Last Word?
USC coach Pete Carroll said Thursday he was not interested in the San Diego Chargers job despite speculation he could be a candidate.
Earlier this week, Carroll refused to comment about the Chargers job. But Carroll said Thursday that was not a sign he could be lured to San Diego.
``I just got tired of answering questions about the NFL, because there’s always a follow-up question from (the media), no matter what I say, so I decided I wouldn’t say anything,’’ Carroll said. ``I wasn’t looking at it. I like where I’m at. I’m not going anywhere.’’
Sources indicated there was communication between the Chargers and Carroll this week, but Carroll said he was never interested.

My hero.
Scott, is there any chance that PC will take the assistant coaching job that will be vacated by one of the 49'ers when one of those guys take the job in San Diego? A good follow up question don't you think, and another would be that if PC doesn't like San Diego maybe he would long to be back in the bay area since he went to UOP.
Oh, and one more thing to ask as your follow up question: Does PC plan to take any job in the NFL in the next 30,60, or 90 days? or after reading about the troubles in Arkansas does he have any desire to move Houston Nutttt out and build a strong SEC program since the SEC is the best per the SEC?

If a mini-Pete Carroll played God, it would be close... 28-10, Pete Carroll. Now if a mini-Pete also had a full-sized Matt Leinart, it would be a massacare, 77-0. My point here is that Scotty has missed the key link to taking the San Diego job. Pete would only do so to have 'control' over the player roster and the ability to trade for his star quarterback Matt Leinart. It might only take him 1 day to jump ship to SD....
Go ahead Scott, ask him about ML in SD and him as HC. Listen to what he says and then misreport the reply. When Pete says "no comment" you can misprint that "no [that isn't going to happen but if it did I might consider it] comment"
How about these bylines,
- Pete considers a leave from USC to run for President 2008?
- Pete considers a leave USC because they won't give him Mike Garrett's job as well?
- Pete considers a leave from USC because he wants to write books about the strategy of tennis.
Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!
Someone call Steve Fartman and let him know the good (well for him), bad news.
"Last word?" you say.
Definitely not if you're involved, Scott.
I'm sure you can continue to pester him for at least another couple weeks about it. I believe in you. Shoot, you probably could pull of pestering him about it long after the Chargers' position has already been filled. Yes, you're that good.
