Play Of The Day
USC almost suffered a key injury during Wednesday’s practice in one of the season’s more embarrassing moments.
Freshman tailback Emmanuel Moody broke free on a run, and in a practice tradition, was supposed to run all the way to the end zone without any defensive players following him. But assistant coach Dave Watson, who urged Moody to keep running, slipped on the wet turf and fell, with his feet upending Moody and knocking the back down hard to the turf.
Moody, already recovering from torn ankle ligaments that forced him to miss several games, slowly got up and appeared to be hurt before eventually jogging back to the huddle.
``I bruised my knee,’’ Moody said. ``He got me pretty good. I don’t know what happened.’’
Watson, who yelled at Moody to ``get up,’’ said he knew Moody was not hurt.
``As an effort coach it’s my job to chase the back,’’ he said. ``He’s a tough guy. It was a minor collision. I tackled him with my feet like a soccer player.’’

If some bonehead assistant coach/grad student injured E. Moody he should be working at Subway today.
Watching FSU destroy UCLA last night, here are 3 things we can take from that: (In my opinion)
1. FSU had the right play calling vs. UCLA. Lots of screens, draws, and quick passes to defeat their pass rush. And that was from their OC Jeff Bowden, who is doing so badly this year he has been fired. So where does that leave our Lane?
2. Jeff Bowden has done a pretty bad job this year calling plays. And, FSU had the guts to fire him. Hmmm...fire the Offensive coordinator...(are you listening Mike Garrett?)
3. If a team like FSU, which is 7-6, I believe, and is considered to be having it's worst season ever, can tear up UCLA, where does that leave us? (Not to mention Boise St. beat Oregon St.)
Is Watson on the Wolverine payroll?
Scott, can you elaborate on your brief note in today's SC report that the offense looked bad. what's the problem?
USC1966, I hate the Ruins as much as the next right-thinking American, but I watched the Almond Bowl and I thought FSU's play-calling was atrocious. Except for one gadget play, they didn't do anything but line up and telegraph exactly what they were going to run. If the Ruins didn't hand FSU three touchdowns, we'd be reading what a freaking genius Dullard and DeWayne are.
Hmmm....yeah good post Mike.
Well, we're going to Disneyland," Pete Carroll said. With all the enthusiasm of a convict sighing, "Well, I'm heading for the gallows."
They are trying to say the right things. Sometimes they even manage it. "Great game, chance to showcase our program," all that.
But their hearts aren't in it. Not when the Granddaddy of Them All is the Grand Letdown of Them All.
Carroll's trademark enthusiasm was absent. His sense of fun had gone missing. He couldn't even manage a smile.
His players hardly seemed more excited.
It will require something like greatness to get this USC team interested. On Monday, we find out if the 2006 Trojans have it.
That's from an article in the San Bernardino Sun. I know the players are depressed about not playing in the NC, Hell I have been drinking ever since the UCLA loss, but phoning in the game vs. UM and losing by 20 points is really going to make things worse
Testing
To pharaphrase a line from the movie "Waterboy"
"Oh no! The Bruins suck again!!!"
I agree that the lack of enthusiasm is a problem, but perhaps Carroll is just trying to keep it real. The Rose Bowl IS is step down. No sense denying it. If the team can refocus and play like it's the first game of the 2007 season, they'll be fine. Michigan has the same sense of let-down.
"USC almost suffered a key injury during Wednesday’s practice in one of the season’s more embarrassing moments."
Dec. 2 was THEE most embarrassing moment of the season, no question, hands down!
I wish I could have seen that slide tackle by Watson. I wonder if his form is anywhere near as good as that of Paul Scholes?
