New Kicker

Former Nebraska kicker Jordan Congdon met with USC coach Pete Carroll on Monday with the intention of walking on to the team next season and possibly earning a scholarship.
``He's deciding about transferring and giving us strong consideration,’’ Carroll said. ``He’s trying to get into school as a walk-on.’'

USC’s only current kicker is junior David Buehler following the death of Mario Danelo and academic ineligibility of Troy Van Blarcom. But Congdon would need to redshirt next season and have two years of eligibility remaining.
Congdon, who is from San Diego, was a first-team freshman All-American in 2005, when he made 19 of 23 field goals including a last-minute game-winning kick against Kansas State that clinched a bowl berth for the Cornhuskers.
But he was just five of seven last season and Nebraska coach Bill Callahan was criticized after the Cotton Bowl for not letting Congdon attempt a 47-yard field goal with the Huskers trailing Auburn 17-14 with 1:45 remaining. Callahan told reporters afterward the field goal was out of Congdon’s range.

Is that supposed be "Callahan told reporters...", or does our (possible) new dude have zero confidence?

So what does that mean? That Buehler is going to be doing kick offs and field goals this year? What if he gets hurt? Maybe they can bring Mike Rae back...

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
