On To The Cardinals

Now that Karl Dorrell saved his job with the win over USC, Steve Mariucci has turned his attention to landing the Arizona Cardinals job.
This means losing to UCLA might have cost Pete Carroll at the very least a job offer and a chance to get yet another raise out of USC.

Scott,

Thanks for all of the coverage I am getting. UCLA was begging for me to come coach their Football Team. But seriously, Oaks Christian produces more NFL talent than the Bruins, and why would I want to coach the Bruins when I can coach a Trojan QB in the NFL? Just because UCLA wanted me, doesn't mean I ever wanted UCLA.

LOL

And Pete would be worth every penny.

Another way to look at those developments is that USC losing to the Bruins this year has a huge long term silver lining.
That being:

PC stays at USC
AND
Dorrell stays at UCLA.

That is two of the best things a Trojan football fan can hope to hear for Christmas...

Glad to hear that Dorrell is staying... Great news for Trojan Fans... but my biggest hope is that DeWayne Walker finds a head coaching job somewhere outside of the Pac 10.

Let me get this straight...by losing to Dorrell we ensure that he sticks around and PC won't leave? Here's hoping that PC throws ucla a bone every 6th year from here on out!

Wolf, due to yet another mention of Mariucci and the ucla job, will that dipsh*t Brian Dohn go running to his daddy Dan Guerrero and concoct some sort of crybaby quote to place on his attention-less blog?

What a weasel that guy is. What's wrong with him? Why didn't he get this story?

Is he employed by ucla?

1) Dorrell and Walker just beat you.

2) This story is total bogus, you guys are even dumber than you look for believing it.

Sorry ReelBruin about the UCLA win over USC. I know you REALLY wanted to see me coach your Bruins to a respectable level where they could actually contend for the PAC 10 Championship on a consistent basis. I feel really bad so I will send you some tickets to a Cardinal game so you can see Leinhart play...again.

Don't upset ReelBruin, he may try to beat you up. That is how a Bruin deals with things right? (http://cbs2.com/sports/local_story_339220843.html)

ReelRuin -

Cherish the moment while you can. USC is going to the Rose Bowl (5th straight BCS bowl), Fucla is going to the whogivesashit bowl.

USC wins 10 games year in/out, Fucla is at 7-6 every year with a once-in-a-lifetime fluke 10-win season.

USC will be playing for the titles (Pac-10 and MNC) every year. Fucla can only hope to play spoiler on the way to the Vegas bowl.

You have Dullard, who just got his lone signature win. We have Pete who wins championships.

Yes, the loss sucked, but I like our future much more than yours (and deep down you know this is true).

I LOVE the denial Trojan fans are in right now. Dorrell may or may not be the long-term answer at UCLA, but if you're still drinking the Pete Carroll Kool Aid, you're in a for a rude awakening. Dorrell CLEARLY outcoached Uncle Pete on Saturday, and he actually did the same 2 years ago, though the talent gap was a little too much to overcome. That's 2 out of three years Dorrell outcoached Pete! And since you're all so sure Dorrell is garbage, what does that make Pete? If you actually think Pete Carroll can win a NC without Norm Chow, I pity you. Carroll is a great recruiter, so much so that the talent he's recruited (with the help of Chow and Orgeron - who are now gone) has helped hide the fact that he is still the same crappy coach that stuck up the NFL. BUt we're starting to see the truth emerge. He has not won an National Championship without Norm Chow, and as his inadequate coaching is further revealed, the recruiting will slow down, and the talent gap will dwindle - if he even sticks around long enough to be further exposed. Enjoy denial Trojans. The next stage is far more painful...

What's the next stage? Beating UCLA once every eight years and going to the Emerald Bowl? Okay.

While Chow did help bring us 2 National Championships, if the next step without Chow is still winning 10/11 games, continuing to get the No. 1 recruiting Class, playing in the BCS and being in contention for the National Championship... it doesn't sound too bad.

FYI - The Talent Gap is still there.

