One More Year

USC defensive end Lawrence Jackson told Trojans coach Pete Carroll on Thursday he would return for his senior season.
``I came back to be a part of a great program and great university. With the guys we have returning on defense I couldn’t pass up being a part of it,’’ Jackson said. ``I have a chance to be a senior leader on one of the best teams in the country.''

I'm thinking Pete and his NFL buddies told LoJack he wouldn't go until the second day.

YES!!!!!!! THANK YOU LOJACK

Too bad for Jeff Schweiger. With Sartz leaving, that would have moved Cushing to the SAM spot.

Conventional wisdom would suggest a move back to the basic 4-3, with Schweiger and Moore as DEs.
Cushing would be a LB in the 4-3 instead of a DE in the 3-4.

Moore seems better than Schweiger. At least based on who has appeared in games this year.

Jeff Schweiger is a bust in a way, since he will be a SENIOR and not played at all. His best game was as a true freshman in the BCA game vs. VT in 2004.

Same could be said of the career of Jeff Byers...

LoJack

Made the right decision! It kinda helps (stops the UCLA bleading) knowing SC will have a striong team again next year. We will compete to win the pac 10 and go to the rose bowl! Thats all u can ask for!

Fight On LoJack!

Considering his lack of wowing stats this year I think he made the right decision as long as he gets a good insurance policy.

As far as Jessica Simpson's comments, Schweiger got a bad case of food poisoning just before the start of the season that made him drop 30 pounds. Hard to overcome that in a relatively short football season. And Byers is such a great player and I hope he recovers completely from his hip surgery. Unfortunately it seems he tried to come back from the initial injury too quickly, re-injured the hip, and had to have the surgery all over again. Very unfortunate, but far from a bust.

Great news! LJ had a decent year in the coaches mind, but a less than stellar year on the stat sheet. I think the former is more indicative of his play, but the latter is what brings in the $$$$$ on draft day.

Now if DJ makes the same decision, we could be on to something for next year :-)

No brainer, LoJack needs to have a big year next year. I hope he can record a sack in the first game next year.

Not a big surprise here. LoJac had a very dissapointing season. Going to the NFL now would be a stupid move since he wouldn't go very high.

I think he had a tough time adjusting to his new weight, among other problems. He needs it so he can occassionaly bull rush, (as offenses figured out how to run him, and our other ends, out of most plays) but he didn't know how to use it and suffered.

Looking forward to another dominating year for you and your boys next year, LoJack. thanks!

Lo Jack???? who is that??? They only defensive lineman worth a damn on your team is ellis. OVER-RATED......OVER-RATED.....OVER-RATED.....OVER-RATED.....next year UCLA is really going to kick your ass, your team is lucky they didn't lose a handful of other games this year. Next year I can't wait to see your offensive line hahahahahaha. GO BIG BLUE!!!

Wow, that's very impressive perspective from a young guy who could cash a big check (even if it is 2nd/3rd round money).

For a program to make a run at the title, regardless of how much "talent" and 5-star recruits you have, you need solid proven depth along the line-of-scrimmage. This is really big for USC - who is the likely preseason #1 in 2007.

there's not a single lineman O or D on our team that is ready to be a first round draft pick with the exception of Kalil.

Oh, and Miguelito....you truly desecrate this blogspot and I'm pretty much confused as to why Scott even allows your posting. Your mother would be ashamed if she knew what an enabeling little turd you are!

Overrated?! Typical classless bRUIN. You win one game against SC to make it an actual rivalry again (because it wasn't for 5 years under Carroll) and you're all cocky now. You still have Dorrell and you're still baby blue.

No offense but Kalil is nowhere close to a first rounder. That's crazy, very rarely do you see a center go in the first round.

Kalil was a warrior and a great college player but he is small and not that athletic by NFL standards. He's a late pick pure and simple. Seems like a great guy and I wish him the best as he tries to hook on in the NFL.

It’s amazing to me that UCLA fans continue to demonstrate their inability to contribute anything intelligent or insightful. They can't even understand how embarrassing these comments are to themselves and their school. I guess we know where our tax dollars are going...

Sam Baker is a potential 1st round draft pick.

He must be pissed that he lost to UCLA!

That's huge news. USC's D is shaping up to be absolutely insane next year. USC has a real shot next year for a big run, especially with the added speed offensively at WR and the experience coming back at RB.

As for UCLA, they better hope they can keep Walker.

Davey, I have to agree with Goliath. You have a point about centers rarely getting drafted in the 1st rd though, but I think he's a pretty outstanding center and would at least put him up against anyone else in the Pac or against anyone else we've played. Baker might possibly make the first round with a very good senior season under his belt. We can sure use some O linemen in the upcoming recruiting season though. Specifically this kid O'Dowd from Arizona and Anthony Davis from NJ to name a couple.
