Motives, Motives
A high-ranking UCLA official is convinced USC coach Pete Carroll spoke to the Miami Dolphins in an attempt to get a raise from the university.
Personally, I think Carroll was just intrigued by what the Dolphins wanted to say, because he didn't even inform USC before speaking to Miami.
"That's the best way to get a raise, to let it get out through the media," the UCLA official said.

note to high ranking UCLA official. DUH!
In similarly related news, a high-ranking USC official is convinced USC Coach Pete Carroll let UCLA win this year in an attempt to lock in Koach Karl for another three years as UCLA head coach.
"That's the best way to keep an incompetent coach across town...let him win a game here and there," the USC official said.
Duh is right. The only job that Carroll has any real interest in is the Chargers job. His son told me that a few months ago, and I don't see the Chargers looking for a new coach after a 14-2 season. It looks like PC is here to stay, unless the NCAA investigation produces any ugly results.
I still don't get why McKnight was telling everyone who would listened that Bush and Carroll were on a teleconference with him. He told his coach, said it during his announcement, and told some media outlets the same thing. I am just glad that Carroll asked if it was kosher to have former players call and recruit kids on the school's behalf. There are so many rules - who would have known that this was a violation? I'm glad Pete asked first.
Dawson - It's called embellishment. The kid knew that Pete talked to Reggie, and rather than saying that he heard it from Pete, he said he heard it from the horse's mouth - maybe to make him sound "important", or just to tell the story shorthand not knowing that it would be a technical violation had he actually talked to Reggie. Nonstory, really. And people - come on. Stop obsessing about P.C. Great coach, but he'll leave or retire one day. Enjoy him while he's here. National Title in the Sugar Bowl this year. The future will take care of itself. Let's be a little zen about this thing.
Scott,
Was this the same high ranking UCLA official that contacted Steve Mariucci before the USC v. UCLA Game(during the season while Dorrell was still coaching) to see if Mooch was interested in coaching UCLA?
UH OH, CHARGERS JUST FIRED SCHOTTENHEIMER...IS PC HEADING TO SD?
Oh, pattyo get over yourself. "OMG, Pete, Pete!" Relax, take a deep breath, dear.
Class of 2007, (how many of those classes came from trade tech, or is that just you’re football team that does that?) congratulations on going to USC. Maybe if you studied just a little bit harder, well, you know where I'm going with this. Maybe if your lucky you can do your post grad at the superior academic institution not far away...UCLA. At least you morons finally realized that we ARE BETTER THAN YOU. I'm sure I'll continue to hear a bunch of long winded "we're almost this" and "we could've this" and "I bet we'll this". Sounds a lot like a certain 13-9 game I remember not too long ago. Having a student body made up of mostly snobbish dead beats who had there father buy there way into college doesn’t impress me or anyone else. Better is better, learn to live with it. And I still welcome anyone’s attempt to refute the 330 academically ineligible players that were on your team from 1970-1980. Things never change in south central Los Angeles do they? Large coke, extra ice, and no mayo on that chicken sandwich you filthy trojan.....
Aw, JTK, you're funny. USC's SAT averages are higher, and our admit rate is lower. And I believe we're only 1 or 2 ranks behind UCLA in the newest U.S. News report. (Give it a year or two for us to surpass them.)
But you're right, stats from 2+ decades ago are more important.
We can't even compare SAT scores with UCLA because we calculate the scores differently. We take the highest individual scores from any test taken where as UCLA makes their admits use the highest combined scored from one sitting.
Does anyone else suspect that jtk is Scott Wolf's alter ego that he uses to provoke arguments on this message board by being as obnoxious as possible?
JTK,
You're = you + are
Your = belonging or associated with any person in general
Their = belonging or associated with any person of unspecified sex
There = in, at, or to that place or position
I'm extremely proud to be an alumnus of an inferior institution where we go in already knowing how to spell basic english.
By the way, you know, you're dragging out irrelavent issues here. You think John Wooden isn't guilty of padding some academic standings? We are going back to the 70's, right? Want to go further back? You've got what? One Heisman winner? How many seasons did he play in the NFL? About as many as Matty Leinart has played, right?
Or do you want more recent, since you sound like a retarded parrot saying "13-9 ... 13-9."
Here's two more interesting numbers for you. 44-27. Remember those? December 27th, 2006? You know, when the insignificant games are played?
