a single game against your rival, you've still not won any kind of championship in forever. SC owns you in that department on the football field.

Ray,

Thanks for sharing your whiny, babbling diatribe with the Trojan Community on Scott’s Blog. Do you feel better now that YOU vented? Do YOU have lack of control issues in YOUR life? Eh?

Humbly,

Frustrated, Whining, Trojan Fan

FYI - This Blog has always been a home for babbling, whiny, Trojan fans, so you might want to stick with the Arbolog...it might be better suited for you.

Injuries? All you pansies crying over injuries, remember football is a "FULL CONTACT SPORT". Injuries happen, deal with it.

A thousand pardons toUscSig06. Apparently, Stafon, and yeah I guess Bradford, are not smart enough to learn USC's offense. These guys are no longer Freshman after 12 games of practice opportunities. I'm not saying it was the end of the world when Chow left, but one thing he is known for is his ability to translate a complicated pro offense into simple terms for easier understanding. This is what is needed to bring physically talented people up to speed and fast. Surely this is what coaching at the college level is all about - teaching and maturing young players. The bottom line is that Johnson and Bradford have been healthy, the others were and currently are not.

yeah but Davey the point is..why DID the O line get "owned" by UCLA? Aren't we supposed to have all the talent in the land and be headed to the NC game? So..what's the problem? A 6-5 team "owned" us?

"It's a contact sport" yep...and can you name another team who lost their #1 RB (Dennis) , #1 FB (Hancock), 2 of their 3 starting WR's hurt, numerous O lineman, and 3 starting DB's (K. Thomas, W. Harris, J. Pinkard) ??

I didn't think so.

Sorry the days of "why is everyone so spoiled on this site" are long gone. We have already lost 2 games and are about to be blasted on national TV by Michigan.

Time for heads to roll.

Listen to your buddy Ray, you are all a bunch of spoiled whiny fans that are about to get a Maize and Blue beat down. Maybe your team should play flag football instead of tackle football if you are going to keep complaining about all of these injuries.

At least you guys have figured out your excuses for why you are going to lose...Dennis was out, Hancock was out, Washington was hurt, J. Holland was hurt, S. Havili was out, M. Morgan was out, DJ wasn’t 100%, E. Moody was banged up, C. McFoy was hurt, C. Barrett was hurt...it was a rebuilding year, Booty sucks or there is the always reliable...it was Kiffin’s fault. Di I miss any? I wish I had my own material, but I will just keep using what you Trojans post on your own Blog.

-Detroit Rob

Hey miguelito:
Question: How do Bruins spell WON?
Ans. ONE!

"yeah but Davey the point is..why DID the O line get "owned" by UCLA? Aren't we supposed to have all the talent in the land and be headed to the NC game? So..what's the problem? A 6-5 team "owned" us?"

If Lane tries a couple of draw plays for big yards, the massive rush (too many at a time to block them all)is halted! Lane??? Hello! Anyone up in the press box watching the game?? What are you saving for the big game??

Once again I see we have way to many coaches not working with the free time to post this site as well as the insight to medical issues dealt with my football teams. So much wasted talent out there!