Hermosa Bruin -

I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that Pete Carroll is a crappy coach. How many college football teams have accomplished what USC has the past 5 years under his leadership? (certainly not UCLA!) In a supposed rebuilding year, USC still won the pac 10 and is going to the rose bowl. But whatever helps you sleep at night I guess...

I love bruin fans talking to Trojan fans about denial. They should be experts after all those years during the post Wooden era.

1 title since he left and they still think they are the Mecca of college basketball.

Reelbruin and Hermosa Bruin, win 2 in a row again and then pop off. 1 victory does not a tide shift make.

denial? the fact is, we still GET to the NC game. and if paid more close attention hermosaidiot, scoring wasn't the problem versus texas, so norm wouldn't have helped win that game. just enjoy this win as we play a real bowl game in your home turf.

Hey, Hermosa bruin, why don't you head down to Sharkeez and drink a little more to fuel your silly comments.

Pete has embarrassed your program since the day he arrived, and will continue to do so as long as he coaches at USC.

Have fun in the emeraldcitywesuckbowl. While you're up there (San Francisco) all you commie/liberal bruins should feel right at home.

Trojan

One more thing for bruins who feel the need to post on this site.

History lesson:

Last time UCLA played in the Rose Bowl? (and no, not home games)

Answer: 1999 (lost)

Last time UCLA won the Rose Bowl?

Answer: 1986 (most of your current students were not even born yet!)

So please do not even try and compare the two football programs.

Just go win another women's softball championship, gymnastics, women's water polo, etc.... and leave football to the Men of Troy.

Trojan

Rex - Deep down I know that the tide has turned, and we can both look forward to getting back to a time where both schools come in highly regarded with the Pac-10 on the line. Not so long ago, it was 8 straight the other way.

Pete ran your best coorcinators out of down due to ego, and that problem is now clear, now that Chow's guys are gone.

Sorry Rex, deep down I think YOU know that you better get ready to get punched in the mouth again next year.

ReelBruin - Your hunches, predictions, conjecture, foretelling, whatever you want to call it mean nothing. When (if) UCLA wins back to back titles and has an overall win streak that USC has enjoyed the past 5 years, then come back and say something valuable. Otherwise, what are you doing here?

God I hope Stanford/ASU makes Dewayne Walker a head coaching offer so that idiot Bruins can stop thinking that Dorrell did something against USC. The worst thing that ever happened for UCLA was them winning that game.

News flash ReelBruin - DeWayne Walker won UCLA that game. He's a great get for Dorrell and it's not a small coincidence that he was the first assistant coach Pete Carroll hired at USC. UCLA's offense stinks to high heaven but Dewayne's defense is nails. Once Dewayne leaves I can't wait to see how "back" UCLA is.

USC's going to NC games and Rose Bowls without Norm Chow. UCLA's going to the Emerald Bowl with Dewayne Walker. No comparison. You lost your chance to turn things around with Mariucci's help when Dorrell tricked the boosters into thinking he won that game.

It is clear to me now that this Trojan loss just paved the way for 4 to 5 more years of Trojan dominance over UCLA.
USC players and Coaches will definitely not overlook UCLA again.

Wow, you guys are classic cases, here. You're following the stages of grief by the book: Shock, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Testing, Acceptance.

I witnessed the "shock" firsthand as you stared blankly at the Rose Bowl field. "Denial" has been well documented in this thread. Now, so has "anger". And it seems now the "bargaining" stage is setting in for many (i.e. if only Walker would leave, if only we could keep talking about history, maybe the hurt will go away...). Too bad for you, it still gets worse... after the loss to Michigan, "depression" will set in. Then, after a few early season wins next season, you'll "test" the waters by letting yourself think "maybe the worst is behind us and we can go back to dominating like we did with Chow". But after a couple regular season losses and another loss to UCLA, "acceptance" will finally set in. You'll finally let yourself accept that your run is over, and your beloved Pete blew your chance at the greatest run in college football history because his ego couldn't handle sharing the credit with the one coach who deserved it - and could have kept it going - Norm Chow. And now you're stuck with an overhyped cheerleader who can't even outcoach that "crappy" coach across town...
If it makes you feel better that you'll always have a stronger football tradition than UCLA, then I'll let you have that - I don't want any of you jumping off bridges. But sooner or later you're going to accept that your dominance in football - including your recent run - is history. And unless Carroll can swallow his pride (yeah right) and actually hire good coaches around him, USC football is just as likely to go into another 30 year drought as they are to win another NC anytime soon. Your run is over guys. It was a good one - could have been legendary - but it's over now and it's time to accept it and move on...you'll get there soon enough...

