Worlds Collide
USC was No. 2 in the Pac-10 in third-down conversions at 45.4 percent. UCLA's defense was No. 1 in the Pac-10 on opponents' third-down conversions, holding teams to 27.8 percent.
Who won that battle? USC was 6 for 17 on third down and 1 for 3 on fourth down.
``I'm disappointed, this has never happened,'' USC coach Pete Carroll said. ``John (David Booty) worked his tail off all day.''

What about the comments by some that USC "quit"?

Why does Carroll keep holding JD Booty's hand? He constantly defends this underachiever.
Coach its time for a QB change or at least a competition in Spring. Make JD Booty earn his spot next year instead of handing it to him and for the love of Trojan nation give Sanchez a chance!

Hey Tim, they did quit. I love USC football but they went into the game with the wrong mentality. With all the domination they have inflicted on UCLA in 7 years they thought we just need to show up and we will win. Its not the case anymore and they need to bear the attitude with UCLA of hey these are our rivals and we never lose to these guys.

Felipe
What is your love affair with Sanchez? I doubt very seriously that he could have done anything yesterday either with an OL that plain did not block all day.
QBs get way to much blame and credit.
And I certainly didn't see any quit in any of the Trojans. I saw frustration because they couldn't get the job done, but that isn't the same as quit.
I had a HS coach who always preached that it wasn't the best team that won the game, it was the team that wanted it more. UCLA just plain wanted this game more. That is not to say that USC didn't want it, UCLA just wanted it more because they probably needed it more.
While I am disappointed, I am not ready to throw everyone under a bus. Fact is, we were not as good as the media thought at the end of the season, just as we were not as bad as the fairweather fans thought we were in the middle of the season.
Now let's see UCLA win back to back when they come to our house next year.

Felipe,
Here you go again. Was Booty supposed to block for himself? You and other myopic Trojan fans need to stop making replacing Booty with Sanchez the panacea for all our problems. Changing quarterbacks will not change play calling.
And before you or any other nimrod make the argument, both Booty and Sanchez are the same size.

The O Line played about as poorly as I have ever seen. How many false start and holding penalties did they have to go with the untimely personal foul penalties. It looked like they had no idea that it might be "noisy" at the Rose Bowl. They may want to block someone if they plan on beating Michigan.

Thanks PH55 for mentioning the stats issue regarding Sanchez. Both Mark and JD are listed at 6'3", the former at 225 and the latter at 210 lbs. Neither will see over the opposition better than the other, period.
SC just got beat by a more motivated team whose defense proved to be more than Sarkiffen could overcome, and yet they came closer than they should have, given the turnovers, penalties, etc.
DeWayne proved to be the difference.

He has a point.
As a former player, I can tell you QB leadership matters. I don't think Booty has the fire to lead the team. I'm not askng for Palmer or Leinart type of passion, heck I would be happy with Marinovich type of passion/fire.
As you question Felipe, keep this in mind:
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...

Let's not put too much stock in the listed heights of players in the media guide - they are usually off.
However, I think release point for JDB is an issue. He does not come over the top in his throwing motion. This makes him effectively a couple inches shorter. Combined with 3-step drops, this can be problematic. It would seem that rolling him out more and perhaps using the shotgun would help him find better throwing lanes.
