Under Pressure
A Pac-10 coach said today that the loser of the Rose Bowl will have a lot of explaining to do in the offseason.
``Both teams have a lot at stake. Someone will have a tough offseason losing to their crosstown rival and a bowl game. it's like playing a bowl game against Fresno State and losing.
``Michigan feels like they can't afford to lose. Both teams are like `we can't lose.' ''

THE UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR
I live in Michigan, we are so used to losing to USC we don't even care anymore. That's like death and Taxes. Go to the Rose Bowl, lose to USC (or an occasional Washington st. or fUCLA),start thinking about next year. It isn't going to hurt UM or Lloyd Carr all that much.
But, if USC loses...wow. 2 loses in a row, one to a main rival and the other in the Rose Bowl with everyone in the USA watching, resulting in a 3 loss season....It will be a rough offseason for PC and USC fans, to say the least. Everyone from Lou Holtz on ESPN to msn.com to internet posters will have a field day.
PC better have his troops ready