Hermosabruin,

Your entire rant is full of "what if's" and not backed by any hard facts.

You speak of a "good run", well if two National Championships, an appearance in a third, and complete domination of both our rivals is a "good run" in your mind, than you truly are biased and know nothing about college football.

Not to mention 5 straight Pac-10 Championships and three Heisman winners

What USC has been able to accomplish the past 5 years is just short of amazing.

Trojan

Hermosa Bruin........do you realize this was THE rebuilding year for SC?? they should not have won 10 games.they should not have captured the PAC 10 title for the 5th time (in a row) they should not have been contending for the NC,,,,,oh no, all the pundits were drooling over Cal for all that. Cal was the team to beat they said So what happened ?? they spanked Arkansas, Nebraska, Cal, Oregon, Notre Dame and stumbled and bumbled their way into a loss at ucla....so what?? 1 game and the run is over ?? puleez...Get your baby blue colored glasses off and smell the Roses (as in Rose Bowl roses) SC is just getting STARTED on their new run at greatness with their new cast of stars.....I am sure there are at least 100 other Division 1 schools that would love to have the QBs, RBS and WRs sitting on SC's bench right now (b-ruins included) . Trust me, had Pat Cowen not had the legs he has, the b-ruins would have lost that game too(the ucla offense was its pathetic self as usual) He led in scoring and rushing.as a second string QB !! talk all you want. SC will be back and be once again reloading with the likes of Chris Gallipo, Marc Tyler and Aaron Corp and co........The Trojans are young , very young. They will only get better and more mature in the next few years ....meanwhile you will still have Karl Dullard moping the side lines fr the b-ruins on the way to another 6-6 or at best 7-5 season.......

Hermosa Bruin -

1 - funny, we heard the exact same comment "...your dominance in football - including your recent run - is history...." from Oregon back in the 90's. Then what happened?
2 - you assume we are as obsessed over this topic as you are. (look up obsessed in your book of psychological conditions).
3 - you really do need to get a life

Dear Hermosa Bruin (is it really Hermosa...or is it really Torrance Bruin or Chatsworth Bruin... don't be ashamed) -

Even a lab rat gets the cheese every once in a while... Congrats on your "signature" win of your decade. Question for you - I thought your team was going to make the "big jump" after the USC/UCLA game two years ago when you apparently out coached SC only to lose again... Then I heard last year was the actual "big turn around" year but then you got smacked by AZ and destroyed 66-17 by SC. (BTW, how do you explain that one - 66 to 17? Pete was really out coached there!) Then finally I hear this was the "big turn around" year for UCLA only to wind up 7-5 and barely making a bowl. So you caught SC sleeping before the NC game and won. It happens. How could one game change things for your pathetic program? It doesn't. If SC beats UCLA in basketball as we did last year, does that instantly make SC the better team and program? No we'd never say that. The one in denial is clearly you. Your program stunk 2 years ago, it stunk last year, it stunk this year and it will stink next year. Our dominance over you and the PAC 10 is frightening. When you actually put a whole season together, call me and we can have this discussion for real. For now your grasping for straws.

BTW - great games against ND, CAL, Org, Wash and Wash St. - you've clearly turned things around and Dorrell and that defense of yours is really something special.

What's wrong with being a Chatsworth Bruin?

Oops. Looks like a few of you have slipped back into the denial stage. Bummer for you...
