Unusual Loss
USC coach Pete Carroll said the 13-9 loss was unlike most of his career during the past five years of success.
``We didn't kick the ball around and the other team didn't have to play the game of their life,'' he said. ``This was a difficult day. I'm really disappointed in missing out at that chance (for the BCS title). It was unfortunate.''

PC does seem a bit unwilling to admit that his offense got completely outschemed by DeWayne Walker, choosing instead to blame it elsewhere. Other coaches were more honest about it, except Kiffin claiming that McNeal's INT was anything other than McNeal reading the play.

What is it exactly you want? Do you want the Trojans to admit that for the first time in 8 years the Bruins came to play?
All week, if you listened to PC, he warned that something like this was coming.
Not sure you are old enough to remember a story told by Tommy Lasorda. He used the phrase "Don't drown a mile off shore". It was about a sailor whose boat sank, and he swam for miles until he was about a mile from the shore, then he relaxed and drowned.
The moral is that when you have beat the odds to reach a point where your goal is in site, you cannot relax until you are done.
The Trojans, after winning 3 games in a row that everyone had told them they would probably not win, and reaching the BCS position that everyone said was gone after the Oregon St. loss, just plain relaxed a week too soon. If the Bruins had been 10-1 like last year, I don't think this happens. But facing a 6-5 UCLA team, human nature and immaturity kicked in.
Congrats on the win, but don't try to make it bigger than it is. It was a great game played by the Bruins against a Trojan team that was not emotionally ready to play that day.
Scott. Next time you speak to Pete remind him the importance of the Fucla game. Where he may say that it is just like every other game and should be played like every other game, to fans in Los Angeles, it IS OUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers, Neighbors, and Friends treat this game as a war amongst themselves. Please make him understand that the game against Fucla makes or breaks your season. Scott, do us this favor...from all the fans.
Fight On,
Evan
Wondering how Kiffin had no answer to the UCLA bull rush. This weakness was similarly displayed in the Wash St game.
How does Kiffin keep his job after this disaster. Regardless of the loss of pride and standing...This loss where we were held to only one touchdown by a rag tag 500 club with a decisive lesser degree of talent cost the University and the Pac 10 more than the millions of dollars it lost...but also the promotional value of being once again in that biggest of games. Wondering how many recruits got turned off by our lack of physicality, our ineptness in the penalty department and our choke out in what should have most certainly been a walkover game. The Bruins are just not that good. We showed the nation on Saturday some devistating weakness. I certainly hope that PC rolls some heads on his staff...starting with the offensive offensive co-ordinators.
ReelBruin -
After the game in the on-field post game interview, Pete did indeed credit Walker's playcalling and game plan as a big reason for the loss.
That was the main thing I remember him saying, other than it was a disappointing loss and good job to UCLA.
Dorrell went out and got an assistant from USC to coach his defense. As a result, the defense knew everything that was coming.
Paul Hackett should have done the same thing when Toledo was coaching the Bruins.
Hats off to UCLA. They got their win in. Don't expect USC to be surprised again in next year's match up.
IN PETE WE TRUST!!
OK...
What happened is very similar to whats been happening each week the USC football team has played,...
the Defensive coach has outcoached the opposing teams Offensive coach,...EXCEPT, this time the shoe was on the other foot!...
Pete has to admit it and move on...Don't you think maybe our offense is a bit to predictable? What was lame lane attempting to do?...any continuity? any game plan? 2nd half changes. Pete, look at our offense from a defensive coach review, ask lame lane the 'hard' questions...
BIG guys against smaller quick guys,..hummm what to do,..lame lane's answer go around them!!
,...the only question,..change coaches before or after the Rose Bowl?...
Fight On!
That's okay, Pete. We're all disappointed and to some extent embarrassed. I know I was, sitting amongst a bunch of UCLA fans. But just like you tell your players not to do more than they can do, the same should go for you and your staff. Four games in a row like that was one too many for the staff to game plan and get the team ready emotionally as well as physically. It would have been better if those four were interspersed among Stanford and another softer opponent. The three top BCS teams all played patsies before their big games.
Just hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself. Despite what you might read and hear, most of us are still behind you one hundred percent.
Let UCLA gloat! One victory every 7years isn’t that bad! They barely won by four points in our rebuilding year. Wait until next year – it’ll be another 66 to 19! We were caught overlooking the Bruins for the National Championship game.
I remember the disappointment of being #2 in the first BCS in 98 and losing ot Miami. I remember winning 8 in a row. I know both sides. I personally hope that starting next year, our game is for the conference title. And I think starting it next year realistically it can. We have a lot coming back, like every D starter but 1. I've been on both sides, I'm old enough. I'm sure you guys will represent well in the RB, although you can bet that Lamar Woodley is licking his chops. I hope Kiffin is up to that task.
DBMitch - bigger than it was? You needed to win to get in the title game. It was big. And it was big for UCLA, to get us back on track. I fully expect us to be right there with you next year, and so should you. Let's hope for it!
ReelBruin....Dream on. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. You are simply an unranked .500 team that happened to stumble upon the acorn last Sat. It'll probably end up giving you indigestion. Or if you let it go to your head...a migrane.
