Views On Perez
USC safety Taylor Mays on fellow freshman safety Antwine Perez transferring.
``He didn’t feel comfortable here,'' Mays said. ``He never felt comfortable since he was out here.''
Linebacker Brian Cushing, also from New Jersey, said Perez also felt homesick.
``I just think he wanted to get closer to home,'' Cushing said.

first east coast recruit to fall victim to the 'homesickness' syndrome: a. perez
nevertheless FO and good luck antwine. hope you find a program that will help you in both football and in life.
hopefully this doesn't hurt our chances with Marvin Austin whose citing homesickness as a reason not to come to SC.
Good luck, Antwine. FIGHT ON!!!
These guys need to realize though it takes a full year to get used to being away from home. After a full year if you don't like it then go, at least you gave it a real shot; sometimes I really think making a decision like this shouldn't be done after one semester.
I think that we need to keep in perspective that these are still teenagers here. Some just develop at a different pace than others, and going from the east coast to LA can be an adjustment for older adults as well.
Shame that a five-star recruit couldn't stick around.
This brings up once again why the NCAA should end the one year waiting period. It just didn't work out for Perez here.....why be a hard a-- and make him sit out a year? I understand this rule is supposed to prevent ongoing recruitment of an athlete once he/she has commited but it's still an unfair rule. Maybe the NCAA and the NFL should also have a one year waiting period for coaches who want to change jobs in the middle of their contracts?
remember, A-P was here in the spring so he's been here nearly a year, he's been injured as well if i recall
unless you've experienced it, homesickness never feels good
F-O-A-P and good luck in all your future endeavors
As a former East Coast kid coming to USC as an 18 y.o., L.A. was a freak show, but I kind of dugg it and I eventually settled in. A few friends from my freshman year never could "get" L.A. and transfered.
It still happens. An law school buddy moved here then moved back east in only 6 months because his wife hated L.A. Said it reminded her of a "foreign country."
Homesickness is one way of putting it, but you don't see that so much with the OOS West Coast recruits. Taylor Mays grew up 1300 miles away, and many of the Oregon and Washington players are from Southern California, and "homesickness" is not such an issue.
Some kids, especially kids from the Eastern Seaboard, will have trouble adjusting. There is a different mentailty on the East versus the West, and a few of the kids will not be able to adjust. I'm sure it's easier to deal with if you are logging significant P.T., but even then, the difference in mentality and outlook is just too much for some 18 y.o's to bridge.
To TrojanHorse:
Hey dude, you do realize Perez has been here for 12 months (aka 1 yr., do the math)??
He came here in the beginning of January this year for Spring classes.
He's been here a year. Stop being a WLP (whiny little puke).
Go learn how to write so that you won't be repudiated by Fantasy Football experts like myself!
LOL!
Maybe that's why Pete only recruits out of state for kids with the potential to be 1st round draft choices. These are the kids (like Jarrett & Mays) that log significant playing time early on. Being busy allays some of the homesickness. Sounds like a good strategy.