And before you start accosting me and telling me that I'm this or I'm that, I paid my own way through SC but, you'll never know whether or not that's true because this is the internet and the only thing that we'll ever know about each other is what we gather from what each other posts. And your posts say that you're illiterate. Good luck at SMC, I wish you luck in matriculating.
JTK,
You idiot, remember Bill Don Jackson...well he was a prize DL recruit of Donohue that was later jailed for murder in Texas. When brought before the judge at sentencing, the judge could not believe that this man, who spent THREE YEARS at FUCLA, could only read at the level of a FOURTH GRADER. Some fine academic institution.
JTK,
Need we also remind you of one Darryl Henley, the supreme drug king. Where did he learn his skills? Oh yes, at FUCLA that fine academic institution in Westwood.
JTK, are you just going around copy-and-pasting the same thing that was written somewhere else? Get a freakin' life.
Better yet, get off the computer and finish cleaning the leaves off my pool. And get your '81 Corolla off my street. You're leaving rust all over the place.
Wait, let me translate for you bruin:
"JTK U R jus goin 'roun pastin sam thun wrote der? Get a freekn lif.
"Betr yut, git off c'puter n fnish clenin leefs off my pule. N git yer Corolla uf mey streat. Ur leafin rust all ver the plase."
JTK: You're such an imbecile that you couldn't even rebuke me in the right thread. Wow.
JTK,
Who are you kidding, you and 1/3 of your UCLA Graduating Class (assuming that you actually went to UCLA) had to attend a 2 year Community College like LA Trade Tech before you got accepted to UCLA.
And does UCLA count the SAT scores in its entrance stats for all of the Community College transfers at UCLA, or just the SAT scores for those that apply to UCLA straight from high school? Dawson, you might know the answer to that question since you are so well versed with the calculation of SAT scores.
And JTK, it is very amusing how you fail to acknowledge the skeletons in UCLA’s closet and just continue to cut and paste the same old, grammatically challenged Bruin post...must be a public school thing. Also, do you find it kind of embarrassing that you (an alleged Bruin Graduate) just lost a Blog argument to a far more articulate College Student...sorry a far more articulate USC Student?
FYI Trojan Haters - for future posts go to http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla/ where the rest of your kind congregate and discuss your envy for all things USC.
I have successfully hijacked your site trojan fans. Wow, that was easier than I thought. Is that a new record for posts?
non-responsive.
And no.
JTK strikes me as being a 100lb overweight, unemployed virgin sitting in a $200 a month apartment chewing tobacco and drinking cheap beer with his "UCLA #1!" shirt on and posting on USC sites all day and writting, "I hijacked your site haha!"
:o))
(In other words a typical UCLA fan)
Enough JTK, lets get back to relevant topics like USC Football.
So Steve Sarkissian turns down a head coaching position in the NFL to stay as an assistant at USC (positioning himself as a possible successor to Carroll), then Peter Carroll inks the No.2 recruiting class in the country for USC, and then less than a week after USC secures another stellar recruiting class, the San Diego Chargers (14-3) suddenly fire Coach Marty Schottenheimer after a great season.
The Chargers are a terrific young and talented team in warm and sunny Southern California, have an MVP Running Back in LT that may be even more dynamic than Reggie Bush, and are owned by Marty Spanos...the alleged leading financial donor to the University of the Pacific...the same University of Pacific where Carroll started out his coaching career.
I think Carroll will stay at USC, but if there was ever an opportunity to go to a great NFL Team with a chance to really succeed, this is it. On the bright side, Carroll has always said that he would want full control of a team, and the Chargers have a strong personality in GM AJ Smith, who clearly could not get along with Marty.
Carroll leaving USC is an unlikely scenario, but it is far more interesting to discuss than constantly critiquing JTK’s grammatically challenged posts.
Sorry El Cap, that would be "let's" not lets.
JTK sounds like a chick to me...
After doing some checking, I don't think UCLA allows freshmen JC transfers, and the rankings are based on the entering freshmen class, not the upper classmen. I might be wrong about this, but the only figure I found was that UCLA admitted 577 JC transers in 2004 - These were juniors, not freshmen. If UCLA does admit JC transfers at the freshman or sophomore levels, then the 577 figure would probably be higher. I don't know what percentage this is og a given class, but it might be as much as 10%
