Defensive end Jeff Schweiger, who transferred to San Jose State, was always more of an old-school type player. He wasn't interested in getting attention, didn't particularly enjoy the high profile USC enjoyed and preferred to be anonymous.
``I just like to play football,'' Schweiger once told me. ``I don't care about all the other stuff. I'm not interested in that.''

He's got anonymity now.

Don't be an ass, he'll probably be the best defensive lineman in the WAC when he is eligible to play.

Seriously. Best of luck to the dude! We got enough talent that we shouldn't hate when someone isn't happy and is looking for something else....

Well......

Jeff is/was a 5 star recruit on scout.com. Anytime we lose a 5 star guy for any reason, we did something wrong. 5 star players don't grow on trees. We also lost Whitney Lewis. I guess they bit that bullet when they decided to go to the 3-4. And honestly, the 3-4 didn't do all that much better than when we played the 4-3. Now we have Kyle Moore and Jeff Tola or someone at DE. And I guess Michael Reardon next year. Hmmm...I don't think Jeff ever got a fair shake at USC. When he didn't come in and produce 33 sacks a year he was moved to second string. He went and talked to PC about lack of PT and I guess the answer was "sucks to be you".

Yeah, good luck to him he's gotta do what's in his best interest.

Just a thought as we have also just lost 1 5 star OL commit to Florida and B.Green de-commited and is raving about Penn st...

Does anyone think Pete's comments regarding the Miami Dolphins position perhaps created insecurity with the new recruits? I know I was a little worried for a bit.

USC1966,

Easy on the 5 Stars. Maybe some of these guys want to go places where they know they are going to play right away. While I'm disappointed in losing Wilson, he is going to this years National Champions and he knows he can play right away. B. Green can start at Penn St. now, as opposed to having to compete with 7 tailbacks of similar talent, on of whom (Tyler) is just as good if not better and is in the same class. (And I hear he will be fine so don't bring up the injury.)

Schweiger didn't perform better than his competition, thus he did not play. And if he is so good, why is he only transferring to San Jose St? I would not trust the stars given by recruiting services. What is the big difference between a 4 and 5 anyway?

And as far as the "or someone" at DE next year, it will probably be Eversen Griffen. He may be the reason Schweiger left. He is going to be a great one.

1966,

Please do a little research before spouting about stuff you clearly know nothing about.

Schweiger didn't get benched because USC went to the 3-4 or because he wasn't producing. Schweiger was actually a fairly regular sub on the D-line in his freshman year at USC in 2004. However he got hurt before the spring practice of his second year (broken foot) and never was the same player that season.

Coming into this his third year he was healthier physically but then got sick, lost some weight. (The last thing I heard he weighed in around 235 - down from 255). By the time he put the weight back on he was back buried on the depth chart again and USC was well into the 2006 season.

Sometimes things just don't work out for different reasons and Schweiger just seemed to run into road block after road block after bad luck at USC. The problem when you are on teams like USC is that if you drop off for any reason at all you get buried in the depth chart very quickly. (Part of the reason I am concerned about Stafon J). There's just too much talent (just as highly ranked as you) waiting in the wings to take your job.

I wish him well at SJS. He's probably going to be the best guy there at any weight and should flourish. Sometimes things just don't go the way you planned and a new start is sometimes the best bet.

Fight on Jeff and good luck.

Some hints about TypeKey to help avoid multiple posts...(not trying to be an ass just hopefully helpful)

1. It takes a little while to post your message after you hit the post button. Just wait it out. Don't keep going back and hitting post over and over again.

2. After it finally loads and you are returned to the main screen sometimes you won't see your post right away. DO NOT RE-POST IT!! Just hit the refresh button on your browser and check again. It'll often show up after you refresh.

3. TypeKey sucks - we all know this but this isn't our blog so there's nothing we can really do about it is there...Hopefully this helps a bit.

So what if Schweiger was a 5-star recruit? He had a chance and couldn't cut it. Best for SC that he moves on frees up a scholarship. Being a 5-star recruit is a lot like being a $1 million yearling racehorse. Doesn't matter a damn if the nag can't run.

My humble two cents on typekey:
If you enter any page for the first time you need to sign-in. You will be directed to do so when try to post. Sign-in, write your post and then click POST, that should do it.
*Note:
If you are instructed to go directly to the typekey home web page to sign-in, do it and tell the page/Windows to remember your password. That way when you sign-in you don't have to go to the type home web page everytime.
Thnx
