Tall Order

The twin towers from Stoneridge Prep -- 6-10 Mamadou Diarra and 7-0 Boubacar Sylla -- attended the USC-Arizona State basketball game. Diarra said in June he would come to USC but still has not officially committed. Sylla also likes USC.
There is one problem, however. Even though they are close friends, they are not expected to attend the same school.

USC is crazy to get involved with any Stoneridge recruits. Floyd and Gib Arnold know full well that Stoneridge is a diploma mill and is under scrutiny by several entities including the NCAA and the feds. The school itself is small, but the basketball team is being run for a profit by Mike Mahoney,an investor from Manhattan Beach. The coach Boubacar Sy is syndicating foreign players like racing syndicators syndicate race horses. Every SC fan including Scott Wolf should read the expose on Stoneridge in the Washington Post last year. See: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/11/AR2006031101546.html and www.simivalleyacorn.com/news/2007/0112/Front_Page/004.html. Why Floyd and Gib Arnold would want to recruit any players from Stoneridge is beyond me given the risks associated with these purported "students" and the present posture of the SC BB program. SC can recruit top notch players from legit high school and legit preps. Going to diploma mills like Stoneridge is akin to swallowing broken glass. Why risk possible pro and loss of ships when there are legit blue chippers available, the team is on the up tick and the Galen Center and LA present attractive advantages and benetits to real students. Scott Wolf should question Sample, Garrett and Floyd on Stoneridge and on SC's intentions with its "players."

I have just quickly gone over those two links and the precedent is definitely there: [SCARY]. I encourage everybody to go over them and take your time reading. Please read them.

Scott Wolf

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
