Fighting The Irish?

USC coach Pete Carroll is scheduled to visit with Marvin Austin, the No. 1-ranked defensive tackle in the country, today. But we also hear Carroll might visit tight end Mike Ragone, who committed to Notre Dame almost nine months ago.

I have a question to ask someone who knows the recruiting game better than me. How much effort should Pete expend talking to a kid who has already committed to another school. Can or do they jump ship at the last minute?

Yeah Pete, do it!

And pick up Duval Kamara while you're at it.

Give FaT-BoY WeiSS a donut hole in his former stomping grounds.

Fight On!

How 'bout stealing some players from Florida to return the favor?

Trojan4Life,

You don't have to look any further than James Wilson's decommitment from USC to Florida a few days ago to get your answer.

While it's rare that kids decommit from schools in their neighbourhood to commit to schools that are further away it does happen and sometimes it's just a feel the coach may have about the kid that makes it worthwhile...

ha ha!! Give em hell Pete! Steal that kid from jabba the hut and the rest of the arrogant Notre Dame jerks!

They just lost Trattou to Florida, it might happen...the players know that program is going nowhere....

All is fine with Pete's efforts to go after kids that are committed to other programs or seem to be leaning in a certain direction that does not include USC at this time.

My concern is with all of this Bush fallout, how much is this going to hurt recruiting and what about the kids who have said they will come to USC but haven't signed yet? This can turn into a big mess very quickly if it hasn't already. Any more negative information that comes out on Bush over the next couple of weeks could be a death blow to the recruiting efforts of Pete and his staff. Let's hope this is not going to fester too much more.

Not to give you a heart attack, but none of the commits have signed yet because national signing day isn't until February.

tonycal is right. It irks the crap out of me that these "Yahoo"s seem to find the specifically important times to try to blackball SC's efforts, be it recruiting, preparations for the NFL draft, at the onset of championship games etc..I oft wonder who or whom is behind the specific reporting decisions seemingly everytime it's important to SC. Wouldn't it be interesting if the head of Yahoo sports happened to be a bruin or even worse, a domer? ...I do think that if a kid is on the recruiting bubble and he fears that probation could come into play, he might head in the other direction. This crap is all the more reason for the Trojans to have one big freakin "kickbutt, take no prisoners kind of season"

I heard an interview with one of the "reporters" from Yahoo!Sports that is the chief reporter on the Bush story and he's a Stanford grad.

Isn't it funny, I used to think it was only UCLA grads who had to depend on USC for jobs...now it's Stanford as well.
